Instrumentation
11
Instrumentation is defined as the science of measurement and control of process variables. An instrument is a device that measures and/or regulates physical quantity/process variables such as flow, temperature, level, or pressure.
Instrumentation

Measurement is the activity of obtaining and comparing physical quantities of real-world objects and events. Established standard objects and events are used as units, and the process of measurement gives a number relating the item under study and the referenced unit of measurement.

Control System
16
A control system is a device, or set of devices to manage, command, direct or regulate the behavior of other device(s) or system(s).
There are two common classes of control systems: logic or sequential controls feedback or linear controls.

Control System
17
An automatic sequential control system may trigger a series of mechanical actuators in the correct sequence to perform a task. For example various electric and pneumatic transducers may fold and glue a cardboard box, fill it with product and then seal it in an automatic packaging machine.
In the case of linear feedback systems, a control loop, including sensors, control algorithms and actuators, is arranged in such a fashion as to try to regulate a variable at a set point or reference value. An example of this may increase the fuel supply to a furnace when a measured temperature drops.

A thermostat is a component of a control system which senses the temperature of a system so that the system's temperature is maintained near a desired set point.
The thermostat does this by switching heating or cooling devices on or off, or regulating the flow of a heat transfer fluid as needed, to maintain the correct temperature. Thermostats can be constructed in many ways and may use a variety of sensors to measure the temperature. The output of the sensor then controls the heating or cooling apparatus.
