Dear Professor Franklin, Im writing to you to explain my expectations for your class, Writing 1-HONR. You said you wanted to get to know each of your students better. I hope this letter provides you with a little insight into not only my goals in this class, but a little bit of my character as well. My primary goal in this class is to become a better writer and learn how to articulate myself more clearly through my writing. Better writing was part of the academic mission statement at my high school, so it was incorporated into the lesson plan in almost every class. I think I have definitely improved since I entered high school, but I could definitely get better. Its like you said in class, writing is something that you just have to keep practicing, like a sport, and it builds on itself as you learn more and get better. I hope this class helps me to keep building. I also hope that this class helps me to enjoy writing a little more because in high school, writing assignments or tests were always a grating experience. I used to like writing, so hopefully this class makes it something I like to do and not just something I have to do. I think this class will help me more than I will help it, so my contribution wont be very big. But I can contribute my opinions and experiences particularly my experiences growing up in Illinois as opposed to Missouri, like most of my classmates. I think if anyone has learned anything about me over the course of this class then I can count that as a contribution. So far in this class we have received a little bit of variety in our writing assignments, and I hope that continues. One of things that made writing awful in high school was the repetition of the assignments. While I hope to contribute to the class, I hope to do so not within an oral presentation or speech. I dont mind sharing what I write, but giving a lengthy, official presentation is not something I am good at. Talking in front large groups makes me nervous sometimes. I did, however like how facilitated socializing with the class, and tried to get us to know each other better. None of my other professors really tried to do that and as a result I still dont know the names of most the people in those classes. I look forward to getting to know the people in the class a little bit more, because I like the impersonal atmosphere this class has had so far. Hopefully this letter has been helpful to you in understanding more about me and what I hope to gain from this class. Actually, I think this letter has even helped me to better understand my own goals, hopes, and needs from this class.

Sincerely,
