Albensi Laboratories expands business and shrinks costs with Objet 3D Printing-based digital dentistry workow
Background
Albensi Laboratories, a leading dental laboratory located near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has long recognized the value that advanced technologies can bring to its patients and business. As CAD/CAM design technology became widely available, Albensi Laboratories was quick to explore the potential for producing dental parts straight from CAD design imagery. Dental restorations produced with software design have become more common in recent years. Most dental companies have access to CAD/CAM procedures, either in the dental practice, the dental laboratory or in the form of production centers. Like many companies, Albensi Laboratories was already beneting from using CAD/CAM to generate dental restorations. Among the benets: access to new, almost defect-free, industrially prefabricated and controlled materials; higher quality and reproducibility; data storage suitable for a standardized chain of production; improved precision and planning; and greater efciency.

Challenges
Automate dental model production Speed up throughput without compromising high standards and without expanding technician staff and facilities

Solution
Objet Eden350V 3D Printing System with high resolution and ne detail output

Results
A complete digital workow for in-house fabrication of all dental models Fast business growth, with a more varied offering Optimized resource allocation and signicantly shorter design time Fast, full return on investment through business growth, faster throughput and lower operational costs

The Challenge
Recently, as the price of dental laboratory work has become a major factor in treatment planning and therapy, Albensi Laboratories management realized that further automation could enable more cost-effective production of individual dental models. To stay competitive, we needed to streamline our business, said Don Albensi, President/Owner of Albensi Laboratories. We had to nd a way to speed up our throughput without compromising our high quality standards or expanding our technician staff or facilities.

We concluded that integrating 3D printing into our workow could reduce our costs and open new opportunities for growth, while still meeting all our quality and operational requirements.
