Route Determination In Sales Order Explain the basic concept of route process in Sales Order.

By: Kevin Route is determined automatically in the sales order based on: 1. Departure zone or country of the delivering plant. 2. Destination zone or country of the Ship to Party. 3. Shipping condition from the customer master. 4. Transportation group from the material master. 5. Weight Group. In Address of General data. Enter the Transportation Zone id. and save You will get the route. The system takes into account the following 4 conditions for determining the Rou te a. The country and the Departure Zone of the shipping point + b. Shipping Conditions agreed in the sales document type or with the sold to par ty + c. Transportation Group assigned to the material + d. The country & Transportation Zone of the ship to party (in CMR) Route can be manually overwritten during a sales order processing. You can re-de termine the route in the outbound delivery based on weight (weight group) provid ed it is allowed in the configuration of the delivery type. Scheduling takes into account the following times a. Transit Time + b. Loading Time + c. Pick/Pack Time + d. Transportation Lead/Planning Time. The loading time and pick/pack time come from the shipping point whereas the tra nsit time and transportation lead time come from the route. The system performs backward scheduling first to confirm the required quantity c hecking the material availability on the material availability date. If the mate rial availability date or the transportation planning date falls before the orde

r date, the system automatically carries out forward scheduling and will propose a future date. A delivery type can be customized to carry out rescheduling if r equired during the delivery processing. Route Determination The route determines the means of transport and the legs involved. It influences transportation scheduling. For example, the system can determine from the route that goods are to be sent by rail to Boston. Therefore, during transportation s cheduling, it takes into account how far in advance loading space in the freight car must be reserved. Criteria for Route Proposal in the Sales Order A route can be determined for every order item. Determining the route in the sal es order depends on the following factors: Country and departure zone of the shipping point Shipping condition from the sales order For example, it might have been agreed with the customer that the goods are to b e delivered as soon as possible. Transportation group from the material master record (Sales/Plant Data screen) You can use the transportation group to group together goods with the same chara cteristics (for example, bulky goods or goods that must be transported in refrig erated trucks). Country and transportation zone of the ship-to party (Control screen in the cust omer master record) If the ship-to party is changed in the sales order, the route is determined agai n for each item. Using the delivery type, you can control in Customizing whether the transportati on scheduling is to be executed once again after a route change has taken place. The following figure shows how the route is determined in the sales order accord ing to the data listed above. Criteria for the Proposal of the Route in the Delivery The shipping document type determines whether the route is determined again in t he delivery. Since you only learn the exact weight of the delivery at the time o f creating the delivery, it makes sense to determine the route again. For exampl e, an overdelivery of goods could mean that the delivery is now too heavy to be delivered by air freight and must be conveyed by rail. It could also be that sev eral partial deliveries are created for one sales order so that the total weight of the each delivery is now lower than the total weight that is recorded in the sales order. Thus, a smaller truck than originally planned can be used for the delivery. For this reason, a weight group is used as an additional factor in determining t he route. The weight group is determined on the basis of the total weight of the delivery. You can manually overtype the route that is determined by the system in the delivery. Unlike the sales order where a route can be defined for each order item, the rou te applies to all items in the delivery. The following figure shows all factors that the system takes into account when i t determines the route in the delivery. Consistency Check Once a new route has been determined in the delivery, the system can check wheth er the route determined in the order item and the route found for the delivery a re consistent. In the Customizing application, you can define a consistency chec k for each shipping document type.
