2012 Heirloom Seed Catalog

Dear Friends,

November 2011

Welcome to the 2012 Annies Heirloom Seeds Vegetable and Flower catalog! First of all, I cant tell you enough how much we appreciate the opportunity to do what we love. We are astounded at the number of people out there that love heirlooms as much as we do. It is truly a joy to meet so many interesting and passionate people. One thing that I find really fun is hunting down new varieties that people have requested. I think were pretty well versed in heirlooms, but Im still surprised at how many interesting and new (to us!) things people like to grow. Weve done our best to respond to your requests with many new items this year, like scarlet runner beans, loofas, potatoes, and orange watermelons, just to name a few. Also new this year is flowers. Our farm and garden is organic, and were constantly looking for new and better ways to keep the bugs at bay. Youve probably heard of companion planting, but did you know that companion planting with flowers can be even more effective than companion planting with vegetables? The right flowers can repel harmful insects, attract beneficial insects, and make your garden more beautiful all at the same time. Check out our companion flower collection if youd like to try it out. Speaking of collections, they were so popular last year that weve created several new ones. In addition to the Master Italian Garden, we now have Master French and Master Mexican as well. Check out the Northern and Southern American Homestead Gardens as well, both are great ways to feed your whole family a great collection of vegetables year round. There are many other items on the website that wouldnt fit in the catalog. Seed banks for long-term seed storage, books, seed starting equipment, as well as bulk and wholesale pricing on seeds. If there is something you are looking for and cant find, please dont hesitate to contact us. Wed love to hear from you! I remember something that Joel Salatin wrote years ago that has stuck in my head ever since. He said that grass-based agriculture is harvesting an infinitely renewable resource, sunlight, and turning it into food. Gardening is the same thing, creating beauty and sustenance out of nothing but a tiny seed, soil, water, earth, and light. When you think about it, it is truly an awesome thing to behold. We simply guide this process along, taking joy in every step from planting to harvest. Thanks so much for reading, and best of luck in your gardening adventures!
