Ashton United Methodist Church September 2012

While I was a Probationary Elder, I had a meeting with Probationary Leadership Development Group (PLDG) in the Northern Illinois Conference of the United Methodist Church. The meeting was help in the Bishop Lane Retreat Center in Rockford. It took me about one and a half hours. I decided to use a GPS to get there safely. Interestingly enough, the GPS showed me an unverified road. I was confused but decided to keep going and then figure it out as I went. But it was easy to find the place where I was going to stay, because of the outside sign. We have advanced technology, enough to get to our believe in the GPS which and where we are going. What You may say that it would be experiences, degrees from whom you associate and get Christians, we already have the navigation that guides us in the safe. The navigation of our life is Jesus Christ as our Lord. but sometimes that is not destination. But we directs us where we are is your GPS in your life? knowledge from your your schools, people with along, and so on. As right way and that keeps us

The nurture committee has been busy planning for Rally Day on September 9th. Sunday School will resume at 9am with a Scavenger Hunt focusing on different items and rooms within our Church. Sheri Voss will guide the youth through the hunt and at each station members of our congregation will help educate them on what each item or room means. Of course, a special treasure will be awarded at each station. Following the 10am worship service will be a pot-luck luncheon. Please bring a dish to pass and table service. Ham, hot dogs and drink will be provided. Hope everyone will attend. If you would like, come at 9am and watch the youth on their scavenger hunt. There is a need for Sunday School Teachers. If you are interested in helping full-time or part-time, please contact Sandi Stover.

Not meaning to rush the season but the holidays are fast approaching and we need to start thinking about the Youth Christmas Program. If you would like to chair the event, have any ideas about a program or help in any way, please contact Sandi Stover. The Nurture Committee would like to thank Amy Rockwood for chairing the VBS Program, and to all members who helped in any way. There has been a lot of positive feedback about the Veggie Tales Program. There was a great turnout and great participation. Thanks to all who supported with time, food, support and prayers.

THANK YOU

Thank you to all those who have helped keep the church yard and parking lot looking nice all summer long. Thank you to Ron Dean for trimming bushes, Mike Messer and Kevin Kurth for spraying weeds, Beth Hahn for mowing, Rich Russell and Connie Henert for miscellaneous flower/lawn care and anyone else who may have helped out that we are unaware of.

The parsonage roof will be replaced by Dave Meurer in September. Thank you to all who contributed toward the cost of this project. SEPTEMBER 2nd 9th 16th 23rd

In June, several ladies from the church went to Camp Reynoldwood for Ladies Outing. A wonderful meal was enjoyed by everyonewhich was served by the youth campers. Afterwards, we had a great time on a hayride which took s throughout the whole camp. Some of the ladies had never been to Camp Reynoldswood, and some that had, had never toured that much of the camp. It was such good fellowship for all. Our first meeting for this fall will be Monday, September 10th at 7pm. We invite you to come join us. Members of UMW: Ruth Moeller, Lynn Messer, Kathy Tilsy, Carolyn Wetzel, Karen Baylor, Donna Smith, Connie Henert.

If you haven't had time to check out the adult library lately, we invite you to do so. The new furniture is very nice. Just sit a while or look through the many books. You may find one you are interested in reading. The youth library is a fun place for the kids to check out a book or just sit and chat with each other. Thanks to Ruth Moeller for organizing both libraries.

Have you ever considered helping with worship on Sunday morning? We are always looking for liturgists, greeters and acolytes. If you would like to sign up, please do so in the fellowship hall. If you have questions concerning one of these ministry opportunities, please see Monetta, Pastor Han or contact the office. Youth ages 6th-12th grade are invited to attend a youth group event tentatively held at the Mills & Petrie. Join us Sun., Sept. 23rd from 4-5pm. Please contact the following with any questions:

The American Red Cross Blood drive will be September 11th at the Lions Center from 12:30-6:30pm. Anyone wishing to give, please see Cheryl Eich for an appointment.

The CROP Walk will be held on September 30th at the Presbyterian Church in Rochelle. Registration will be at 1:30 and step off at 2pm. The route is 5K, to the Rochelle UMC and back. I hope we will get walkers from our church again. We always have a good time and usually go out for a bit to eat afterward. Remember that 25% of the money we earn will go to three local agencies; Rochelle Christian Food Pantry, Ashton Food Pantry and this year the Rochelle summer lunch program. There will be more information on the CROP Walk when we get all our brochures. At 6pm on September 5th, the Rochelle UMC will have our recruiter rally for the CROP Walk where we hand out all the brochures to walkers. There will then be a Spaghetti Supper to earn more money for the walk. Tickets are $7 and can be purchased from Cheryl Eich. The youth put on the supper to earn money for the walk. Hope to see Ashton Methodist there.

We will be collecting cleaning supplies once again. There is a list of cleaning bucket s u p p l i e s a t www.midwestmissiondc.org. They also could use wheel chairs, walkers, canes and sewing machines. Praise to everyone that donated school supplies! If anyone is interested in sewing school bags, there is material available. CEDAR RAPIDS MISSION TRIP HAS BEEN CANCELED: It appears their recovery from the 2008 flooding is well on its way (answered prayersGod is so good) and the focus for the community is not one that the cluster feels is our calling. We will be looking at some other project(s) to do in the near future. PLEASE CONTINUE TO SAVE POP TABS: Kelly Graham from Chana UMC has volunteered to collect and deliver them. Drop your tabs off in the church kitchen. The Cluster would like to welcome Pastor Javier Martinez to Chana/Lighthouse UMC. Please have articles for the October Newsletter to me by September 19, 2012. Thank you to all of you have contributed to this months Heavenly News. Zach
