Anger is a negative emotion, but to feel a right anger and to the right degree and to the right person is a righteous action, Aristotle the Master of Metaphor, states. So we the Muslims, have a right to be rightly angry at the deliberate and malicious attempts of mocking the finest human being in the history of humanity. Such reprehensible acts cause immense pain to any right thinking person and not just to a Muslim. The sophistries attached to the misnomer called free speech will continue to be hurled at us, like before. The great game of double standards and worst hypocrisy played to the hilt by the West and its media will go on unabated. This is never going to stop. We must understand. As suggested by Aristotle expressing our right anger in the right way is vital in our fight against these deliberate provocations of maligning the Last Messenger, peace be upon him. Making violent protests is like playing right into the hands of our arch enemies, just as amusing a protest it is to ask, the followers of Muhammad (S.A.W.), to send him a gift of reciting Durood Shareef 5000 times a day! This conundrum of what is the right action to do in such a critical situation can be solved to an extent by our peaceful protests, and complete and strict boycotts of the goods produced by the very countries which promote such reprehensible acts, in the name of freedom. Hurt them where it hurts the most! The language of economics is after all the best language, to speak in, in this particular scenario. But what would definitely help may be coming together of all the Muslim countries and press for, forming a law against such crimes [be it a film, cartoons or essays or fiction], at the international level, on the lines of the law against anti-Semitism. Alas, the Western rhetoric of free speech sounds so hollow and empty, when it comes to this! This law should be made and be seen to be implemented strictly. If we cant do this much, then well, Allama Iqbal is always there to remind us, Kee Muhommad se wafaa tu ne toh hum tere hain Yeh jahan cheez hai kya lauh o qalam tere hain Rights are natural and must be guaranteed but my right for expression should not stomp upon your right to hold sacred what you think is right. The West should not expect the rest of us to be following in their footsteps where and as they demand. Recently one of my learned friends put it like this to his British colleague, Just because you dump your mothers in old age homes and feel proud of parading your wives semi naked, doesnt mean that we should be doing the same! The hour has approached for the West to realize that it is civilized an act to appreciate and respect the differences this humanity shares among itself, while still being in perfect harmony with each other and together. The hour is also for us the Muslims to be re presenting the noble teachings of Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him, through our characters, through our practices. Lets spread the word - the word of Islam, the word of peace as given to us by the one Messenger who was sent for the whole of humanity. A Muslim organization in London protested by way of gifting translations of the holy Quran and books of Seerah to people around them. A marvelous way of doing the work which my Prophet (S.A.W.) did for nearly 23 years, regardless of what came his way! The West till now has heard only our voice, now lets make them hear our word. August 16th 2012. WHY??? We always tend to think that wise, smart and intelligent people are those who have money and are RICH. But wisdom, intelligence and cognizance are mostly found in poor or people who are not RICH. It's only the will of ALLAH, who gives money to whom He wills irrespective of a person being wise or foolish. So those who brag about their fortunes should be thankful to ALLAH and acknowledge those who are lesser privileged than them. IMAGE:

August 18th 2012. Tonight 2 of us and a Revert brother went to a Masjid with completely Air-conditioned ambiance (not an issue). Every attendee of that Masjid comes in branded car to attend lectures only in English (sounds good!!). People there speak only English and rarely converse in their mother tongue. (MashaAllah sounds more good). But when the Revert brother saw all that especially the part where attendees are only RICH section of society, he did not spare a single minute there and told us that he wanted to go to a place where he can really recall ALLAH, rather a place where his Nafs (self) gets effected. I applauded his piety and introspected myself. SubhanAllah!! In 1916, in Vienna, Austria, presented the king with his wife which, as the queen was - was entirely covered only by the fact that it is the queen and not have to be looked by any man. But this practice was originally started by Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him) 1400 years ago on ALLAH's command to protect the

But if someone does good for this Ummah, those past-time commentpassers cannot stomach it and still point fingers at them calling the contributions to be of 'no use'. This clearly shows the ignorance and narrow-minded attitude. They talk about Unity in Ummah, but still they cannot even appreciate contributions of others.

Reaction against the movie

Is it only against the movie?
By Dr JavedJamil (doctorforu123@yahoo.com)
The whole world has been witnessing an intense debate on the violent protests in the Muslim World against America on the issue of the film against Prophet Muhammad. The US administrations immediate reaction was total condemnation of the attack on American embassy and the death of Americans; as always it threatened to bring the culprits to justice. Justice in American terminology almost always means violent reprisals hugely disproportionate to the original act, which can lead to widespread destructions, changes of regimes and massive loss of human life. In recent days however, there have been more sober voices and the US administration seems to have realized the anger of Muslims. There have been efforts to totally dissociate from the movie, total rejection of the motives behind the movie and attempt of nabbing the persons involved in the production of the movie. However, still, the main focus is on the nature of the Muslim reaction and an attempt to paint it as totally unjustified. All the rightly minded Muslims have appealed for peace and spoken against the violence. But at the same time, they have been challenging the kind of interpretations of freedom of speech that are being promoted by the Western media. They have been able to highlight the fact that when it comes to Western interests, freedom of speech is conveniently forgotten. Denying holocaust is a serious punishable crime in most of the Western countries and critics of West and America find hard to get visa for even academic visits. The purpose of this writing however is not to discuss the concept of freedom of speech. What I want to point out is that in the midst of the whole debate, what is being missed is that the Muslim anger is not just limited to the anger against the film. There is a clear indication that this anger is directed against America and its policies towards Muslims. The film has only provided them an opportunity to vent their anger, which was boiling in their minds for years. It can be easily seen that the protests have been more widespread in the countries that have been the victims of American intervention in one way or the other in recent past. Libya took the lead where NATO used military power to change the regime. In Egypt, America did everything to influence the events and tried to contain the emergence of Islamic groups. The same is true of Tunisia. In Yemen, too, America has been playing an active role, which is perceived negatively by the masses. And of course, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq remain the worst victims of American designs of hegemony. Lebanon and Iran are two other countries where anti-American sentiments are on the higher side. These are exactly the countries where the protests have been most widespread, vocal and often violent.India, with a population of around 20 millions, has remained peaceful. Bangladesh and Indonesia, the other two most populous countries, have witnessed protests but in terms of intensity they were nowhere near the Arab countries andPakistan. Turkey, Malaysia, Saudi Arab, Kuwait all these countries have remained largely peaceful. The message is clear. The West led by the US has to revise its policy towards Islam and Muslim countries. America must learn to respect Islamic ideology, Islamic concepts, Muslim lives and the sovereignty and independence of Muslim countries. Before telling Muslims not to react violently, it has to examine its own record. When West reacts in response to 9/11 declaring within minutes that it was handiwork of Muslims, never bothering even to conduct an independent conclusive inquiry, not responding to then Afghan government's demand to show the proof, then turning a whole country to ruins, then attacking another country, killing in all more than 2 million people to take revenge for 3000 people, this reaction is justified by the international institutions. If Muslims react angrily to an insult against their Prophet, they become worst criminals. This is high time the debate focused not on Muslim begaviour but on Americas behaviour. There should be an international debate on the behaviour of West in general and America in particular towards all international issues with particular focus on their behaviour towards Islam and Muslims. If West has to leave peacefully and let others live peacefully, they have to let this debate take place without bias. West needs to reexamines its whole approach and must learn to behave sensible with the Muslim world. Muslims can no longer be threatened with force, invasions and changes of regimes. They must be allowed to choose their own course of action. Muslims on their part must learn to play a more aggressive role in the international affairs, and through peaceful ways.

In previous issues we have discussed Hisab and Mizan (Deeds Reckoning and its Weighing). The next stage is visiting of the nation of the prophet (pbuh) to Houd-eKauther (River / Pond /Lake / Fountain in Paradise). The successful nation will then visit to this river which was given to the last prophet (pbuh) as blessing. Its water is intensely white more than milk, more delightful than honey, its rim is like stars abundantly illuminating the sky; whoever drinks from it one time will never be thirsty again for all eternity. But be careful a group of the successful nation will be stopped here from drinking of this river. Who is he? Who is such unfortunate? Who is such foolish? He is Bidti (Innovator). Hazrat Ibn Masoud says Follow (Sunnah of the prophet) and dont innovate as Sunnah is enough for you. The Prophet (pbuh) said, "I am your predecessor at the Kauthar and some men amongst you will be brought to me, and when I will try to hand them some water, they will be pulled away from me by force whereupon I will say, 'O Lord, my companions!' Then the Almighty will say, 'You do not know what they did after you left, they introduced new things into the religion after you (Bukhari at the authority of Abdullah) Sahl bin Sa'd: said: I heard the Prophet saying, "I am your predecessor at the Kauthar, and whoever will come to it, will drink from it, and whoever will drink from it, will never become thirsty after that. There will come to me some people whom I know and they know me, and then a barrier will be set up between me and them." Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri added that the Prophet further said: "I will say those people are from me. It will be said, 'You do not know what changes and new things they did after you.' Then I will say, 'Far removed (from mercy), far removed (from mercy), those who changed (the religion) after me! " (Bukhari) Ibn Majah has related in this connection contains very pathetic words. The Holy Prophet said: "Beware! I shall have arrived at the Kauther before you and shall pride myself by your means upon the greater numbers of my nation as against other nations Do not at that time cause my face to be blackened. Beware: I shall have some people released, and some people shall be separated from me. I shall say: O my Lord, they are my companions. He will reply: Don't you know what innovations they introduced after you. According to Ibn Majah, these words were said by the Holy Prophet (pbuh) in his Sermon at Arafat. After reading and understanding the above will a wise Muslim dare to be close to Bida? Will he like to disrespect the prophet (pbuh)? This is so serious that even an action seems to be slight Bida will be set aside as the consequence is grave. There are many reporting on this subject in books of Hadith. Only few quoted. Since Bida is serious issue and many Muslim is confused of its real understanding, let us have a separate look on it in the next issue Insha Allah. to be continued, Allah willing.

