Polygons For Kids

Polygons For Kids A polygon is traditionally a plane figure that is bounded by a closed path, composed of a finite sequence of straight line segments (i.e., by a closed polygonal chain). These segments are called its edges or sides, and the points where two edges meet are the polygon's vertices (singular: vertex) or corners. An n-gon is a polygon with n sides. The interior of the polygon is sometimes called its body. A polygon is a 2-dimensional example of the more general polytope in any number of dimensions. The basic geometrical notion has been adapted in various ways to suit particular purposes. Mathematicians are often concerned only with the closed polygonal chain and with simple polygons which do not self-intersect, and may define a polygon accordingly. Geometrically two edges meeting at a corner are required to form an angle that is not straight (180); otherwise, the line segments will be considered parts of a single edge however mathematically, such corners may sometimes be allowed.

A Right Triangle can be defined as a triangle which contains one Right Angle that is 900 angle in it. All three sides of a right angle triangle are specifically defined and have different names. It consists of three sides that are termed as base, hypotenuse and perpendicular. Hypotenuse is the side of triangle which is just opposite to right angle and it is the longest side in triangle. Second side of triangle that is perpendicular is the shortest side of triangle and it is one of the sides due to Intersection of which a right angle is formed. Second side resulting in right angle is known as base of triangle and this side is longer than perpendicular but shorter than hypotenuse. Pythagoras theorem can be applied to calculate length of sides. According to pythagoras theorem square of hypotenuse is equals to addition of Square of perpendicular and square of base. That is it is represented as follows:H2 = P2+B2. Where H is the hypotenuse of triangle, P is the perpendicular and B is the base. These three parameters play a vital role in trigonometric ratios and for determining the trigonometric values. As on these parameters only different Trigonometric Functions depends. Basically, right triangle formula includes just only the above expression in it. This formula is used when two sides of the triangle are given and we need to find the third side of triangle.

It may be like perpendicular and base is given and we need to find the hypotenuse of triangle. Or it may be like base and hypotenuse is given and we need to find the perpendicular. Or like perpendicular and hypotenuse is given and base is to be determined. Thus a right triangle formula basically consists of three parameters or sides which are to be determined and considered.
