Performing Arts

Performing arts are those form of arts in which an artist uses his own body, face and presence as a medium, rather than making some kind of physical art object as in other forms of art. Performance arts include: Dance, drama, opera and circus act. Artists who participate in performing arts in front of an audience are called performers, including actors, comedians, dancers, musicians, and singers. Performers either perform in front of a live audience in case of Opera, live concerts and circus acts or performances are recorded in studios which are later viewed by millions of viewers. Such is the case of Movies, televised dramas/serials. Performing arts is always been a prevalent form of arts, as in it audiences are entertained by a series of gestures. While in other cases like painting or sculpting ones admiration is limited to a study of the object. Performing arts have always been the main source of entertainment throughout time. The earliest recorded theatrical event dates back to 2000 BC with the passion plays of Ancient Egypt. This story of the god Osiris was performed annually at festivals throughout the civilization, marking the known beginning of a long relationship between theatre and religion. In the Greek period theatre was again mostly related to religion. The most popular forms of theater in the medieval Islamic world were puppet theatre which included hand puppets and shadow plays . In the Elizabethan period music, dance and elaborate costumes as well as professional theatrical companies gained popularity. William Shakespeare's plays in the in this period developed a new class of professional performance. Opera also gained wide popularity in the 17th century. The performing arts in the modern age have gained a great deal of popularity, with the invention of motion pictures in the 19th century. Motion picture industry grew largely in post world war period. Time During the great depression, United States audience witnessed birth of some of the greatest silent motion pictures. The invention of television and the creation of computers have radically increased the popularity of performing arts. Today it is not hard for a talented artist to gain popularity, as means of attaining it are limitless. Internet has become a means of spreading the performance of artistic, and crushed the geographic boundaries. People having talent in singing, dancing and acting post their videos on websites like YouTube and gain instant popularity. Shakespeare to Terintino, writers and artists has entertained our world. The act of presentation might change, but what matters is the creativity and talent of an artist.