Tips for Enterpreneurs

Do not overburden yourself right from the beginning. you will have plenty to do later on. An entrepreneur should be a moderate and calculated risk taker, so take your decisions considering this fact at all times. An entrepreneur's work is not to do all the work himself, but also to get result from the work done by others. Proper and planned utilization of time can yield better performance. Keep yourself fully informed about the market developments and think out the adjustments when required in advance. Do not avoid or run away from your problems be they the creditors/money lenders in band times, but take them into confidence and keep them informed about your real position. This is unpleasant but it can be helpful. The best way to face competition is to know more about your competitors, my meeting and talking to related persons, don't keep yourself in the dark about them. Do not hesitate to take advice of experts. Learn to use their advice to your advantage. Develop all round managerial understanding. Do not promise immediate repayments of private borrowings from your relatives or friends, especially if they have been put into long them assets. Spread out your payments and make promises on expected receipts. Don't delay. A days delay in decision can multiply in weeks/months. Any decision will always have many implications, both short term and long term. So weigh them, evaluate them and then do not be afraid to take hard and unpleasant decisions You must have your own information system to know where your business is leading. Don't depend too much on your memory. Make a habit of writing point's down and maintain the records regularly. A simple way is to spend at least 15 minutes a day to do this. That can save spending days at the end of the year to write them. Make recording a regular practice. Cost consciousness does not mean accurate calculations of cost up to last decimals. But it is awareness about your commitments, priorities, and implications, commensurate with your resources and returns. Through financial results and problems are your major concerns, these may not always be the only cause or factor for improving your performance. Anticipate changes and problems and prepare your self to face them. You will be surprised to know that the majority of MSME units have failed in the first year itself. Work hard and cautiously in the initial period in order to lay a solid foundation. A majority of the reasons that cause failure can be avoided if proper planning is done in advance. Only plan for likely difficulties/uncertainties over which you have reasonable control. Do not worry about uncertainties over which you h a v e l i t t l e c o n t r o l , m a ke provisions about them and then forget. For instance, take insurance against fire and then stop worrying. If you think someone can do your work, delegate it to him and monitor his performance. This will give you more time to do some more important work. Develop the habit of spending half an hour everyday to plan your activities and to assess your day's work. It will keep you free of tensions and your unit healthy. Managerial success is into keeping oneself, totally busy and involved in the day-to-day work, but to have adequate free time to think, plan and work for future also. Keep yourself aware about technology by visiting factories, exhibitions, and markets and by being members of trade/industry associations

Jeddah Chapter decides to sponsor 2nd RAHBAR Coaching Centre

the 23rd RCC of Madhubani @ Parsauni is allocated to them: In the monthly meeting of Bihar Anjuman's Jeddah chapter, on 21st September 2012, at brother Anas Ahmad Sbs residence, the members decided that the chapter has grown quite strong under the leadership of Engr. Ahmed Hashmi Sb. This added strength should now be tapped to sponsor second RAHBAR Coaching Centre (RCC). The chapter has been waiting for the approval of new RCC, as per the coaching guideline of Bihar Anjuman, since they first resolved to extend their sponsorship to a 2nd RCC in July. Now that the new RCC has been inaugurated (RCC Madhubani @ Parsauni, website: http://madhubani.biharanjuman.org/), it automatically gets allocated to Jeddah chapter. It is worth noting that Jeddah chapter is already sponsoring one RCC (Rafiganj, in Aurangabad district of Bihar), Alhamdolillah. It is a greatly inspiring to know that they are working hard to bring our brothers together, so that more could be done for the community. The Bakhabar team congratulates the Jeddah team and salutes their courage and hard work, and hopes that the momentum continues, insha-Allah, and inspires other centres to reach higher milestones.

Am I not your Lord?

Many a time this is observed that a disbeliever exhibits better human qualities and ethics than a fellow believer. In a society if someone finds that this is not just one of few isolated cases but there are number of such examples, what will be his impression? If he is a disbeliever, he will find reason to assume that Islam is not a good religion. This is where we can understand the importance of our obligation to first be a silent preacher, preaching through ones good personal qualities and behavior. If a Muslim finds that non-Muslims around him possess better moral values on human standard compared to Muslims what will he think? Here let me share my experience of encounter with a well-qualified person who has been quite involved in interfaith discussions in online forums and in electronic media as a defender of Islam. During a face-to-face discussion with me, he said, non-Muslims are much ahead of Muslims in this world because of their qualities and they may succeed in the life hereafter as well on account of their good deeds. I was shocked to hear they may succeed in the life hereafter, that too, from a person of such a high intellect who is known as a defender of Islam. In further talk I felt that his thinking might be based on a logic that since believers as a whole have simply failed to present real Islam to the world, therefore the disbelievers cant be held responsible for their disbelief. There is no doubt that we will be held responsible for our failures in propagation of true Islam but it wont at all help acquittal of disbelievers on the day of judgment. Allah hasnt left any of his creatures unguided. Entire mankind is descendant of Adam Alaihissalam and he was a messenger of Islam. Allah created the ascendant on true path then how can a descendant argue his innocence in going stray? How can a progeny defend his path of falseness if the creator has already guided the progenitor to the truth? Apart from being offspring of Allahs messenger, mankind has been provided guidance during evolution of civilization through messengers and books till the last messenger (peace be upon him) and the Divine book with him completed the guidance. Allah says in Surah Al Araf (7:172-173): And recall (O Prophet) when your Lord brought forth descendants from the loins of the sons of Adam, and made them witnesses against their own selves. Asking them: 'Am I not your Lord?' They said: 'Yes, we do testify.' We (Allah) did so lest you claim on the Day of Resurrection: 'We were unaware of this.' Or say: 'our forefathers before us who associated others with Allah in His divinity; we were merely their offspring who followed them. And would you destroy us for that which the unrighteous did? Interpretation of the above verse from tafheem-ul-quran follows: The event referred in the verse 7:172, according to several traditions, took place at the time of the creation of Adam. Apart from the prostration of the angels before Adam and the proclamation that man would be Allah's vicegerent on earth, all the future progeny of Adam were gathered, and were endowed with both existence and consciousness in order to bear witness to Allahs lordship. Both Qur'an & Hadith recount it as an actual happening and affirm that the covenant would be adduced as an argument against man on the Day of Judgment. The verse 7:173 describes that the purpose of the primordial covenant is to make every person responsible for his deeds so that if he rebels against Allah he will be held fully accountable for that rebellion. No one will be able either to plead for acquittal on grounds of ignorance, or blame his misdeeds on his ancestors. This is the reason for the inherent awareness in every person that Allah is the

---By Shakeel Ashraf (shakeel.ashraf@yahoo.com)

only Lord. Thus, none can absolve himself of his responsibility on the plea that he was altogether ignorant, or transfer the blame for his error to the corrupt environment. However to put man to the test in this word the covenant has been removed from the conscious memory but is preserved in the subconscious mind. The primordial covenant is no different from other pieces of knowledge in man's sub-conscious mind. Whatever man has so far achieved in the way of culture and civilization can be attributed to his latent potentialities. All external factors and internal motivations simply account for helping the actualization of those potentialities. Neither education nor training nor environmental factors can bring out anything which is not potentially found in the human mind. Likewise, external factors have no power to root out man's latent potentialities. External factors may, at the most, cause a person to deflect from the course dictated by sound human nature. However, man's sound nature is inclined to resist the pressure of external forces and exert itself in order to find an outlet. This is not specific to man's religious propensity alone, but is equally true of all his mental potentialities. In this regard the following points are particularly noteworthy: 1) All man's potentialities exist in the sub-conscious mind and prove their existence when they manifest themselves in the form of human action. 2) The external manifestation of these potentialities requires external stimuli such as instruction, upbringing and attitudinal orientation. 3) Man's inner potentialities can be suppressed both by false urges within him as well as external influences but these potentialities cannot be totally rooted out. The same holds true of man's intuitive knowledge regarding his position in the universe and his relationship with his Creator. Man has always had such intuitive knowledge, which required external stimuli through Prophets and Divine Books. This is the reason Qur'an has been designated as mudhakkir (the reminder). The Prophets and Heavenly Books do not seek to provide human beings with something new, something that exists outside of them. Their task rather consists of bringing to the surface and rejuvenating what is latent, though dormant, in man himself. Forces of ignorance, lust, bigotry, and teachings of devils have always attempted to suppress, conceal, and distort the fact that the truth preached by the Prophets is embedded in man's soul. These attempts gave rise to polytheism, atheism, religious misdirection and moral corruption. Despite the efforts of the forces of falsehood, this knowledge has always had an imprint on the human heart. Hence, whenever any effort was made to revive that knowledge, it has proved successful. On the Day of Resurrection Allah will revive in man the memory of the covenant and will provide evidence that the covenant always remained imprinted on man's soul. Man will no longer be in a position to justify his false claims. In the words of the Qur'an: '...and they will bear witness against themselves that they had disbelieved' (al-An'am 6: 130). Interpretation ends. Finally, I have no hesitation to state that in spite of being blessed with desired human qualities by his Creator, a disbeliever is a rebellion of His Lord. A believer may be a wrongdoer, still, he can expect forgiveness from his Lord but a rebel convict cant. A disbeliever having good deeds in his record may get some respite in the intensity of punishment but he will never qualify for salvation and entry to paradise if he remained in disbelief till the end of his life.

