Pray not for Things, but for Wisdom

(Lifes Little Instruction Book) Have you ever asked God for wisdom? Wisdom which encompasses guidance for lifes journey? Wisdom which provides insightful knowledge to make astute decisions? Its not an unreasonable request to seek wisdom and I believe the Lord desires for us to be impacted with as much perception, insight, intelligence and every noun available in the English language that pertains to this word, so how does one go about finding this attribute? Turning to Proverbs, King Solomon writes; The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline. We have to start with a healthy dose of fearing the Lord; knowing that ultimately He has written the guidelines within which we must live in order to attain the fullest life possible this side of heaven. But there are others who question Gods wisdom and discipline; therefore, they entice believers to follow their human, carnal natures and do whatever is pleasing in their own eyes. Bad idea, according to King Solomon as he continues to write in Chapter 1 of Proverbs, Wisdom calls aloud in the street, she raises her voice in the public squares; at the head of the noisy streets she cries out, in the gateways of the city she makes her speech: How long will you simple ones love your simple ways? How long will mockers delight in mockery and fools hate knowledge? If you had responded to my rebuke, I would have poured out my heart to you and made my thoughts known to you.

First step in attaining wisdom; fear God and shun evil. Once the believer is in tune with
the Lord, discernment is given that will make it possible for the voice of wisdom to be heard and Gods decisions will be made known. The rest of chapter 1 is imperative for believers to read since it outlines what will happen to the mockers of this world that disbelieve God and are trying their best to bring down others. When wisdom calls out to these nonbelievers and is ignored, calamity and complacency will destroy them. And that is a mild description. But the benefits continue for those who follow after wisdom; My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding, and if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.

For the Lord gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. He holds victory in store for the upright, he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless, for he guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones. Then you will understand what is right and just and fairevery good path. For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul. Discretion will protect you, and understanding will guard you. Wisdom will save you from the ways of wicked men, from men whose words are perverse, who leave the straight paths to walk in dark ways, who delight in doing wrong and rejoice in the perverseness of evil, whose paths are crooked and who are devious in their ways. All we will ever need is Jesus and He provides the rest. So fear the Lord, shun evil and follow Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. The benefits of that decision include receiving wisdom, knowledge and the discretion to know right from wrong, good from evil and possessing abundant life evermore. Hallelujah !

Thank you, Lord, for the Bible and the blessings outlined that are poured upon a believer as we give our lives fully to you. May we be worthy of the wisdom you give. Amen.
