Nobles, My many thanks to all who helped make the 2012 Oleika Shrine Circus a success. Every year, Oleika Shriners from our region put in the hard work for the kids. Its not easy. It starts with setting the dates the year previous, booking the venues then selling ads for the circus book. Its a long strenuous process. Shriners and their families shine in these moments by dedicating many days and nights to the effort. I am humbled by your work ethic. I thank you all. On September 9th, please come and represent the Temple at the Red Mile Racetrack. Wear your Fez and be proud! On October 6th & 7th, the temple will be hosting a gun show. Please spread the word and come out to help. We need bodies to help set up and to work the show. On October 20th, the Oriental Band is hosting a Battle of the Bands in the Ballroom. Sounds rockin! On October 27th, The Oleika Engineers are hosting the Car, Truck & Bike Show at the Temple. Come by and support the engineers! This summer has been a great experience for Lady Mary and I. We hope to see lots of shriners and their families walking the halls of our temple this fall.

Nobles, Last year, the first annual Oleika Shrine Rodeo came to being. The 2 day event raised money for our temple, clearing the path for this years rodeo. Any event of this magnitude requires monies to make sure the event is a success. With the effort of many last year, we pulled it off. This year, I need Nobles and their families to do the same. We hit a home run last November, we need a grand slam this November. As of September 1st, we need Shriners to raise their batting average and sell some Ads and Banners. I have sales booklets I can give you to pitch would-be sponsors. Our goal is to reach our expense number and be in the black before the event even happens. This Rodeo will be even better than last year. Hop on and take a ride with us! We had a good turnout for the SESA convention in New Orleans, LA. Thanks to the Potentates staff for all the food & drinks. The rain nally stopped so the parade could go forward. SESA will be September 19th - 22nd in Myrtle Beach, SC. Oleika will be #2 in line for the parade. Hope to see you all for a great time. We have a Gun Show on October 6th & 7th. Come see the show and help out if you can. Ceremonial is on November 10th. Please submit petitions ASAP. A big thanks to all of those who worked the long hours at the circus in Mount Sterling, Barbourville, Hazard and Prestonsburg. We had a special group of of young men and ladies from the Junior ROTC program from Allen Central High School. They helped all day and night. Without them, it would have been ALOT harder. Please refer to your calendar book for upcoming parades. We need great turnouts! Our First Lady Mary Hall plans on having a Christmas Party for the hospital children this year. She can use your help with toys, donations and setup. The Oleika Rodeo will be November 16th & 17th at the Horse Park. Our Oriental Guide, John Bourne is in charge. Lets help him sell Ads and Banners to make it an even better rodeo this year! Old Farmers Advice

Your fences need to be horse-high, pig-tight and bull-strong. Keep skunks and bankers at a distance. Life is simpler when you plow around the stump. A bumble bee is considerably faster than a John Deere tractor. Words that soak into your ears are whispered...not yelled. Meanness dont just happen overnight. Do not corner something that you know is meaner than you. It dont take a very big person to carry a grudge. You cannot unsay a cruel word. Every path has a few puddles. When you wallow with pigs, expect to get dirty. The best sermons are lived, not preached. Most of the stuff people worry about, aint never gonna happen anyway. Dont judge folks by their relatives. Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer. Live a good and honorable life, then when you get older and think back, youll enjoy it a second time. Dont interfere with somethin that aint bothering you none. Timing has a lot to do with the outcome of a rain dance. If you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop diggin. Sometimes you get, and sometimes you get got. The biggest troublemaker youll probably ever have to deal with, watches you from the mirror every mornin. Always drink upstream from the herd. Good judgment comes from experience, and a lotta that comes from bad judgment. Lettin the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier than puttin it back in. If you get to thinkin youre a person of some influence, try orderin somebody elses dog around. Live simply, love generously, care deeply, speak kindly. Dont pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, hell just kill you.