History of the rituals of Hajj

Excerpted from Isma Q&A
One of the things on which there is scholarly consensus among all the Muslims, ancient and modern, past and present, is that Hajj or pilgrimage to the Sacred House of Allah is one of the five pillars of Islam, as proven in al-Saheehain from the hadeeth of Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) and others. It is well known that Hajj, like other acts of worship, involves special actions, and each of these actions must be done in the prescribed manner, and sequence, such as entering ihraam from the meeqaat, tawaaf, saai between al-Safa and al-Marwah, standing in Arafah, staying overnight in Muzdalifah, stoning the Jamaraat, slaughtering the sacrifice, and the other well-known actions of Hajj. All of these actions should be done in accordance with the teachings of the Prophet (SallallahoAlaiheWasallam). There are many ahadith which describe the Hajj of the Prophet (SallallahoAlaiheWasallam); these have been compiled by Imam Ibn al-Qayyim in Zaad al-Maaad and by al-HaafizIbnKatheer in his book al-Bidaayahwal-Nihaayah; these scholars have also explained the rulings derived from these ahadith. The Muslim should pay attention to learning these rulings and acting upon them. Then we should remember that the basic purpose of the actions of Hajj is to establish the remembrance of Allah (Quran, 2:198-203) Tawaaf around the House and saai between al-Safa and al-Marwah and the stoning of the jamaraat, like other rituals, are prescribed so that remembrance of Allah may be established. So the Muslim venerates the rituals of Hajj because Allah has commanded him to venerate them, as Allah says in Quran (22:32). Bukhari (1610) narrated that Umar ibn al-Khattaab (may Allah be pleased with him) kissed the Black Stone and said, Were it not that I had seen the Messenger of Allah (SallallahoAlaiheWasallam) kissing you, I would not have kissed you. Ibn al-Jawzi (may Allah have mercy on him) said, whilst discussing and explaining the actions of Hajj: The background to these rituals is no longer present but the rulings remain in effect. These rituals may be confusing for some who see them and do not know the reasons for them, so they may say, This does not make sense. I have explained the reasons for them as far as narrated reports go, now I will explain to you the meanings behind them. Note that the basis for acts of worship is something rational and comprehensible, which is the submission of the slave to his Lord and obedience to Him. Prayer involves humility and submission, which is is what is meant by the word ibaadah (worship). Zakah involves kindness and helping the poor, so its meaning is clear. Fasting means suppressing the desires of the self so that it will be obedient to the One Whom it serves. By honouring the House and going there, and establishing a sanctuary (Haram) around it are acts of veneration. Arriving there unkempt and disheveled is like a slave turning to his Lord in humility and submission, and that is clear. A person feels at ease performing rituals that he understands, and that motivates him to do them, but to achieve full submission there are some rituals that a person may not understand, so he will not be at ease and will not comprehend them. In this case the only motive is to obey the commands of Allah. 1. When was Hajj enjoined? When did Hajj begin? Allah says (interpretation of the meaning): And proclaim to mankind the Hajj (pilgrimage). They will come to you on foot and on every lean camel, they will come from every deep and distant (wide) mountain highway (to perform Hajj) (Quran, 22:27) This has to do with the history of the enjoining of Hajj before the sending of the Prophet (SallallahoAlaiheWasallam). With regard to t h e en j o i n i n g o f Haj j i n S h ar i ah o f Muhammad(SallallahoAlaiheWasallam), there is no dispute that the Prophet (SallallahoAlaiheWasallam) did not perform Hajj after he migrated to Madeenah apart from one Hajj, which was the Farewell Pilgrimage. And there is no dispute that it occurred in 10 AH. AlQurtubi said in his Tafseer (2/4/92): Hajj was known to the Arabs. When Islam came, they were told about something they already knew and what was enjoined upon them was something they were familiar with 2. Tawaaf around the House: Allah says, and We commanded Ibrahim (Abraham) and Ismail that they should purify My House (the Kabah) for those who are circumambulating it, or staying (Itikf), or bowing or prostrating themselves (in prayer) (Quran, 2:125). This indicates that tawaaf around the Kabah was known at the time of Ibrahim (A.S.). 3. Raml: Raml means walking quickly with short steps. This is Sunnah for men but not for women during the tawaaf of arrival (tawaaf al-qudoom), which is the first tawaaf performed when one arrives in Makkah. How did raml begin? Bukhariand Muslim recorded that Ibn Abbaas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (SallallahoAlaiheWasallam) came with his companions and the mushrikoon said, There have come to you people who have been weakened by the fever ofYathrib. So the Prophet (SallallahoAlaiheWasallam) commanded them to walk quickly (raml) in the first three circuits. According to another report, he said, Walk quickly so that the mushrikeen will see that you are strong. 4. The water of Zamzam and Saii between al-Safa and alMarwah: Al-Bukhari narrated that Ibn Abbaas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Ibrahim broughtHaajra and her son Ismail when she was still breastfeeding him, to a place near the Kabah under a tree on the spot of Zamzam, at the highest place in the mosque. During those days there was nobody in Makkah, nor was there any water. He left them there. She followed him saying, O Ibrahim ! Where are you going, leaving us in this valley where there are no humans, nor is there anything (to sustain life)? She repeated that to him many times, but he did not look at her. Then she asked him, Has Allah commanded you to do this? He said, Yes. She said, Then He will not forsake us, and went back. When water left by Ibrahim A.S. finished, they became thirsty; IsmailA.S.s agony forced his mother to go to the mountain of al-Safa. She sawnobody, nor any traces of water. Then she rushed towards al-Marwa, where again, she saw nobody, nor any water. She repeated running between al-Safa and al-Marwa seven times. This is the origin of Saai (walking between alSafa and al-Marwa. When she reached al-Marwa (for the last time) she saw an angel at the place of Zamzam, digging the earth with his heel (or his wing), where Islamil A.S. was striking his feet in agony, until water appeared. The angel said to her, Do not be afraid of being neglected, for this is the House of Allah which will be built by this boy and his father, and Allah never neglects His people 5. The standing at Arafah: YazeedibnShaybaan said (Abu Dawood and al-Tirmidhi),We were standing in Arafah in a place far from the mawqifwhen the Messenger of Allah (SallallahoAlaiheWasallam) sent to us a message: Stay where you are (for it is also the place of standing), for you are standing in the area where your father Ibrahim stood. Many of the actions of Hajj stem from the time of Ibrahim (peace be upon him), but the mushrikeen introduced some innovations which were not prescribed. When the Prophet (SallallahoAlaiheWasallam) was sent, he opposed them in that and explained what was prescribed for the actions of Hajj.

Why are they targeting Prophet Mohammad (PBUH)?

It was first the Orient lists (the person having authority on Eastern culture and religion), who tried to vulcanized the sanctity of the religion of Islam by raising such non-sense issues like the sacredness of the Holy Quran, the revelation of Quran by Allah Rabbul Alameen through Hajrat Gabriel, the character of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), the problem of Jews, the teachings of Islam, the status of women in Islam spreading of Islam in the world, Jihad (holy Wars) etc. These orient lists first tried to create suspicion about Islam by raising questions and attacking on the character of holy Prophet (PBUH).Among these orient lists are John of Damascus, David Hume, sir William Muir, John Esposito, William Montgomery Watt, Karen Arm Strong etc .Undoubtly, they succeeded in doing so by creating a class of Muslims an Non-Muslims writers in modern times who are attacking Islam from all sides. The western scholarship and their method of literary criticism are sharp weapons by which they are maligning Islam. The so called secularist, extra-nationalist and comrade (communist Muslims) are helping them by presenting themselves modern and immune from love of religion; cited by the enemies of Islam as role model for the rest of Muslims and Muslims society. Among these prominents are migrated from South-Asian nations like V.S Naipaul (Beyond Belief), Salman Rushdie (SATANIC VERSES),Taslima Nasreen(LAZZA) etc. These writers are attacking Islam just to appease their western masters. The attacks by Muslim writers have devasting impact on the mentality of non-Muslim about the image of Islam. But why from the time of the orient list to present day, the character of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) has been targeted? With the coming of Islam in 7th century, the two other faiths- Jews and Christian lost their prominence. They did not accepted Islam as divine religion. From the very beginning they targeted Islam, Particularly the prophet (PBUH). Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) has been centralized in Islam by Allah Rabbul Alameen. No Mohammad (PBUH), no Islam. If the character of prophet is tarnished, then the whole system of Islam like revelation of the Quran, Hadith and tenants of Islam automatically would be tarnished. So, thats why from the very beginning they tried to tarnish the character of Prophet but failed miserably. The defeat in crusade by Muslims in Medieval Age is still hunting the minds of the European scholars .In present time the rising demographic scale of Muslims in Europe and America-the traditional power houses of Christendom and jewsdom world has frightened them. So, to stop and tarnish the image of Islam in age of multicultural world the enemies of Islam has started onslaught on the character of prophet (PBUH) freshly in disguise of freedom of Speech and power of reasoning. Nationalism was the mantra of Unity for European world and a ban to Islamic world as Islamic nations had been divided on the basis of race like Turkish, Arab, Iranian, etc from sixteenth century. Nationalism destroyed the very fabric of the Western civilization in two World Wars in which millions of people killed but it lost the utility. The disunity among the European nations forced the European scholars to look for an ism to be a source of unity. The Red danger (the communism) declared as enemy and also became a source of unity as the whole west was united against this menace in blanket of cold war. The end of Communism and fall of Russia again created the problem for the European unity (the Balkan war of 1990 onwards) and hegemony. So, to maintain the unity and hegemony of the West (Europe and America), the Islam was targeted from 1990. The thesis of clashes of civilization was coined by Huntington and Green Zone was declared as a potential threat to the hegemony of west. The ally against Red Danger turned into enemy and enmity was started with invading Iraq. The story of nuclear was cooked; the concept of terrorism was coined and wars were started to give access to Islamic world to American and European forces. The legalization of action against terrorism by UNO even with violation of sovereignty was accepted. To continue this trend of terrorism, presence of the west army in Islamic nations, unity of the west and defame Islam to stop it from rising in the west, the attacks on Islam have been continuing systematically for the last 30 years. The present episode is another design to create anarchy in the Islamic nations by bringing people and the government into clashes. The Government would provide the safety to the western nation people as an obligation of Geneva Convention while the people would protest against the insult of Islam and prophet. This would turn into violence and no peace in Islamic nations. While the west will not take any action against the culprit in the name of freedom of speech granted to them by the constitution of the nation e.g. the case of America. No peace means any progress in Islamic world. Other hand it will also provide an opportunity to the west to send forces into Islamic world in the name of rising fundamentalism and terrorism. So, the duties of the Islamic Governments and Muslims around the world are to understand the design of the conspirators. Who wants that there should be clash of Islamic and Christian world? Who are the people using the Right of freedom of speech to defame Islam? Who are the people want anarchy in Islamic world? Who are the people who will get a chance to promote their vested interest? Who are the people who want to bring people and government into clashes? And then the government and the people chalk out a policy to counter these designs. Let it make clear to the west that there would be no compromise on the honor of prophet and Islam. If Islam and the prophet are targeted then there would be no protection to the economic and political interest of any nations in Islamic world. Either you choose to be with the attacker of Islam or with us. The reaction of Muslims should be more economic oriented. Who are the people who are doing the work of character assassination of prophet? For them there should be no market of Islamic nations. Ban their companies, goods and services in Islamic nations. After rise of China and India, the markets of Muslim nations are very much important for the west. The ongoing financial crisis in the west is nothing but loss of market to other emerging powers of the world like China, India and Brazil etc. Also have a look on all those companies and ban them which have any relation with the culprits. Allah Rabbul Alameen is Khairur Rajeqqeen not these companies. This is good that Muslims around the world are showing their Islamic spirit of Imaan. The Muslims around world must understand that they have to love to the prophet to prove themselves Muslims. Many verses of holy Quran and Ahaadith reminds Muslims about the love for prophet .But too much undue reaction should not lead FITNA and Fasad in Islamic world. The Muslims should not be like the western people who have lost every love for their religion and Prophet Jesus Christ (PBUH).For example in many countries of the West the denial of HOLOCAUST is a crime but denial of God, making fun of Jesus Christ (PBUH) and Bible are not crime. Muslims around the world should act wisely and cautiously. So, the interest of Islam and Muslim nations along with their friends do not jeopardized. Mohammad Allam Minto Circle A.M.U.Aligarh

18 Ways to Make Your Parents Feel Great

By Mohammed Zafer Ali Not only 18, there are limitless and countless ways to make your parents feel great. In addition to the below mentioned points, discover your own ways of making your parents feel great. Please read carefully till the end. May ALLAH give us all taufeeq to serve our parents. The parents now a days are quite worried about the behavioural changes in theirchildren due to several socio-economic reasons. The gap between parents and us, the youth, is increasing day by day due to which the family bonding is getting weaker and weaker. We, the youth, want liberty in every deed we do. We want our parents not to be disturbing us in what-ever we do in what-so-ever manner. We have forgotten the amount of time our parents have invested in for our bringing up. We have forgotten the countless efforts and sacrifices by our parents throughout our lives. Starting from our birth they have taken care of our food (22years * 365 days * 3 times = 24,000 times!), our clothes (daily washing, ironing, new purchasing), our education (daily home works, uniform, school/tuition fee), religious & moral teaching every day (THE REAL GREAT JOB), computer & toys purchasing and God knows how many other countless efforts they have put in to make us a complete human being to survive in this world. Indeed, all those efforts cannot be covered in this article but the overall emphasis is that it is our moral and religious mandatory responsibility to take care of them, now. Below are some small acts of kindness which I request you to consider, to show your affection for them, and to take care of them: 1. Give them enough money so that they don't have to ask you. According to a Hadith of Prohet (PBUH), you and your money, both, belong to your father. 2. Share funny and entertaining things with them to make them laugh or smile. 3. Don't speak loudly to them. Speak slowly, nicely and softly. 4. Do not walk in front of them in market or anywhere. They might walk slow being old; stay behind them. Give them respect. 5. Ask for small tasks again and again. For example, "AbbuJee, do you need water? Should I bring tea for you? Are you hungry, baba" etc 6. Closely monitor their health. Visit the doctor, if required. Have them thoroughly checked from time to time. 7. Take care of their medicines. Set reminders on your phone for their medicines and serve them on time. 8. Take them to the mosque, before each of the fardh prayers. Walk slowly. Follow their pace. 9. Take them to the park for a walk. If not possible daily, then take them on the weekends. 10. Do not call them by their name. Call them with respect. 11. Open the door for them with respect. 12. Adapt yourself according to their schedule, not vice versa. 13. Do shopping for them (buy their clothes, shoes, small items like tooth paste). Buy your mother a nice coffee cup. Take them to market and buy them according to their likings. Buy your parents some nice books; usually people love to read books in old age. 14. When you come back to home, visit them first in their room. 15. Respect their social circle, and let them enjoy with their friends. 16. In case of conflict on any issue, try to follow them as much as possible. Remember, they have been sacrificing their money and time in raising you for years and years. It is time to pay back. They have been showing all the patience during your childhood. It is time for you to be patient. 17. Keep them with you instead of sending them to old-age homes etc. This will be a big act of ignorance if you do. 18. When starting the food, serve them first. In the end, I would recommend making a check-list of this email and paste it on any wall in your room or kitchen and read it often to remember. Please do share if you are doing any other good thing in making your parents feel great :)

