Unit 2 ELECTRONIC CONFIGUARATION AND PERIODIC PROPERTIES (15 Hrs) Paulis exclusion principle- Hunds rule Aufbau principles (n+1) rule stability of half and fully filled orbitals classification of elements as s,p,d and f block elements , variation of atomic volume , atomic and ionic radii, ionization potential ,electron affinity, electronegativity along periods and groups variation of metallic characters- factors influencing the periodic properties. Unit 3 PRINCIPLES OF INORGANIC QUALITATIVE AND VOLUMETRIC ANALYSIS (15Hrs) Solubility product- common ion effect concepts & their application in cation analysis - principle of elimination of interfering anions- complexation reactions in qualitative analysis Reactions of cations and anions in the analysis spot test reagents aluminon cupferon DMG - thiourea Magneson, alizarin and Nesslers reagent. Volumetric analysis molarity, normality, molality and mole fraction primary and secondary standards- Theories of acid- base- redox complexometric, iodometric and iodimetric titrations calculation of equivalent weights theories of acid base- redoxadsorption-metal ion indicators and choice of indicators.

Nomenclature of organic compounds containing upto 10 carbon atomsmonofunctional compounds Bifunctional compounds, mono cyclic and acyclic compounds. Unit 5 BASIC CONCEPTS OF ORGANIC CHEMISTRY II (15 Hrs) Chemsitry of alkanes and cycloalkanes petroleum source of alkanes Methods of preparing alkanes cycloalkanes chemical properties mechanism of free radical substitution in alkanes halogenation uses. Conformational study of ethane and n-butaneSawhorse and Newmann projections relative stability of cyclo alkanes from cyclopropane upto cyclohexane Bayers strain theory limitations cyclohexane and various forms of cyclo hexanes. Unit 2 CHEMISTRY OF S-BLOCK ELEMENTS (15 Hrs) General characteristics of group IA and II A- diagonal relationship- Extraction, properties and uses of Li, Na, K, Be, Mg and Ca. Preparation, properties and uses of NaOH, Na2CO3 KOH, KBr, KI, MgCO3, MgSO4, MgCl2, & Magnesium ammonium phosphate. Position of hydrogen. Unit 3 CHEMISTRY OF ALKENES, ALKYNES AND DIENES (15 Hrs) General methods of preparation and properties of Alkenes and alkyneselectrophillic and radical addition mechanisms-addition reactions with H2, X2 , HX, HOX, H2SO4, H2O, hydroboration, Ozonolysis and peroxide effect. Hydroxylation of alkenes with KMnO4-allylic substitution of alkenes by NBS - acidity of alkynes and formation of acetylides test for alkenes and alkynes. Dienes types stability preparation of 1,3 butadiene, isoprene and chloroprenereactivity 1, 2 and 1, 4 additions in conjugated dienes, Diels Alder reaction. Types of polymerization Mechanisms of ionic and free radical addition polymerization.
