The purpose of this Reference Guide is to provide schools with a list of online course codes that will become obsolete and the new online course codes and titles that will replace them at the beginning of the 2012-13 school year. Online courses have been categorized by vendor and schools must use the course code that corresponds to the online vendor that they are using. This is a new Reference Guide.

MAJOR CHANGES:

BACKGROUND: Previously, schools offering online courses have used course codes with the designation of Los Angeles Virtual Academy (LAVA) or University of California College Preparatory (UCCP) to denote the fact that it was an online class. If a LAVA or UCCP course title was not available, then schools would default to using the traditional LAUSD course code. In recent years, LAUSD, in addition to its own online courses, has added several vendors to its available online options creating the need to be able to distinguish between them. These online courses are equivalent to the traditional LAUSD classroom based courses and meet the same high school graduation requirements. They have also been approved by the University of California Office of the President (UCOP) as transcript abbreviations for the equivalent courses used for face-to-face instruction exclusively. PROCEDURES: Beginning with the 2012-13 school year, secondary schools are not to use the obsolete online course codes in the Secondary SIS system. Schools are to use the new online course codes for the appropriate online content provider (see table below and Attachment B) for the 2012-13 school year and beyond. Refer to Attachment A for obsolete online course codes, and Attachment B for new online course codes and titles.

Online Vendor APEX Learning Virtual School (ALVS)

SIS Abbreviation OLAA

Description A-G and other high school courses delivered online by a credentialed APEX teacher and facilitated by an LAUSD teacher, providing scheduling options for Advanced Placement and credit acceleration. A-G and other high school courses where the schools credentialed teachers deliver APEX content online, with or without faceto-face instruction, for credit recovery or credit acceleration. A-G and other high school courses where the schools credentialed teachers deliver E2020 content online, with or without faceto-face instruction, for credit recovery or credit acceleration. A-G world language courses, delivered online by a credentialed PowerSpeak teacher and facilitated by an LAUSD teacher, providing scheduling options for Advanced Placement and credit acceleration. Intended for schools that do not have a world language teacher. A-G courses, developed by UC, where the schools credentialed teachers deliver UCCP (aka NROC) content online, with or without face-to-face instruction, for credit recovery or credit acceleration.