Eid Prayers of the Prophet

(Sallallaho Alaihe Wasallam)
Adapted from Islam Q&A Praise be to Allaah. A. Place of Eid Prayers: The Prophet (Sallallaho Alaihe Wasallam) used to offer the Eid prayers in the prayer-place (Eid-Musalla). There is no report of his offering the Eid prayer in his mosque. Al-Shaafai said in alUmm: It was narrated that the Messenger of Allaah (Sallallaho Alaihe Wasallam) used to go out on the two Eids to the Eid prayer-place in Madeenah, as did those (caliphs) who came after him, unless there was an excuse such as rain etc. The people of other lands did likewise, apart from the people of Makkah. B. The Attire for the Occasion: He used to do ghusl (bath) before going out on the day of Eid. He used to wear his most beautiful garments to go out to pray. He had a suit (hullah- two-piece suit of the same kind of fabric) which he would wear for Eid and Jumuah (Friday prayer). C. Break Fast with Meat of Sacrificed Animal: On Eid al-Adha, the Prophet (Sallallaho Alaihe Wasallam) would not eat anything until he came back from the prayer-place, then he would eat some of the meat of his sacrifice. D. Go for Eid Prayer Walking, not Riding: And he (Sallallaho Alaihe Wasallam) used to go out to the Eid prayer walking, and come back walking. [Ibn Maajah (1295) from Ibn Umar, and Tirmidhi (530) from Ali ibn Abi Taalib] It is mustahabb for us not to ride unless we have an excuse. E. No Ahaan (Azaan) or Iqama before Eid Prayer: When the Prophet (Sallallaho Alaihe Wasallam) reached the prayer-place, he would begin the prayer with no adhaan or iqaamah, and without saying Al-salaatu jaamiah (prayer is about to begin). The Sunnah is not to do any of these things. And he did not offer any prayer in the prayer-place before or after the Eid prayer. F. The Eid Prayers Format: The Prophet (Sallallaho Alaihe Wasallam) would start with the prayer, before the khutbah. He prayed two rakahs, with seven consecutive takbeers in the first rakah, including takbeerat al-ihraam (the takbeer with which the prayer begins), and a brief pause between each two takbeers. Ibn UmarRazi Allaho Anhu, used to raise his hands with each takbeer. When he had completed the takbeers, he would start to recite. He would recite al-Faatihah then recite Soorah Qaaf in the first rakah and Soorat alQamar in the other. Sometimes he recited Soorat al-Alaa and Soorat alGhaashiyah. Both were narrated in saheeh reports, but no other soorahs are mentioned in saheeh reports. When he had finished reciting he would say takbeer and bow. When he had finished bowing and prostrating and had stood up again, he would say five takbeers. When he had completed the takbeers he would start to recite again. The takbeer was the first thing that he would do in each rakah and his recitation was followed by rukoo (bowing). [Timridhi] G. Khutba after the Eid Prayer: When the Prophet (Sallallaho Alaihe Wasallam) had finished the prayer, he would move away and stand facing the people, with the people sitting in their rows, and he would address them, preaching and exhorting, with commands and prohibitions. If he wanted to dispatch anyone on a mission he would do so, and if he wanted to enjoin anything he would do that. There was no minbar on which he would stand, and the minbar of Madeenah was not brought out. Rather he would address them standing on the ground. The Prophet (Sallallaho Alaihe Wasallam) started all his khutbahs with praise of Allaah. It is not narrated even in one hadeeth that he started the khutbah of Eid with takbeer. H. Listening to Khutba is Optional: The Prophet (Sallallaho Alaihe Wasallam) granted a concession allowing those who attended the Eid prayers either to sit and listen to the khutbah, or to leave. [Abu Dawood (1155) narrated that Abd-Allaah ibn al-Saaib, classed as saheeh by alAlbaani] I. Different Routes to and from the Eid Prayer Ground: The Prophet (Sallallaho Alaihe Wasallam) used to vary his route on the day of Eid. He would go by one route and come back by another. Bukhari (986) from Jaabir ibn Abd-Allaah]

Useful idiots
By S.G. Jilanee<sjila_104@hotmail.com> Attributed to Lenin, Useful Idiots (UI) was a derogatory remark about Soviet sympathizers in the West who supported the Soviet leadership blindly. Later it was extended to apply to people who act as propagandists for a cause whose goals they do not understand and support its leadership come what may. The useful idiots, for their part, claim their unflinching loyalty as proof of their lofty character. The sobriquet applies most perfectly to the Muslims of the Indian state of Bihar. These Bihari Muslims did not understand the goals of the All-India Muslim Leagues demand for a separate homeland for the Mussalmans of India.Yet, they went totally berserk in support of the cause. A glaring example was the president of the Bihar provincial Muslim League, Syed Abdul Aziz. He sold off his sprawling mansion and his mica mine to meet the expenses of hosting the twenty-sixth Session of the League in December 1938 at the provincial capital, Patna. Situated between the Exhibition and Fraser Roads and overlooking the vast Race Course ground, the compound of the building covered several acres of the choicest property in the city. A fabulous pandal was erected. Dazzling illumination turned night into day and a mass of people never seen before (or after) filled the vast race course ground. At the dais sat League President, Mohammad Ali Jinnah, in the centre with other top leaders of the party on either side. Granted, the event was a grand success; that it was historic. But did it have to be this way? The U.P. had a surfeit of nawabs of all sizes and dimensions. Punjab mushroomed with Maliks and Sardars. But none ever put up such show. Only the UI syndrome can explain this senseless waste of money because, obviously, Barrister Abdul Aziz did not clearly understand the real purpose of the cause he was supporting with such ardour. It was revealed when the Liaqat-Nehru Pact excluded Bihar from agreed areas with regard to compensation for abandoned properties. Nor was it a stray case of an individual. A collective display of the UI disease was exhibited by the Biharis who migrated to East Pakistan. Committed to Pakistan they believed that the West Pakistanis were its true saviours. Because they poke Urdu, they jumped with alacrity at the declaration that Urdu and Urdu alone would be Pakistans national language. Typically they shut their eyes to the reality around them and opposed the aspirations of the indigenous people. In 1954 the first anti-Bihari riots erupted at the Adamjee Jute Mills in Narayanganj as soon as the Jukta Frontgovernment was sworn in defeating the Muslim League. But the Biharis ignored the clear signal and went on with their lives merrily, smug in the belief that the West Pakistan will get them through. Their useful idiocy reached its apogee in 1971 when they allied with the Pakistan army in its crackdown against Bengalis. They enlisted in the Jamaat-e-Islamis marauding hordes of Al Shams, Al Badr, the armys razakar militia and the East Pakistan Civil Armed Force (EPCAF) hunting down the local people. When reckoning came, their mentors vanished leaving them behind to face the music, whose dreadful strains were spine-chilling. Biharis were driven out of their homes and packed off to ghettos, massacred in thousands regardless of gender or age, raped with abandon. Many were killed simply by draining off their blood with hypodermic syringes. At the railway junction of Santahar alone, the entire Bihari population of several thousand men women and children was totally wiped out. The Jamaat-e-Islami abandoned them. The army disowned them. Opposition to their repatriation and rehabilitation in Pakistan was so intense that philanthropists, such as Ahmad E.H. Jaffer and Lord Ennals, as well as the Motamar-e-Alam-e-Islami had to give up efforts to collect funds for the purpose. But, despite the miserable life in the relief camps in Bangladesh, the Biharis went on to unfurl Pakistan flag on 23 March and 14 August. Many have since died. Yet, as true symbols of Useful Idiots, the few that are still living, have their faith unshaken in the fantasy that they will one day be going home to Pakistan.

Eid Clothes to Assam Riot Victims, by RAHBAR - NGO of Bihar Anjuman

Fashion Gallery of Zakir Nagar leaves the RAHBAR team greatly inspired A Report by Jawed Ahmed (general secy of RAHBAR, the NGO of Bihar Anjuman), on behalf of his team (Mr.Ishteyaq, Jb. Haseebsb, father in law of Mr Ishteyaq, and Mr Mumtaz) Objective: Arrangement of new clothes on the eve of Eid, for those Assamese Muslims who were forced to live in camps of Hojaee and Dhubri districts of Asam, after losing their houses and all their possessions due to attack by armed Bodomilitants. From 24th Ramzan 2012, I started contacting and talking to the people regarding this issue and kept requesting them to donate only one pair of Kurta-Pajama for adults(or,Rs. 300/=). Everyone was interested in giving money, and this way, I had collected Rs 32,950/=. In the beginning, I had decided to purchase all the items from Old-Delhi so that I could get as many pairs of Kurta-Pajama as possible(within the budget). But one of my students,Mr.Ishtyaq, came forward and suggested me to do all the shopping from a shop named Fashion Gallery, located in Zakir Nagar.I was initially hesitant, but finally decided to give it a try. On 28th Ramadan (17th Aug), Jumaatul Vida, we reached the shop after offeringAlvida-Namaaz;the lowest price of one pair of Kurta-Pajamawas about Rs 500/=,far beyond our expected range(our range was Rs 300/=). Fortunately, Ishteyaqs father-in-law was very close to the shop-owner; the price of each pair was finally settled atRs 320/=. So, we ordered for 85 piecesof sizes 38 to 44.Expected weight of all these clothes was around 20 kg., and we were afraid of running short of moneyrequired for aircargo(Rs 180/kg),so, we requested the shopkeeper to take back 10 pieces of size-44. He asked the reason which I explained to him. Then, he returned the money to me, but did not take back those 10 kurta-pajamas.He said that these would be from his side (as his contribution). The shop-owner, then, started giving bunches of kurta-pajamas of different sizes starting from zero size to largest size (for the age group of 5 years to 70 years);I was gettingmore tense worrying about cargo charges for all these materials to the destination points.Anyhow, wepacked all the stuff into two big-sized cartons and took them to courier-wala. It was then 5.30 pm and Iftar time was at 7.15 PM. So, we had shortage of time, plus, huge shortage of money; you can imagine my situation. The total weight of both the cartons was now a whopping 117 kg. (we had hardly purchased 17 kgs.) We realized that the shopkeeper had donated about 100 kg of clothes FREE of cost.Masha-Allah! For distributing the clothes among the affected people,Ajmal Foundationsmanager (Mr Islam)had confirmed they would do it,ifwe could make the relief-materials reach the affected area anyhow. When I gave the address to the courier-wala, and he quoted the transportation-cost, it left me in an awkward situation, because we did not have that much money. I could not dump those materials anywhere else.It was then that an idea flashed into my mind. I called Mr Islam, manager of Ajmal Foundation, and told him,You will have to collect all the stuff from Guwahati airport. If not, then, I am going to the residence of Mr.BadruddinAjmalsb(President of Ajmal Foundation and Member of Parliament) with all the relief-material.He replied, Sir, hojayega, hum log airport sey hi collect karleingey,no problem. The courier charges from Delhi to Guwahati airport came toRs. 9,360; it was then 6.45pm,already, andwe had to literally run back to our homes, for Iftar at 7:15pm. 29thRamzan (18th Aug) afternoon, Ajmal Foundation had collected the

