LIQUID CARGO HANDLING TRAINING CRUDe OIL AND pRODUCT TeRmINAL

LCHS: Crude Oil and Product Terminal

FeaTureS
Video Control The use of external CCTV (Closed Circuit Television) video monitoring creates a new training concept for control systems with limited personnel. Using simulated CCTV controls reflecting out the window views of the operational area, a heightened sense of realism is imparted to the trainee, similar to the modern video monitoring capabilities available to modern tanker cargo operators. This innovative solution is the first of its kind to be used within cargo simulations and sets Transas apart from others using a walkthrough. The video control incorporated into the Transas system provides the trainee with flexible monitoring capabilities unmatched by other solutions. Improved Graphic Interface Transas cargo simulators are designed for the education of operators who perhaps have little engineering background, as well as for more sophisticated and experienced personnel. The LCHS 4000 3D graphical interface clearly shows system flows and the internal operating processes of onboard cargo equipment. Elegant system layout screens allow multiple views to be displayed on dual monitors, presenting trainees with an enhanced overview of their systems on a minimal number of screens. System flow graphics are easily disabled for training more experienced operators used to the presentation of only standard instruments normally available onboard. Full system drawing of the cargo system screen The logical layout of the simulation screens provides the trainee with continuity between views. Pipelines are consistent between screens and the use of hotkeys reduces the amount of time the user must spend learning the system. 3D animated schematics also serve to reduce the amount of familiarisation necessary to progress to actual training exercises, and provide a highly effective medium for system level training.

Cargo handling operations personnel training The LCHS 4000 crude oil terminal simulator is intended for the thorough training of terminal personnel in efficient and safe cargo handling and use of auxiliary equipment. The simulator conducts technological oil transfer operations and replicates tanker loading principles. The interaction of terminal operators and tanker cargo mates is also simulated. The training is conducted in accordance with the requirements of MARPOL 73/78. For more efficient training, the multi-purpose oil/product 700,000 m3 terminal, capable of processing VLCC and LCC tankers, was chosen as the prototype. Its possibilities not only cover the complete terminal technological cycle, but also could be expanded using the real tanker loading/ unloading exercises.

PurPOSe
The purpose of training is to qualify expert terminal operators, load masters and storage area personnel. The key goal of education is training and learning the supervisory cargo master skills. As a result, specialists are capable of: Memorising all the operations that occur in the complex pipe net of terminal systems Reacting adequately to technological and weather changes, taking the systems technical capabilities into consideration Terminal capacity distribution Evaluating the possible consequences of personnel operations, as well as changes in the technological operation chain.

Transas has embraced the concept of complete integration across its line of simulation products. To this end, the Transas LHCS 4000 Oil system can currently be integrated between the oil vessel models, FPSO model and the oil terminal simulation for joint exercises. Exercises can be carried out simultaneously between both terminal and tanker crew operators in many different configurations, depending on the training objectives. The Transas LCHS 4000 Oil system has also been integrated with the highly successful and useful tool of PISCES II for oil spill response co-ordination simulation. This integrated education tool, the Transas global accident and post accident marine training simulator, was specifically designed for the unique needs of tanker, terminal and response vessel training. Complete resource management is possible, training teams comprise of tanker navigational staff, tug operators and cargo system operators from both the tankers and terminal. This provides the utmost realism during sophisticated team training exercises.
