Class Procedures
Board Work When you enter the classroom, you will have your assignment book available to write homework. There will be a science question (the Do Now) to answer in your notebook every day at the beginning of class. Write the date, topic, and question. In Science Lessons, you will also need to write the date and topic in your Science Lab Journal Table of Contents. Bathroom, Water In the 7th and 8th grades, we will use the bathroom sign-out form. Absences If you are absent, it is your responsibility to make up missing assignments. This means that you will turn in homework that was due on the day of the absence on the day you return. For homework assigned while you were away, you will have two days to make up your assignments.

Tests

The Chicago Academy Room 206 Mr. Newman

Tests are a major part of your science grade. When tests are returned, you have the opportunity to retake them. In order to retake a test, you must complete a sheet of corrections to be admitted into the testing session. The higher of the two scores is entered into the computer for your grade.

Science Lab
Hands-on science activities are an important part of Middle School Science. 6 th through 8th grade classes use the Science Lab downstairs on different days each week, depending on topics of study. On Lab days, students will line up outside Room 206. Teachers walk students to the Science Lab. Safety Contract Students attending the Science Lab will have a signed safety contract. We will review the contract later this week. Also, when lab days are announced, students will dress appropriately. Science Fair Students in the 7th and 8th grade are required to complete a Science Fair project, including a Review of the Literature (research paper). Classroom presentations will take place beginning the week of November 12 (the week before Thanksgiving vacation). From the class presentations, representatives from each class will be selected to participate in the School Science Fair on December 4, 2012