two cartons, the Eid was to be on Monday.On29th& 30thRamzan, they distributed all the clothes among our ill-fated brothers. Is kaammein jitney log neyjistarah se contribute kiya, Allah unkeygunahoonkomaafkarkeysabheeseyrazeeehojayey. Ameen. Virtues of the Day of Sacrifice, Characteristics of Udhiya, and Days of Udhiya (Sacrifice)
The sacrificial camels we have made for you as among the symbols from Allah: in them is (much) good for you: then pronounce the name of Allah over them as they line up (for sacrifice): when they are down on their sides (after slaughter), eat ye thereof, and feed such as (beg not but) live in contentment, and such as beg with due humility: thus have We made animals subject to you, that ye may be grateful. It is not their meat nor their blood, that reaches Allah: it is your piety that reaches Him: He has thus made them subject to you, that ye may glorify Allah for His Guidance to you and proclaim the good news to all who do right. [Quran, 22:36-7] Part-1: Virtues of the Day of Sacrifice When the Prophet (SallallahoAlaiheWasallam) came to Madina, he found that they had two days on which they used to play. He said, Allaah has given you two days better than these, the day of al-Fitr and the day of al-Adha. [Abu Dawood, 1134; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani]. In this world the believers have three festivals or Eids: One Eid which is repeated every week is Friday (Jumuah), and the two other Eids which come once a year: 1. Eid al-Fitr: the breaking of the Ramadaan fast. This comes upon the completion of the month of Ramadaan, which is the third pillar of Islam. When the Muslims have finished fasting the month that is enjoined upon them, Allaah has prescribed that they celebrate a festival on which they gather to thank Allaah, remember Him and glorify Him for His guidance. 2. Eid al-Adha (the Feast of Sacrifice), on 10th day of Dhul-Hijjah. This is the greater of the two feasts, which comes after the completion of Hajj, for when the Muslims complete their Hajj they are forgiven. The day of Arafah is the day of ransom from the Fire, when Allah ransoms from Hellfire those who stood at Arafah and Muslims who did not stand at Arafah. Hence the day that follows is a festival for all Muslims, those who attended Hajj and those who did not. It is prescribed for all of them to draw closer to Allaah by this ritual of shedding the sacrificial blood. (SallallahoAlaiheWasallam) said: All of Mina is the place of sacrifice, and all the days of al-tashreeq are days of sacrifice. [al-Albaani in al-Silsilah al-Saheehah, 2476] Time of Sacrifice: It is permissible to offer the sacrifice during any time by night or by day, but it is better during the day, and the day of Eid after the khutbah is the best time. Each day is better than the following day, because that means hastening to do good. [Ibn Uthaymeen in Ahkaam al-Udhiyah]

Part-3: Characteristics of Udhiya (Sacrifice)

There are six conditions for the udhiyah: 1. Types of Animal: The best type of animals are camels, then cows if sacrificed on behalf of one person; then sheep; then goats; then oneseventh of a camel; then one-seventh of a cow. The best types of animals are those which are fat and have more meat, and are physically complete and good looking. 2. Age of Animal: It should have reached the age stipulated in shariah, which is six months for a sheep and the age at which the animal is considered to be an adult for any other animal, because the Prophet (SallallahoAlaiheWasallam) said: Do not sacrifice anything but an adult animal, unless it is difficult for you, in which case you may slaughter a sixmonth old lamb (jadhah). [Muslim]. So, a camelmust be five years old. The cattle (class of cow) must be two years old. A sheep should preferably be a year old. The jadhah is that which is six months old (sheep). 3. Free of Defects: It should be free of any faults that would render it unsuitable for sacrifice: a. An obvious defect in one eye, such as when the eye is sunken in its socket, or when it sticks out like a button, or is white and obviously defective. b. Obvious sickness, whose symptoms are clearly apparent in the animal, such as fever that prevents it from grazing and causes loss of appetite; mange that obviously affects its flesh or its health; deep wounds that affect its health, and so on. c. Obvious lameness, which prevents the animal from walking normally. d. Emaciation that leaves no marrow in the bones, [Maalik in al-Muwatta from the hadith of al-Bara ibn Aazib. Also in Sunan, Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Irwa al-Ghaleel, 1148]. On the basis of similar faults or more severe faults, following are also unsuitable for sacrifice: a. One that is blind in both eyes. b. One that has eaten more than it can stand, until the danger has passed. c. One that has encountered difficulty in giving birth, until all danger has passed. d. One that has suffered something that could kill it, such as strangulation or a fall from a high place, until the danger has passed. e. One that is unable to walk because of a defect. f. One that has had one of its forelegs or hind legs cut off. 4. Castrated and Uncastrated, both, are permitted evidence from hadith is available for both. 5. Ownership of Animal: The animal should belong to the person who is offering the sacrifice, or he should have permission for that either on the grounds of shariah or from the owner. A sacrifice offered by the guardian of an orphan from the orphans property is valid if that is customary and if he feels sad about not offering a sacrifice. A sacrifice offered by a guardian from the property of the person under his care is valid, if done with permission. 6. Free from Rights of Others: No one else should have any rights to the sacrificial animal; the sacrifice of an animal that is held in pledge is not valid. 7. Permissible Time of Sacrifice: Refer to Part-2. 8. Must not be sold: The animal of sacrifice must not be sold, nor should any part of it be sold, nor be given as compensation to the butcher. 9. Pronounce Name of Allah while slaughtering: BismillahiAllahu Akbar; Allahummaminka, walaka: "In the name of Allah, Allah is most Great! O Allah, this is Thine and is presented to Thee".

The virtues of this day may be summed up as follows:

A. It is the best of days before Allah. The best of days before Allaah is the Day of Sacrifice, which is the greatest day of Hajj [SunanAbiDawood (1765), classed asSaheehny al-Albani]. B. It is the greatest day of Hajj. It was narrated that Ibn Umar (RadhiAllahoAnhu) said: The Prophet (SallallahoAlaiheWasallam) stood between the Jamaraat on the Day of Sacrifice during his Hajj and said, This is the greatest day of Hajj. Narrated by al-Bukhaari,1742. That is because the greatest actions of Hajj take place on this day, when the pilgrims do the following: (i) Stoning Jamrat al-Aqabah (ii) Offering the sacrifice (iii) Shaving the head or cutting the hair (iv) Tawaaf (circumambulation of the Kabah) (v) Saai (running between al-Safa and al-Marwah) C. I t i s t h e E i d d a y o f t h e M u s l i m s .T h e P r o p h e t (SallallahoAlaiheWasallam) said: The day of Arafah, the day of Sacrifice, and the days of al-Tashreeq are our festival, us Muslims, and they are days of eating and drinking. [Tirmidhi, 773; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani].

Part-2: Four Days forUdhiya (Sacrifice)

Days of Sacrifice:The time for offering the sacrifice begins after the Eid prayer on Eid al-Adha and ends when the sun sets on the thirteenth of Dhul-Hijjah. So there are four days of sacrifice: the day of Eid al-Adha and the three days after it. It is better to hasten to offer the sacrifice after the Eid prayer, as the Messenger (SallallahoAlaiheWasallam) used to do, then the first thing he would eat on the day of Eid would be meat from his sacrifice. Ali ibnAbiTaalib (RaziAllaahuAnhu) said: The days of sacrifice are the Day of Sacrifice (yawm al-nahr) and the three days after it. The three days are specified because they are the days of Mina, the days of stoning (the Jamaraat) and the day of al-Tashreeq. It is forbidden to fast on these days. It was narrated via two isnaads, that the Prophet

First Ten Days of DhulHijjah

Days of Virtue and Righteous Deeds
Among the special seasons of worship are the first ten days of DhulHijjah, which Allah has preferred over all the other days of the year. Ibn Abbas (RadhiAllahuAnhu) reported that the Prophet (SallallahoAlaiheWasallam) said: "There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten days." The people asked, "Not even jihad for the sake of Allah?" He said, "Not even jihad for the sake of Allah, except in the case of a man who went out to fight giving himself and his wealth up for the cause, and came back with nothing."(Bukhari, 2/457). You should know, my brother in Islam, that the virtue of these ten days is based on many things: 1. Allah swears an oath by them, and swearing an oath by something is indicative of its importance and great benefit. Allah says: "By the dawn; by the ten nights" [al-Fajr 89:1-2]. Ibn Abbas, Ibn al-Zubayr, Mujahid and others of the earlier and later generations said that this refers to the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah. IbnKatheer said: "This is the correct opinion." (TafseerIbnKatheer, 8/413) 2. The Prophet (SallallahoAlaiheWasallam) encouraged people to do righteous deeds because of the virtue of this season for people throughout the world, and also because of the virtue of the place - for the Hujjaj (pilgrims) to the Sacred House of Allah. 3. The Prophet (SallallahoAlaiheWasallam) commanded us to recite a lot of Tasbeeh ("Subhan-Allah"), Tahmeed ("AlhamduLillah") and Takbeer ("Allahuakbar") during this time. Abdullah ibn Umar (RadhiAllahuAnhu) reported that the Prophet (SallallahoAlaiheWasallam) said: "There are no days greater in the sight of Allah and in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Him than these ten days, so during this time recite a great deal of Tahleel ("La ilaha ill-Allah"), Takbeer and Tahmeed." (Ahmad, 7/224). 4. These ten days include Yawm Arafah (the Day of Arafah), on which Allah perfected His Religion. Fasting on this day will expiate for the sins of two years. These days also include Yawm alNahar (the Day of Sacrifice), the greatest day of the entire year and the greatest day of Hajj, which combines acts of worship in a way unlike any other day. 5. These ten days include the days of sacrifice and of Hajj. Concerning the types of worship to be performed during these ten days, one must understand that these days are a great blessing from Allah to His slave, which is appreciated properly by the actively righteous. It is the Muslims duty to appreciate this blessing and make the most of the opportunity, by devoting these ten days to paying more attention to striving hard in worship. Among His blessings to His slaves, Allah has given us many ways in which to do good and worship Him, so that the Muslim may be constantly active and consistent in his worship of his Lord. Among the good deeds which the Muslim should strive to do during the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah are: 1. Fasting. It is Sunnah to fast on the ninth day of DhulHijjah, because the Prophet (SallallahoAlaiheWasallam) urged us to do good deeds during this time, and fasting is one of the best of deeds. Allah has chosen fasting for Himself, as is stated in the hadeethqudsi: "Allah says: All the deeds of the son of Adam are for him, except for fasting, which is for Me and I am the One Who will reward him for it." (Reported by al-Bukhari, 1805). The Prophet (SallallahoAlaiheWasallam) used to fast on the ninth of Dhul-Hijjah. Hunaydahibn Khalid reported from his wife that some of the wives of the Prophet (SallallahoAlaiheWasallam) said: "The Prophet (SallallahoAlaiheWasallam) used to fast on the ninth of Dhul-Hijjah, on the day of Ashoora, on three days of each month, and on the first two Mondays and Thursdays of each month." (al-Nisai, 4/205; al-Albani in SaheehAbiDawud, 2/462). 2. Performing Hajj and Umrah. One of the best deeds that one can do during these ten days is to perform Hajj to the Sacred House of Allah. The one whom Allah helps to go on Hajj to His House and to perform all the rituals properly is included in the words of the Prophet (SallallahoAlaiheWasallam): "An accepted Hajj brings no less a reward than Paradise. 3. Doing more good deeds in general, because good deeds are beloved by Allah and will bring a great reward from Him. Whoever is not able to go to Hajj should occupy himself at this blessed time by worshipping Allah, praying (salat), reading Quran, remembering Allah, making supplication (dua), giving charity, honouring his parents, upholding the ties of kinship, enjoining what is good and forbidding what is evil, and other good deeds and acts of worship. 4. Sacrifice. One of the good deeds that will bring a person closer to Allah during these ten days is offering a sacrifice, by choosing a high-quality animal and fattening it, spending money for the sake of Allah. (more information to follow, in sha Allah). 5. Sincere repentance. One of the most important things to do during these ten days is to repent sincerely to Allah and to give up all kinds of disobedience and sin. Repentance means coming back to Allah and foregoing all the deeds, open and secret, that He dislikes, out of regret for what has passed, giving it up immediately and being determined never to return to it, but to adhere firmly to the Truth by doing what Allah loves. If a Muslim commits a sin, he must hasten to repent at once, without delay, firstly because he does not know when he will die, and secondly because one evil deed leads to another. Repentance at special times is very important because in most cases peoples thoughts turn towards worship at these times, and they are keen to do good, which leads to them recognizing their sins and feeling regret for the past. Repentance is obligatory at all times, but when the Muslim combines sincere repentance with good deeds during the days of most virtue, this is a sign of success, in sha Allah. Allah says (interpretation of the meaning): "But as for him who repented, believed and did righteous deeds, then he will be among those who are successful." [al-Qasas 28:67] 6. Recite a lot of Tasbeeh ("Subhan-Allah"), Tahmeed ("AlhamduLillah") and Takbeer ("Allahuakbar") Source: Excerpted from Sheikh Muhammed Salih Al-Munajjids article in Islam Q&A

