Junior Kennel Club of Gauteng

The Junior Kennel Club of Gauteng is an All Breeds and Working Disciplines club that is affiliated with the Kennel Union of Southern Africa. We were founded in 2007 and host two premier events annually, an Open show and a Championship show of which next year shall be our fifth. We are a team of 8 committee members coming from the various disciplines within dogdom, ranging from 14 years old and upwards. Of our office bearers, we have a 19 year old Chairman and a 22 year old Secretary.

Scientific studies have proven that positive interaction between man and dog releases endorphins that lower stress levels and help to speed up recovery
It is this wonderful relationship, which has existed for centuries between man and dog that we as a club wish to promote. By assisting in the development of this bond we hope to instil a sense of responsibility and humility in a generation, which is dominated by technology; our long-term objective is to promote the future well-being of mans best friend and the various sports offered by the dog fraternity.

Who We Are
The South African dog scene through the years has become stale in many respects, the various Clubs in the country are established and set in their ways, their only offering to members is an annual Open and Championship show. Unfortunately due to the lack of interest, clubs are not capitalizing on new talent. This is where the Junior Kennel Club steps in. There is a large community of South Africans who own dogs. One of our objectives has always been to target this community and expose them to the various disciplines available; resulting in new exhibitors and spectators who will rejuvenate the sport.

Achieving Our Goals

With Dreams, Determination and the right Partner, we can achieve anything
We believe in challenging conventional wisdom and overturning assumptions and prejudices that get in the way of imagining new possibilities and visionary ideas.

With this and a sponsor that will become our Partner through the journey; we are certain to achieve our objectives and continue to develop, together; as a highly respected competitor within dogdom.

A brand is the sum of all its actions. Who it is, What it does, What the world expects of itIf the brand is passionate, honest and committed, innovative and, at the same time inspirational, if the brand is true to its history, its passion and true to itself, the world will love that brand. Lee Clow

By looking at and identifying current conventions - limiting definitions, both real or percieved, that people or organisations often unknowingly adhere to: aspects of communications, consumers, the marketplace and the entity itself. that have always been done that way. We are able to ask, why things are that way and in turn are able to overturn conventional thinking to benefit the club.

Conventions we seek to overturn in all that we do: only breeders show their dogs the sport is seen as an old persons sport there are very few young people encouraged to join clubs nor do clubs promote the youth to get involved in dogdom only a small percentage of peope remain in the sport the standard of the exhibitors handling and presentation is low no one is willing to teach you how to show your dog no one is willing to teach you how to groom your dog clubs are not helpful nor exhibitor friendly fewer clubs can afford international judges therefore the number of entries are dropping. there are no real incentives for the big winners, no great reward for your accomplishments handling classes are not viewed as important

Goals
The Junior Kennel Club product offerings are educational, friendly and operational solutions to the current and future needs of dogdom. Open Show
Open Shows are a training environment used to prepare committee members, dogs and exhibitors alike for the Championship Shows.

Though many open shows lack enthusiasm and vibe; we have put life into our October/November Annual Open Show, dubbing it the Howlaween Special. We are the first club to host a Halloween show with special classes such as the fancy dress and gazebo decoration competition.

We provide a wonderful opportunity for learner judges to qualify; while bringing the whole family together for a spooktacular day in the sun with their furry friends.

Championship Show South Africa is in need of a Premier show with the status equivalent to a Westminster or Crufts, unfortunately our full weekend shows have lost their lustre and high entries; they have merely become just another show. This year we hosted our 4th Annual Championship Show where we had three international judges and aim to one day offer a full panel of judges from overseas.

Despite being a stand-alone show we are proud to boast amongst the largest numbers in the country, with our entries for the last three years as below:

School Days We will be focusing on going to various schools and educating children and young adults about the various disciplines within dogdom. It will also develop responsible dog ownership, promote safety & animal health and demonstrate activities children and their dogs can specifically participate in, such as agility, obedience and junior handling. Digital Presence As we as a society are quickly moving towards a completely digital world; the Junior Kennel Club maintains a digital presence with exhibitors, dog owners and the like via our Facebook account which has proven to be a brilliant marketing tool. Along with friendly discussions about the sport and sharing photographs of events; we use this tool to advertise our upcoming events and promote our sponsors to our greatest advantage.

Advertising We strive to set ourselves apart from other clubs in all ways, one respect that is far too often overlooked is advertising. For all events we have beautifully designed adverts targetted at exhibitors and seperately the public.

Handler & Judges Training As part of promoting and bettering the sport we host training programs for both exhibitors and judges. Our focus is on improving the standard of competitors and presentation. South Africans lack these skills and it is obvious in the presentation of both handlers and their exhibits at shows, irrespective of the discipline.

Why Royal Canin?

The Junior Kennel Club requires a sponsor, a partner to help grow these ideas, starting from prizes, dressing our premier events with branded media; various brand promotions at our events and joining us for school days and other educational opportunities we hope to provide.

The Junior Kennel Club decided to approach Royal Canin as we believe we share the same ethos, where our only focus of innovation, is dog first. Your moral code of Knowledge and Respect are two of the most important ideas that we believe need to be pushed within the dog world and society in South Africa as a whole. Royal Canin is a premier and classy brand with whcih we would be honoured to be associated with.

Fortes Fortuna Adiuvat

Fortune Favours the Bold. We understand the challenges a sponsor has, especially justifying a return on investment but in exchange we would be honoured to endorse Royal Canin as our sponsor/partner and will do our best to gain as much exposure for the brand. We hope to have the opportunity to stand boldly together with Royal Canin as a brand of professionalism, pride, compassion and a shared love for mans best friend, while hosting a premier event for all dog lovers alike.
