Master of Architecture Programme (Full-time)

1.

a)

Coursework Requirement (Applicable to students admitted in 2009/10 and thereafter)

Students are required to complete a minimum of 52 units of courses for graduation.

(i)

Required courses: First Year of Attendance: ARCH5110, 5120 (Note 1) ARCH5310, 5410, 5420, 6310 Second Year of Attendance: ARCH5510, 6111, 6121 19 units 24 units

(ii)

Elective courses (Notes 2-5): Any three architectural elective courses from: ARCH5201, 5301, 5401, 5501, 5601, 5701, 5801, 5901, ARCH6303, 6304, 6701, 6702

9 units

Total: 52 units

Notes: 1. Students are required to take ARCH5110 during the first term and ARCH5120 during the second term of their first year of attendance. 2. Some of the electives will be offered in the summer term for students who have completed their first year of attendance. 3. Students are allowed to take these courses more than once provided that the course contents are different, and gain the units each time they pass the course. However, students cannot take courses with the same course code more than once in a single term. 4. The eight elective courses can be offered as research-oriented courses, with its course code ended with "00" instead of "01" e.g. ARCH5200, 5300, 5400 etc. Students are not allowed to take more than one research-oriented elective course during their course of study. 5. In addition to the requirements of the studio, required and elective courses for the fulfillment of the degree of Master of Architecture, a student can opt to take three elective courses offered in one concentration and a concentration studio in order to qualify for the award of a certificate in that concentration. b) Coursework Requirement (Applicable to students admitted in 2008/09 and before)

Students are required to complete a minimum of 57 units of courses for graduation.

(i)

Required courses: First Year of Attendance: ARCH5310, 5410, 5420, 6310 ARCH5111, 5121, 5131, 5141 (Note1) Second Year of Attendance: ARCH5510, 6111, 6121 19 units 24 units

(ii) (a)

Elective courses: Architectural elective courses (8-11 units) from:

(Notes 2 and 3) ARCH4201, 4301, 4302, 4303, 4304, 4401, 4402, 4403, 5000, 5401, 5501 (b) Non-Architectural elective courses (3-6 units) Total: 57 units

Notes: 1. Students are required to pass any two studios in their first year of attendance and they can select one from four in each term. 2. Students are allowed to take these elective courses except ARCH5000 more than once provided that the course contents are different, and gain the units each time they pass the course. However, students cannot take courses with the same course codes more than once in a single term. 3. Students are required to take ARCH5000 in their first year of attendance.

Other Requirements

IT Proficiency Test. (Please refer to Student IT Competence.) Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0. A student who obtains a cumulative grade point average (GPA) below 2.0 in the preceding term or receives a failure grade in thesis monitoring courses (for Research Postgraduate Programmes) will be put on academic probation.