AURANGZEB: TRUTHS ABOUT A RULER

Hello, I am Brijendra Singh; I have done my PGDM course from I.I.S.E Business School Lucknow. I am not a student of history but I like to read history due to my interest. In this article I have tried to provide some facts related to E mperor Aurangzeb. His image as a person and as a ruler is negative among the Indian citizens, but I am sure when you will go through this article your attitude will change towards this ruler. Aurangzeb Alamgir was the sixth & the last great mughal emperor of India. He ruled India from 1658 to 1707 AD. He was one of the greatest mughal emperors & lived a very simple life. He lived on a small quantity of food, he used to write the quran with his own hand & sell them to earn extra wage. If he wanted, he could have lived a life of extra-ordinary luxury as the, emperors, kings, nawabs, rajas, maharajas did in those days. He was a well-read man; he kept up his love of books till the end. He wrote beautiful Persian prose. A selection of his letters (Ruqat-iAlamgiri) has long been a standard model of simple but elegant prose. He understood music well but he gave up this amusement in accordance with Islamic injunctions. Emperor Aurangzeb is considered as the greatest of all the mughal kings. The mughal state reached its height under his leadership. The state has 29.2% of the world population under its flag (175 million out of 600 million in 1700 AD) & was one of the richest states the world had ever seen, with a world GDP of 24.5% ($ 90.8 billion out of $ 371 billion in 1700). Of all the Muslim rulers who ruled vast territories of India from 712 to 1857AD, probably no one has received as much condemnation from western & Hindu writers as Aurangzeb. He has been castigated as a religious Muslim who was anti-Hindu, who taxed them, who tried to convert them, who discriminated them in awarding high administrative positions, & who interfered in their religious matters. This view has been heavily promoted in the government approved text books in schools & colleges across post partition India (i.e., after 1947). These are fabrications against one of the best rulers of India who was pious, scholarly, saintly, un-biased, liberal, magnanimous, tolerant, competent & far sighted. Fortunately, in recent years quite a few Hindu historians have come out in the open disputing those allegations. For e.g., historian Babu Nagendranath Banerjee rejected the accusation of forced conversion of Hindus by Muslim rulers by stating that if that was their intention then in India today there would not be nearly four times as many Hindus compared to Muslims, despite the fact that Muslims had ruled for nearly a thousand years. Banerjee challenged the Hindu hypothesis that Aurangzeb was anti-Hindu by reasoning that if the latter was truly guilty of such bigotry, how could he appoint a Hindu as his military commander -in chief? Surely, he could have afforded to appoint a competent Muslim general in that position. Banerjee further stated: No one should accuse Aurangzeb of being communal minded. In his administration the state policy was formulated by Hindus. A number of non-Muslims including Hindus, Sikhs, Marathas & Jats, were employed by him in his court. He did not compromise on the fundamentals of Islam, which are infact the moving spirit of every faith. Historical facts must be interpreted in their true & objective spirit & not subjectively as expressed by the Hindu writers.

Dr. BISHAMBHAR NATH PANDES VIEW The late scholar & historian, Dr.Bishambhar Nath Pandes research efforts exploded myths on Aurangzebs rule. They also offer an excellent example of what history has to teach us if only we study it dispassionately. Mr. Pande was ranked among the very few Indians & very fewer still Hindu historians who tried to be a little careful when dealing with such history. He knew that this history was originally compiled by European writers whose main objective was to produce a history that would serve their policy of divide & rule. In his famous Khuda Bakhsh Annual Lecture (1985) Dr. Pande said: Thus under a definite policy the Indian history text books were so falsified & distorted as to give an impression that the medieval (i.e., Muslim) period of Indian history was full of atrocities committed by Muslim rulers on their Hindu subjects & the Hindus had to suffer terrible indignities under Muslim rule and there were no common factors (between Hindus & Muslims) in social, political & economic life. Therefore, Dr.Pande was extra careful. Whenever he came across a fact that looked odd to him, he would try to check & verify rather than adopt it uncritically. He came across a history text book taught in the Anglo-Bengali College, Allahabad, which claimed that three thousand Brahmins had committed suicide as Tipu wanted to convert them forcibly into the fold of Islam. The author was a very famous scholar, Dr.Har Prasad Shastri, head of the department of Sanskrit at Kolkata University. (Tipu Sultan (1750-99), who ruled over the South Indian state of Mysore (1782-99), is one of the most heroic figures in Indian history. He died on the battle field, fighting the British.) Was it true? Dr. Pande wrote immediately to the author & asked him for the source on which he had based this episode in his text-book. After several reminders, Dr. Shastri replied that he had taken this information from the Mysore gazetteer. So Dr. Pande requested the Mysore university vice- chancellor, Sir Brijendra Nath Seal, to verify for him Dr. Shastris statement from the gazetteer. Sir Brijendra referred his letter to Prof. Srikantia who was then working on a new edition of the gazetteer. Srikantia wrote to say that the gazetteer mentioned no such incident and, as a historian himself, he was certain that nothing like this had taken place. Prof. Srikantia added that both the prime minister & commander-in-chief of Tipu Sultan were themselves Brahmins. He also enclosed a list of 136 Hindu temples which used to receive annual grants from the sultans treasury. It inspired that Shastri had lifted this story from Colonel Miles, History of Mysore, which Miles claimed he had taken from a Persian manuscript in the personal library of Queen Victoria. When Dr. Pande checked further, he found that no such manuscript existed in Queen Victorias library. FALSE HISTORY PROVIDED BY BRITISHERS British historian Sir Henry Elliot remarked that Hindus had not left any account which could unable us to gauge the traumatic impact the Muslim conquest and rule had on them? Since there was none, Elliot went on to produce his own eight-volume history of India with contributions from British historians (1867). His history claimed Hindus were slain for disputing with Mohammedans, generally prohibited from worshipping and taking out religious processions , their idols were mutilated , their temples were destroyed , they were forced into conversion & marriages , & were killed & massacred by drunk Muslim tyrants. Thus Sir Henry, & scores of other empire scholars, went on to produce a synthetic Hindu verses Muslim history of India, & their lies became a history.

