The Industrial Economics Program (IEP) of the University of Asia and the Pacific (UA&P) is the only economics program of its kind in the country, with a unique focus on the analysis of industries and business. It equips students with the ability to analyze trends in the business and economic environment and to draw out the implications for strategic decision making. The IEP is the most direct route to knowledge-based professions requiring a blend of mathematical expertise and a thorough understanding of how the economy and business work. It is the Universitys original academic program, having started over 40 years ago with its predecessor, the Center for Research and Communication (CRC). It has produced some of the countrys leading investment analysts and corporate planning managers. back to top ^ Business-Economics Alliance In the fifth year, IEP students spend a semester working in the field with corporations in the private and public sectors. This internship begins in the summer prior to the fifth year and gives students a chance to apply the tools they learn in the classroom to actual business and economic problems. During the internship, students work for most of the week in their host organizations and return to UA&P on Fridays and Saturdays for their coursework. Top corporations like Citibank, San Miguel Corp., Pilipinas Shell, HSBC, Unilever, among others, have participated in this alliance to mold the IEP students into future business leaders. back to top ^ Requirements for Admission The MS in Industrial Economics Program admits students from the College of Arts and Sciences in UA&P as well as bachelor degree holders of other universities. To qualify for the graduate program, the student must obtain a general weighted average (GWA) of 1.8 at the end of the 4th year and pass the required practicum program.

The Political Economy Program of the University of Asia and the Pacific (UA&P) is the only program of its kind in the country today. The program offers a specialization in International Relations and Development. This makes Political Economy training more relevant in todays globalized world. The program is patterned after the Politics, Philosophy and Economics (PPE) course of Oxford University. Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering

The BS in Industrial Engineering Program of the University of the Asia and the Pacific (UA&P) is a 5-year program envisioned to produce engineering professionals who can plan, design, and implement ethical, socially relevant and environmentally sound engineering and technology-based solutions to complex economic, management, and industrial problems. Using an in-depth education in the liberal arts as the students intellectual foundation, the BSIE Program combines UA&Ps current expertise in economics, management and information technology with competent instruction in the theoretical and applied sciences and mathematics and the core engineering courses. The BSIE Program hopes to produce true Renaissance Engineers of the new millennium.

The Curriculum Essential to the achievement of the program objectives is the solid liberal arts curriculum that has been a hallmark of the University. The Mathematics and Science components are augmented and delivered with the rigor required to prepare the student for an engineering course. The engineering core courses include education and training in computer science and information management and technology, organization theory, mathematical modeling, optimization, probability, statistics, finance and production management. he Applied Business Economics Program (ABEP) is designed for company staff who assist top executives in corporate planning and research and for line people who would like to build strong theoretical foundations in planning. These include corporate analysts and middle-level managers who have such responsibilities and objectives. The programs aims to provide the participants with an awareness of and sensitivity to the issues and problems confronting the nation, and with opportunities to apply economic research techniques and develop analytical and problem solving skills, especially those necessary to understand and evaluate the economic environment. The ABEP, which is under the School of Economics, allows the participant to relate current economic conditions and issues to business operations at the firm level using UA&P's wealth of local and international research data. Since the participants are gainfully employed, the program applies to their industry and institutional needs.

Program Contents and Activities The program, which runs for two years, consists of 36 academic units. The first one-and-a-half years are primarily devoted to seminars and workshops. It features lectures, research presentations, and class discussions. The last semester of the second year covers thesis writing and defense. The program begins in July. The courses are given in eight modules that have two subjects each. Each subject runs once a week for ten weeks.
