Land was purchased by Benjamin Walker in the 1830s from a man who had won it in the land lottery Walker farmed the land until 1887, when he sold it to the Gentlemen's Driving Club, known today as the Piedmont Driving Club

Land was then used for horse racing and as an exposition site