AURANGZEB: TRUTHS ABOUT A RULER

Lord Curzon(Governor General of India 1895-99 & Viceroy 18991904(d.1925) was told by the secretary of state for India, George Francis Hamilton , that they should so plan the educational textbooks that the differences between community & community are further strengthened. Another Viceroy, Lord Dufferin (1884-88), was advised by the secretary of state in London that the division of religious feelings is greatly to our advantage , & that he expected some good as a result of your committee of inquiry on Indian education & on teaching material . We have maintained our power in India by playing off one part against the other, the secretary of state for India reminded yet another viceroy, Lord Elgin (1862-63), & we must continue to do so. Do all you can, therefore to prevent all having a common feeling? MYTH RELATED TO DESTRUCTION OF TEMPLES Some of the Hindu historians have accused Aurangzeb of demolishing Hindu temples. How factual is this accusation against a man, who has been known to be a saintly man, a strict adherent of Islam? The Quran prohibits any Muslim to impose his will on a non-Muslim by stating that There is no compulsion in religion.(Surah al-Baqarah 2.256). The Surah al-Kafirun clearly states: To you is your religion & to me is mine. It would be totally unbecoming of a learned scholar of Islam of his caliber, as Aurangzeb was known to be, to do things that are contrary to the dictates of the Quran. Interestingly, the 1946 edition of the history textbook Etihash Parichaya (introduction to history) used in Bengal for the 5th & 6th graders states: If Aurangzeb had the intention of demolishing temples to make way for mosques, there would not have been a single temple standing erect in India. On the contrary, Aurangzeb donated huge estates for use as temple sites & support thereof in Benaras, Kashmir & elsewhere. The official documentations for these land grants are still extant. A stone inscription in the historic Balaji or Vishnu temple, located north of Chitrakut Balaghat, still shows that it was commissioned by the emperor himself. His administration made handsome donation to temple of Pandharpur seat of deity Vitthal. Historian the late D.G Godse has claimed that trustees of Vitthal temple were more worried about marauding Maratha armies than the mughal one. The proof of Aurangzebs land grant for famous Hindu religious sites in Varanasi can easily be verified from the deed records extant at those sites. The same textbook (Etihash Parichaya) reads: During the fifty year reign of Aurangzeb, not a single Hindu was forced to embrace Islam. He did not interfere with any Hindu religious activities. Alexander Hamilton, a British historian, toured India towards the end of Aurangzebs fifty years reign & observed that everyone was free to serve & worship god in his own way. The Mughal emperor Aurangzeb is the most reviled of all the Muslim rulers in India. He was supposed to be a great destroyer of temples & oppressor of Hindus, & a fundamentalist too. As chairman of the Allahabad municipality (1948-53), Dr. Bishambhar Nath Pande had to deal with a land dispute between two temple priests. One of them had filed in evidence some firmans (royal orders) to prove that Aurangzeb had, besides cash, gifted the land in question for the maintenance of his temple. Might they not be fake, Dr. Pande thought in view of Aurangzebs fanatically anti-Hindu image? He showed them to his friend, Sir Tej Bahadur Sapru, a distinguished lawyer as well a great scholar of Arabic & Persian. He was also a Brahmin. Sapru examined the documents & declared they were genuine firmans issued by Aurangzeb. For Dr.Pande this was a new image of Aurangzeb, so he wrote to the chief priests of the various important temples, all over the country, requesting photocopies of any firman issued by aurangzeb that they may have in their possession. The response was overwhelming; he received copies of firmans of Aurangzeb from the great temples of Mahakaleshwara, Ujjain, Balaji temple, Chitrakut, Umanand temple Gauhati, & the Jain temple of Shatrunjai & other temples & gurudwaras scattered over northern India. These firmans were issued from 1659 to 1685AD. Though these are only few instances of Aurangzeb generous attitude towards Hindus & their temples, they are enough to show that what the historians have written about him was biased & is only one side of the picture. India is a vast land with thousands of temples scattered all over. If proper research is made, I am confident; many more instances would come to light which will show Aurangzebs benevolent treatment of nonMuslims. Aurangzeb did not indiscriminately destroy Hindu temples, as he is commonly believed to have done so, & that he directed the destruction of temples only when faced with insurgency. This was almost certainly the case with the Keshava Rai temple in the Mathura region, where the Jats rose in rebellion & yet even this policy of reprisal may have been modified, as Hindu temples in the Deccan were seldom destroyed. The image of Aurangzeb as an idol breaker may not with stand scrutiny, since there is evidence to show that, like his predecessors, he continued to confer land grants or jagirs (large parcel of agricultural lands) upon Hindu temples, such as the Someshwar Nath Mahadev temple Allahabad, Jangum Badi Shiva temple in Varanasi, Umanand temple in Gauhati & numerous others. He did not harm to the famous Alura temples (a huge complex of Ancient temples) in his conquest of Deccan. DEMOLITION OF KASHI VISHWANATH TEMPLE Dr. Pandes research showed that Aurangzeb was as solicitous of the rights & welfare of his non-Muslim subjects as he was of his Muslim subjects. Hindu plaintiffs received full justice against their Muslims respondents &, if guilty, Muslims were given punishment as necessary. One of the greatest charges against Aurangzeb is of the demolition of Vishwanath temple in Varanasi. That was a fact, but Dr. Pande unraveled the reason for it. While Aurangzeb was passing near Varanasi on his way to Bengal, the Hindu Rajas in his retinue requested that if the halt was made for a day, their Ranis may go to Varanasi, have a dip in the Ganges & pay their homage to Lord Vishwanath. Aurangzeb readily agreed. Army pickets were posted on the five mile route to Varanasi. The Ranis made journey to the palkis. They took their dip in the Ganges & went to the Vishwanath temple to pay their homage. After offering puja (worship) all the Ranis returned except one, the Maharani of Kutch. A thorough search was made of the temple precincts but the Rani was to be found nowhere. When Aurangzeb came to know about this, he was very much enraged. He sent his senior officers to search for the Rani. Ultimately they found that statue of Ganesh (the elephant headed god) which was fixed in the wall was a moveable one. When the statue was moved, they saw a flight of stairs that led to the basement. To their horror they found the missing Rani dishonored & crying deprived of all her ornaments. The basement was just beneath Lord Vishwanaths seat. The Raja demanded salutary action, & Aurangzeb ordered that as the sacred precincts have been despoiled, Lord Vishwanath may be moved to some other place, the temple be razed to the ground & the Mahant (head priest) be arrested & punished. EMPLOYMENT FOR NON-MUSLIMS Aurangzeb has often been accused of closing the doors of official employment on the Hindus, but a study of the list of his officers shows this is not so. Actually there were more Hindu officers under him than under any other Mughal emperor. Though this was primarily due to a general increase in the number of officers, it shows that there was no ban on the employment of Hindus.

Remembrance of Ibrahim Alaihis Salams multiple Sacrifices [Eid Al-Adha and Hajj Rituals are Focused on them]
By Shakeel Ahmad <shakeeluae@gmail.com> Because of his many sacrifices, Allah made Ibrahim Alaihis Salam his friend (Khalil-Allah - friend of Allah, as in Quran 4:125). What a Unique Distinction! Let us recall those sacrifices, once again, on the auspicious occasion of Eid Al Adha and Hajj, when millions of muslims seek salvation following in the tradition of sacrifices rendered by a mighty prophet (may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), with an aim to become as emotionally intelligent as Ibrahim Alaihis Salam. 1. Facing the ire of his own father, who did not mind stoning him, (The father) replied: "Dost thou hate my gods, O Abraham? If thou forbear not, I will indeed stone thee: Now get away from me for a good long while!" (19:46) Or, throwing him into the fire, which eventually happened, as reported by Allah in Quran: They said, "Burn him and protect your gods, If ye do (anything at all)!" (21: 68) So naught was the answer of (Abraham's) people except that they said: "Slay him or burn him." (29:24), and They said, "Build him a furnace, and throw him into the blazing fire!" (37:97) The threats, or real actions of unbelievers to harm him, did not deter Ibrahim Alaihis Salam from his mission of conveying Allahs message to his people or calling them to Allahs straight path, as is evident from Quranic verses 6:74, 6:80-84, 19: 42-47 ("O my father! why worship that which heareth not and seeth not, and can profit thee nothing? ). Allah Himself says There is for you an excellent example (to follow) in Abraham and those with him (60:4) and - for those whose hope is in Allah and in the Last Day. (60:6). 2. Facing the fire, in peace, for the sake of Allah, promoting tauheed: The crowd went in all directions gathering kindling and firewood. A big pile of timber was piled, as high as could be. Hundreds of people assembled talking noisily of what Ibrahim did. Prophet Ibrahim was then tied tightly with a rope. Ibrahim was calm, not afraid, knowing that Allah (swt) will save him. He didn't even resist them, making the people quite astonished. Ibrahim was tossed to the center of the woodpile which was then set ablaze. The flames of the fire sizzled and hissed, and everyone thought Ibrahim was burning to death, inside this inferno. They noticed they did not hear Ibrahim scream, none at all, and wondered why. Ibrahim A.S.s absolute trust in the Almighty is manifest in the fact that when Jibreel A.S. asked him to pray to Allah, he reaffirmed his faith by saying Allah was seeing all of this, and he would take good care of his servant. And, Allah did just that by ordering "O fire! be thou cool, and (a means of) safety for Abraham!" (Quran, 21:69) 3. Migration for the sake of Allah: When Ibrahim A.S. realized that no one else was going to believe in his call, he decided to emigrate with his wife and Lot A.S. to a city called Ur, then to Haran, then to Palestine, and to Egypt (Quran, 29:26), calling people of all those places to tawheed, and guiding them to truth and righteousness. 4. Leaving his beloved wife and infant son in an isolated place inhabited by wild animals: Ibn Abbas narrated (more or less): When Abraham had differences with his wife (because of Sarahs jealousy of Hajar, Ismael's mother), he took Ismael A.S. and Hajar away; they had a water skin containing some water. When Abraham reached Mecca, he made her sit under a tree and started his return journey. Hajar followed him for a while asking him On whom are you leaving us behind in this desolate place where there is no habitation, nor any provisions for habitation Ibrahim A.S. kept going, without responding to her questions. She repeated that to him many times, but he did not look back at her. Finally, she asked him, "Has Allah ordered you to do so?" To this, he responded, "Yes." She then said, "Then He will not neglect us", and returned. Ibrahim A.S. was not negligent of his siblings; he was himself in great pain, but was following Allahs commands. He left his most beloved son who came to him in his old age, and a young caring wife when he needed her most. Ibrahim A.S.s love for Ismail A.S. and Hajar reflects well in his prayer to Allah, offered on reaching Thaniya where they could not see him, "O our Lord! I have made some of my offspring dwell in a valley without cultivation, by Your Sacred House (Kaba at Mecca) in order, O our Lord that they may offer prayer perfectly. So fill some hearts among men with love towards them, and O Allah provide them with fruits so that they may give thanks." (Quran, 14:37) The well-known act of Hajar to run from the hill of Safa to the hill of Marwa, and in the valley between them, in search for water for the thirsty Ismail A.S., the striking of ground by angel Jibreels feathers leading to the gushing of Zamzam water, etc, became rituals to be performed by all Hujjaj-e-karam until Qayamah, by the orders of Allah. 5. Readiness to sacrifice his own son, a son who came to him in old age (after a lot of waiting, at the fag end of his life), unfazed by the lure of shaitan (stoning him) Allah relates to us of this great trial of Ibrahim A.S. (and his righteous son): And he said after his rescue from the fire: "Verily! I am going to my Lord. He will guide me! My Lord! Grant me (offspring) from the righteous." So, We gave him the glad tidings of a forbearing boy. Then, when (the son) reached (the age of) (serious) work with him, he said: "O my son! I see in vision that I offer thee in sacrifice: Now see what is thy view!" (The son) said: "O my father! Do as thou art commanded: thou will find me, if Allah so wills one practising Patience and Constancy!", So when they had both submitted their wills (to Allah), and he had laid him prostrate on his forehead (for sacrifice), We called out to him "O Abraham! "Thou hast already fulfilled the vision!" - thus indeed do We reward those who do right. For this was obviously a trialAnd We ransomed him with a momentous sacrifice: And We left (this blessing) for him among generations (to come) in later times: "Peace and salutation to Abraham!" [37:99-109] 6. Actually performing the final act of slaying his most beloved son, in submission to the Amightys call: The final act of sacrifice, as described in Quran (37:99-109), occurred on the tenth of Dhul Hijja, when Ibrahim A.S. performed an act of sacrifice which Allah termed as momentous - not known from anyone else. This great example of sacrifice for the sake of Allah endeared Allah so much that he declared We left (this blessing) for him among generations (to come) in later times: "Peace and salutation to Abraham!" [37:108-9] Thus the Almighty Allah made this a ritual (Eid Al-Adha) for the believers to perform, so that they could recall the greatness of Ibrahim A.S.s pinnacle of obedience. Say: "Verily, my Lord hath guided me to a way that is straight,- a religion of right,- the path (trod) by Abraham the true in Faith, and he (certainly) joined not gods with Allah." [Quran, 6

