PCYC Jib Sheet

Commodore, Todd Bickley

With the start of autumn comes the last month of the boating season, although with the low water, some boats have already left the marina for drier grounds. The power fleet had its last scheduled cruise out to Put-in-Bay last month and September ended with the 66th annual Snow Flurries Regatta. Lets hope that the weather allows some final excursions to Kelleys Island and Put-in-Bay this month. The pool has closed, and once again I would like to thank the co-chairpersons: Cory and Renee Stine, Eric and Diane Zeitzheim and Martha and Duane Snyder for successfully completing another pool season. The job is more than just the summer swimming season and it can be thankless at times! Thank you also to Eric for his work in keeping the pool within the regulations established by the Health Department. If anyone has ideas for the next pool season, please pass them on to the cochairpersons for consideration. Over the last two months, the club grounds were host to two weddings, one on the Wolfe property and the other on the North Shore Beach. The weather for both was perfect and the setting offered by the Club grounds was ideal. Please contact Facilities Manager PC Chuck Reichman for club rental information. Consider attending the October 2 Membership Meeting as the nominating committee will present the 2013 slate of officers. Election will follow at the annual meeting, which is scheduled for Thursday, November 1. VC John will also be reviewing next years budget and a list of potential projects at the annual meeting. Both meetings begin at 8:00 P.M. and the Social Committee will be providing food after the annual meeting. The Fall Work Party is scheduled for Sunday, October 21. The work begins around 8-9 in the morning and ends at noon with a free lunch. If your schedule is free, please plan on attending and helping out even if it is for an hour or two. It is the work of many and not the work of one that keeps the grounds and the facilities looking nice. For those who chair or co-chair social events, please contact Facilities Manager PC Chuck Reichman if you have any questions or are in need of supplies. PC Reichman will work with you to make sure your event is successful. Port Clinton Yacht Club

PCYC Jib Sheet

The Rear Perspective, Michael Hablitzel

Just what you all have been waiting for! I am really pushing the deadline on this jib sheet and in about 24 hours I am going to be a Guardian for my Dad on "Honor Flight" to Washington, D.C. Consequently, this needs to be short so I can get some sleep. It is October so be prepared for high winds, water fluctuations, nice Indian Summer weather or nasty cold spells. The big event for this month is the Fall Work Party on Sunday, October 21. All members are welcome to help put the Clubhouse, pool, and grounds away for the winter. As a child that was the day I got to go to the PCYC and help my Dad prepare the club for winter and have a hot dog and chile for lunch. If it was nice we would go out fishing in the afternoon before moving the boat out of the dock so the riser committee could pull the dock risers later in the month. Boaters should be prepared to have any utility supply lines, docking gear, and accessories removed by the Fall Work Party or when the dock is vacated for the winter. Water to the docks will be shut off November 1st or earlier if the weather necessitates. Secure items or remove them from the dock area for the winter. Remember we continue to mow grass and remove leaves until the snow flies which can be late in December. One activity that goes unnoticed is the work of the riser committee on a weekend to be determined after the Fall Work Party. It is a very organized procedure. The Caretaker has all the risers numbered, batteries charged for the drills, grass and leaves mowed and removed where the risers will be stored, and all necessary equipment ready to go. Then the "oiler" sprays the nuts on the bolts, the "driller" removers the nuts, the "pullers" strain to pull the heavy water logged risers out of the mud and onto the shore. They are removed in a specific order and stacked in a very specific location under Steve and Todd's watchful eyes. This allows for the easy replacement of the risers next Spring, protection of the grass, and continued leaf removal in December. The job also requires necessary libation breaks to prevent dehydration. This is a highly trained crew and auditions are required in order to be a participant on the crew. Thank you Todd, Steve, and crew.

Fleet Captain of Power

As I look back on the just completed Cruise Out Season which will be completed prior to you receiving the October Jib Sheet, I believe we had another rewarding season. From April to September, including participation in the Walleye Festival Boat Parade over Memorial Day Weekend and another invitation to Rattlesnake Island in August, this season turned out well. Now is the time to think about the 2013 Cruise Out Season. Please offer your ideas to the soon to be named new Fleet Captain of Power as in the not too distant future both yacht clubs and marinas will be closing for the season. Again, I have thoroughly enjoyed serving as your Fleet Captain of Power for the past two years and look forward to a smooth transition. In the meantime, enjoy your club. FCoP, Dave Mehl

Fleet Captain of Sail

With a successful Jr. Sailing season behind us, I will now concentrate on our Auxiliary boats and big kid sailors. We had a very good turnout for our Sunday club series with the majority of boats participating in our PCYC Regattas. I would like to recognize our PCYC race boats that dare venture onto the waters with me and share our results. Luigi Ann, C&C 27 Rudy and Clara Draka Trident, Catalina 30 Tim Larcey Coqui, Pearson 30 Ramon Eickert Scoop, S2 John Schaffner Huggy Bare, Hunter 34 Mike Robinette Thin Ice, Jeanneau 36 Mark Sprenger Immrama, Seidleman 38 Terry Noonan Sally Jo, Tartan 38 Rob Kyle Jeb III, Beneteau 40.7 Park McRitchie Commodores Cup August 25, 2012 The Commodores cup was very competitive and we had an incredibly aggressive and tight start as the photo shows..or was that the finish? We had very light to non-existent winds. Tim Larcey (Trident) came up with a terrific idea of rafting our boats together in the middle of the Lake where we continually raised our drinks and toasted all the commodores past and present. The Commodores cup will be held in conjunction with the Catawba Can Sunset Race (Friday, Sept. 14th) in order to determine a winner. Green Island - September 2, 2009 We had wonderful weather for the 44 boats participating in the Green Island Race. Congratulations go to Jeb III, PC- Park McRitchie. 1st place Phrf A, 2nd Overall Green Island Trophy (Inter club results) 1st Jeb, PC-Park McRitchie 2nd Scoop, VC-John Schaffner 3rd Coqui, Ramon Eickert Green Island Regatta Special thanks to PRO- PC Doug Young, Scorer-Kathy Clark and all the support staff, committee boats, safety/mark boats and PCYC members in making this one of the premier racing events on Lake Erie.
