The State Level One Malaysia Leadership Camp 2011 was held at the Gunung Rapat Sports School in Ipoh, on Saturday and Sunday the 25 June to 26 June 2011. The camp was held on a weekend and thus did not disturb the normal routine of the students. With the permission of participating school principals, the participants of the camp were given a day off from school on Monday, for them to rest and recuperate after the camp. The camp was organised by the Ministry of Education with collaboration from the Ministry of Sports and Youth. The main aim of the camp was to instill good moral values among students. It was also aimed to create national integrity, patriotism and good work ethics. The camp was attended by 120 students selected from school all over the state. The participants were nominated by their schools and had to undergo a written examination before being selected to attend the camp. Upon arriving, participants had to register at the various counters set up at the school. Then, everyone was ushered to the main hall for the grand opening ceremony. The camp was officiated by our Education Minister, ______________________________________________. In his speech, the Education Minister advised all participants to take home the good experience the camp will offer them. After the opening ceremony, the participants were given a short briefing by the officer-in-charge, ___________________________. Participants were briefed on the regulations of the camp and later, divided into 10 different working groups in which they will continue to be in for the two days. On the first day, the activities held included interactive classroom sessions on effective time management, understanding Malaysian cultures, good leadership qualities and effective communication. There was also an intergroup telematch on the first day. Apart from that, a debate and a public speaking competition were held on the second day. All the participants were encouraged to join the activities conducted. The closing ceremony was on Sunday, where awards were presented to outstanding participants of the camp. In my opinion, the camp was a great success. It was well organised and the security in the camp was good. The trainers always ensured that the participants were punctual and late comers were punished immediately. There were also standby medical teams around the clock in case of some emergency. The Education Ministry should organise these camps on a more regular basis so that more students will have a chance to participate, and thus learn skills on leadership that will be useful for a bright future.