Bakht Khan: The Winner Of A Lost Battle

Part I
First published on TCN as independence special
regarded as unIslamic, and longed instead for a properly Islamic regime. [4] He cites his Wahabist thoughts to be a cause of his failure. Interestingly ,Bakht Khan fought under a king who was the embodiment of everything a true Wahabi abhors. What is astonishing is that in almost every account about the man, his being a Wahabi is essentially stressed, perhaps to draw attention to his real or imagined fanaticism. Some of the e a r l i e r prominent r ev o l u t i o n a r y figures like Syed A h m e d Shaheed and S h a h IsmaeelShahee d were selfproclaimed Wahabis. Lets see what Bakht K h a n s Wahabism was like. His Wahabism was said to have been inspired by his spiritual mentor, MoulviSrafaraz Ali, a master teacher of Algebra and Geometry and with a thorough knowledge of Tafseer[Quranic interpretations] and Hadeeth [Prophet Muhammads sayings]. MoulviSarfaraz Ali was entitled as Imam of Mujahideen and his orations exhorted people to join this revolution. It was he who had motivated his initially reluctant disciple Bakht Khan to join this momentous struggle. In the pre- revolution time, MoulviSarfaraz Ali was regarded as one of the brightest jewels in Delhis intellectual crown, by no less than Sir Sayyed Ahmad Khan himself. So it was MoulviSarfaraz Ali who urged Bakht Khan to fight against the infidel Christians for the honor of his country. Interestingly this accusation of his being a Wahabi also betrays probable renaissance Islamic nature of the revolution of 1857. Being a Wahabi, Bakht Khan was against the veneration of Sufi shrines, which was/is quite a rampant practice among a large section of the Indian Muslims. The Wahabis disapprove of it as being nearer to idol worship and a tendency picked up from their Hindu brothers. What is important to be noted and not to be overlooked is; this Wahabism of Bakht Khan and his mentor MoulviSarfaraz Ali was borrowed not from Abdul WahabNajdi of Saudi Arab but from Shah WaliullahMuhaddithDehalvi [17031762], the father of Islamic reform movement in India. This reform movement aimed at eliminating all non-Islamic innovations and practices from the religion and restoring a strict Islamic monotheism, among Indian Muslims. Shah Waliullah, was the first one to translate Quran into Persian and anticipated many modern, social, economic and political thoughts, such as social reform, equal rights, labour protection, and welfare entitlement of all. *AsmaAnjum Khan is Assistant Professor of English in Maharashtra By Asma Khan*, Chief Editor, BaKhabar Second of July 1857, a hot humid day some one hundred and fiftyfive summers ago, a contingent of about 250 men in their Bareilly regiment uniforms arrives in Dilli of the time, the world renowned Red Fort to be precise. Mounted on their horses, they march past the Laal Purdah [1][entrance to the private chambers of the last Mughal King]. The General of the regiment marches too albeit without the customary bowing down of his head; much to the outrage of those present at the court. But what happens next would seem rather more sacrilegious. That unbending commander of the arriving regiment, a tall and corpulent man of Rohilla stock appears least caring about the sensation he creates and the protest that comes his way, he moves forward and salaams the King as if he is an equal.[2] But the King, Zille Subhaani, KhaleefaturRehmani, Khudawand e Majaazi, HazratAbulZafarSirajuddinBahadur Shah Zafar is helpless. The man in the eye of this little storm was General Bakht Khan, Commander of the Neemuch brigade, of the Army of East India Company, among the true heroes of 1857, who had arrived to make a fight against the Company which till now he had served. General Bakht Khan's bust in Red Fort museum. He was described as a much garlanded and battle hardened veteran of Afghan wars, with huge handlebar moustache and sprouting sideburns. Known personally to several of the British officers [3] His reputation as an able administrator and a shrewd military strategist had reached Delhi much before his arrival. The poor Mughal King, after much reluctance, decides to award the just landed General ,a royal sword and a buckle but Bakht Khan still refuses to present the nazar (a mandatory monetary gift to be offered to the King) when meeting him. Soon after, this Khan then begins to give a piece of his mind to the king, he begins, Your good for nothing princes [sons] enjoy full powers over your military. Give all the power to me as no one else but I know the norms of the English army, who knows them better than me? This was blunt and undiplomatic at its best, but the man in question, meant business. He was duly appointed the Governor General of the army, effectively displacing Mirza Mughal the headstrong son of Zafar. Reading literature about 1857 revolution became quite an obsession with me since a teenager, our shared history of the subcontinent, India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. A familiar heritage we possess, a common thread running through our past. History is journalism with hindsight and this special journalism about 1857 period transports us to a novel world inducing in us a sense of dj vu. It was through these readings that I discovered,/em> Bakht Khan. But it was not love at first sight; I must tell you, what with his being a man with a pot belly that did not make him a fine horseman! Add to it the derision he was subjected to contemptuously for the reason of his being a Wahabi. But more surprising were the contradictions that I began noticing in various descriptions about him. A few, mostly historians from the east, respected him as one of the bravest soldiers and the real hero of 1857 Ghadar while the rest seem to scorn him just for being a Wahabi. This term in itself is quite controversial, even today, just as it was in those days. Wahabism is the name given to Islamic philosophy instituted by Muhammad ibn Abdul WahabNajdi[1703-1792] in 7th Century Arabia; the intention was to practice Islam it in its purity just as Prophet Muhommad (peace be upon him) did. William Dalrymple elaborates General Bakht Khans Wahabism thus, Like a Wahabi , he says, Bakht Khan disdained earthly rulers, whom he

Modernization of madarsa: need for methodology corrective

Education rates among the highest concerns of Muslims in the world. We should learn from others, complying with the words of the Prophet (Sallallahu alaihe wasallam): Seek knowledge even, if it is to be found in a place as distant as, China, the role of education has been central in any Islamic principle from the very beginning. The word "madarsa" comes from the same Arabic root as "dars" which means a lesson or a lecture. Madrasa, as traditionally constructed in Islam, is an institution where any one of the four schools of religion in Islam - the madhhab along with Arabic grammar, the traditions of the Prophet -hadith, history, literature, rhetoric, mathematics, and astronomy are taught. They emerged in the early tenth century in Iran although we have reports as early as 'Abdul Malik (c.685-705) of Quranic teachings done in two types of settings. The first was the maktab which was geared towards the illiterate and primarily to teach the Qur'an. This was done anywhere - private house, shop etc. presided over by an alim. The second was the majlis , which rose out of a gathering of scholars in the mosque and was dedicated to more specialized study. The establishment of the current model of the madarsa can be traced to Nizam ul Mulk (c.1018 92), the Grand Vizier under two Seljuk Sultans. He wrote the influential Siyasat Namah - The Book of Government and founded a series of madarsas all over Iraq and Khurusan (Iran). The biggest of them was the Nazimiya in Baghdad (c.1065). In his book, as in the establishment of these madarsas, Nizam ul Mulk sought to train a cadre of intellectuals and theologians that would guide the Sultans in their governance over the Muslim lands. Nizam ul Mulk's reforms instituted a state-funded (through waqf - land endowment) institute of higher learning that was responsible for creating new elite. The British in India were responsible for both the diminution of the syllabi of madarsas as well as their spread as a counter-British institution. After the 1857 war, the language of the courts was shifted from Persian to English. The Muslim elites who were trained at home and in madrasas in the "classical" subjects were loathe to join the English grammar schools. While people like Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, argued for a modernization of the Islamic knowledge systems and founded a school which is now known in the World as Aligarh Muslim University. Others like Thanawi, Maududi, Nanotovi etc. opted for enshrining Arabic and the Qur'an at the heart of any system of Muslim knowledge in India. The effect was the growth of two separate strains of Muslim thought in India. In precolonial India, the 'alim had to know fiqh, history, sciences, archery etc. to be an effective administrator or jurist, but the colonial counterpart needed only English language and English Law. As a result, the curriculums in the madarsas deteriorated down to just religious law. The service rendered by madarsas to the country and the Muslim community is an established fact. In India these madarsas have played an important role in protecting human, Islamic and social values. These institutes have also played an important role in survival of Islamic practices, dissemination and publication of Islamic literature, protection of Islamic faith and development of Islamic culture and civilization, besides contributing in the development of the country. These invaluable services rendered by Islamic madarsas cannot be forgotten. Kids were sent to madarsas in their earliest age to learn to read the Qur'an and other religious rituals. A minority, only those pursuing a religious living, went on to studying fiqh etc. and the rest went to public or private secular schools. The madarsas existed not in competition with secular Urdu, Hindi or English medium schools but as optional supplements. The main problem in the system is with 'Islamic education' which simply juxtaposes 'religious' subjects with 'secular or modern' subjects. In 1986, the Indian government initiated a project to modernize madarsa by bringing in subjects like science, math, English, and Hindi. But many madarsas refused to cooperate, wary of the state's interference. Their Hindu equivalent, the Sanskrit schools, has been gradually folded into the state education system. The government has

continued its efforts, with limited success, but in 2002 it drew criticism from Muslims when a secret memorandum came to light in which all state education officials were ordered to ensure that madarsas applying for government funding "are not indulging, abetting, or in any other way linked with anti-national activities." The Union government's madarsa modernization scheme has enabled students from various parts of the country to seek jobs of their choice, says Firoz Bakht Ahmed, the grandnephew of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, better known for his own writings on minority issues and madarsa education. The agenda for reforming the madarsas has, unfortunately, today come to be linked with the question of countering 'terrorism'. Yoginder Sikand in one of his writings focused on efforts being made today by 'ulama and Muslim activists in India to introduce modern subjects in the curriculum, excise subjects and books that are considered irrelevant and introduce reforms in teaching methods. Sikand looked at the ways in which this demand for reform is formulated and legitimated, such as reviving a holistic understanding of knowledge in Islam, doing away with educational dualism, widening employment opportunities for the 'ulama and empowering the Muslim community. The menace of growing educational backwardness through madarsas that everybody is afraid of can be curbed only by providing a progressive, modern alternative with a promising future for the younger generations, writes Arjumand Ara, a teaching faculty at Delhi University. "We are not going to compromise on the content and structure of Islamic education but certainly welcome any initiative by the government to upgrade the curriculum to have modern education in madarsa system," Maulana Mohammad Wali Rahmani, a well reputed Islamic scholar and the Director of Khanqah Rahmania Munger, Bihar said. It is a well-known fact and one can believe that nothing was ever wrong with the madarsas in India. A well thought statement by Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in Washington DC recently remove all the doubts on the credibility of madarsa when he said, "we have 150 million citizens who practice the faith of Islam. And I say it with some pride about their patriotism that not one of them has joined the ranks of these gangs like the Al Qaeda or other terrorist activities". I visited Khanqah Rahmania Munger, a well-established Islamic seminary in Bihar, I have seen the students besides religious education they were also getting the computer education and comfortably surfing the net. "We have computers, we have books in English, we have students who can converse in English but not militants. The allegation about Madarsa that they produce millitants is completely baseless," said Maulana Rahmani, a supporter of modernization process. "We are more open and have nothing to hide from anyone. If anyone has doubt, is more than welcome to come and have a look", said Maulana Khalid Saifullah, principal of Madarsa Ashrafiya, Saharsa. Demands for the 'modernization' of the madarsa system are today being voiced from many quarters, including from several ulema associated with the madarsa themselves. The voices of ulama advocates of reform are particularly significant, in that they are influential in moulding the opinions and policies of principals of the madarsas, which outside critics are not. It is really time, that when we think of introducing Modern Education into the Madarsas, we should also look at the existing syllabi and incorporate the modern and technical subjects. The madarsa need trained modern teacher, modern subjects (science, computer and humanities) and certainly a modern well structured curriculum along with its own religious contents. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------*M J WARSI holds a doctorate in Linguistics and teaches at Washington University in St. Louis, USA.
