Cargo handling operations personnel training The LCHS 4000 crude oil terminal simulator is intended for the thorough training of terminal personnel in efficient and safe cargo handling and use of auxiliary equipment. The simulator conducts technological oil transfer operations and replicates tanker loading principles. The interaction of terminal operators and tanker cargo mates is also simulated. The training is conducted in accordance with the requirements of MARPOL 73/78. For more efficient training, the multi-purpose oil/product 700,000 m3 terminal, capable of processing VLCC and LCC tankers, was chosen as the prototype. Its possibilities not only cover the complete terminal technological cycle, but also could be expanded using the real tanker loading/ unloading exercises.

The purpose of training is to qualify expert terminal operators, load masters and storage area personnel. The key goal of education is training and learning the supervisory cargo master skills. As a result, specialists are capable of: Memorising all the operations that occur in the complex pipe net of terminal systems Reacting adequately to technological and weather changes, taking the systems technical capabilities into consideration Terminal capacity distribution Evaluating the possible consequences of personnel operations, as well as changes in the technological operation chain.

Transas has embraced the concept of complete integration across its line of simulation products. To this end, the Transas LHCS 4000 Oil system can currently be integrated between the oil vessel models, FPSO model and the oil terminal simulation for joint exercises. Exercises can be carried out simultaneously between both terminal and tanker crew operators in many different configurations, depending on the training objectives. The Transas LCHS 4000 Oil system has also been integrated with the highly successful and useful tool of PISCES II for oil spill response co-ordination simulation. This integrated education tool, the Transas global accident and post accident marine training simulator, was specifically designed for the unique needs of tanker, terminal and response vessel training. Complete resource management is possible, training teams comprise of tanker navigational staff, tug operators and cargo system operators from both the tankers and terminal. This provides the utmost realism during sophisticated team training exercises.
