ABOUT JAIPUR Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan State, is popularly known as THE PINK CITY of India. The city is surrounded by Aravali hills. It has many forts and crenellated walls and numerous other monuments, which have been interest from time immemorial. Jaipur derives its name from Sawai Jai Singh II, King, soldier and astronomer who built the city in 1727. The city was laid down in rectangular fashion with a grid system encircled by a fortified wall according to the principles of town planning laid down in the "Shilpa Shastra", the ancient Hindu treatise on architecture. The result was an impeccably planned city at time when a few planned cities existed, even in Europe. Jaipur is well connected with other parts of State and the rest of India by air, rail and road. AIR- Indian airlines and other private airlines connects Jaipur to Delhi, Bombay Aurangabad, Jodhpur and Udaipur. Sanganer airport is 5 km. Away from the institute. RAIL- Jaipur is directly connected with Delhi, Bombay, Howrah, Chandigarh, Agra, Ahmadabad, Aurangabad, Jammu, Hyderabad, Indore Lucknow and all important cities of Rajasthan. ROAD- Rajasthan State Roadways Transport Corporation operates regular buses from allimportant cities of Rajasthan and other cities of neighbouring States and at a distance of 250 kms. from Delhi, the capital of India. ABOUT MALAVIYA NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY The Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT), Jaipur is one of the centre of Excellence in the country established by the MHRD, Government of India. The Institute formerly known as Malaviya Regional Engineering College was established in the year 1962, as a joint venture of the Government of India and Government of Rajasthan. In 1963, the college started functioning from its temporary campus at Pilani and admitted 30 students each in Electrical Engg. and Mechanical Engg. The college moved to the present campus to Jaipur in 1965. The college was inspired by the great educationist and freedom fighter Pt. Madan Mohan Malaviya and thus named as The Malaviya Regional Engineering College. MNIT campus spreads over 325 acres of lush green area in the central location of Jaipur city. At present the institute offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses (M.Tech. /M.B.A. /M.Sc. & Ph.D.) to about 5000 students, in almost all leading fields of engineering, technology, architecture, management and sciences. Through the internationally renowned faculty, laboratories with state of art equipments and excellent infrastructure, the institute is actively engaged in research, consultancy and developmental activities, besides imparting regular teaching. The institute is celebrating its Golden Jubilee st st during year 1 Sept. 2012 - 31 August 2013.
