Manufacturing process

1. Converter section 2. Formic Acid Distillation Section 3. Formic Acid & Rectification section 4. Formulation Section

Converter section:This section, consists of the format storage & the format & handling system, two converters intermediate vessels for collecting the slurry & feed system. Small calculated quantities of sodium format are fed into the converters containing Formic Acid of previous cycles. Sulphuric acid is then fed into the converters through an elaborate system of meters & valves. Cooling brine from the refrigeration plant circulates in the jackets of the converters to remove the exothermic heat involved in the reaction to prevent the Formic acid decomposing into CO & H2O.Here again skilful operation is required for controlling the reaction & to produce a homogeneous slurry of Formic acid & sodium sulphate. converter section also operates in batches & the slurry is discharched into the intermediate tanks below.

Distillation section

This section, consists of the slurry Feeding system, The Distillation Drum, Dust collector, condensers, Absorption column and the Sulphate & Formic Acid colle

The highly viscous & dance slurry is pumped into the Distillation Drum which is heated by steam. The whole is heated by steam. The whole distillation system including the collecting tanks works under vacuum. The formic acid fumes from the Distillation system Drum after passing through the dust collector, the condensers & the Absorption column condense into liquid powder falls into special removable truck with in the sulphate tank. Sodium sulphate up to 98 99% Na2 so4 purity can be produced.

Rectification Section
Formic Acid from the distillation section is rectified by azotropic distillation into two fractions of 85% and 95% Formic Acid. Azeotropic distillation operates on the principles of diffrencial pressure : the top produce from the column on condensation acid ,the bottom produce ,low concentration acid.

Formulation Section
a) Actiform : Actiform is a new formulation developed by the company solely used for natural rubber latex coagulation. It consists of Formic Acid, antioxidant, coagulation activators and paranitrophenol to give antifugal, anti crack etc. to the rubber sheet. b) Periyarphen : It is a premium formulation of Formic Acid with 12.5% of paranitrophenol, which is added to in hit fungal attack, cracks, brown spot & stickness of rubber sheet.

Packaging : -

The Formic Acid is packed in 1/2kg,1kg,2 kg,5 kg,12 kgs,25 kgs and 35 kgs net high density polythene carboys. The sodium sulphate is packed in polylined HDPE woven sacks of 50 kgs net weight .Formic Acid is supplied in stainless steel tankers to industrial consumers.
