Take x' and y' axes as reference axes:

FRx' = F3 cos 30 + F2 cos 75 + F1 cos

FRx' = 200 cos 30 + 450 cos 75 + F1 cos FRx' = 290 + F1 cos FR = FRx' 290 + F1 cos = 1000 F1 cos = 710 (1)

MA = - 40 * Sin MA =80(4 sin

* (8) 40 * cos + cos ) - sin ) - cos )

( 1) (2)

|dMA/d | = 80(4 cos

MA = 80( - 4 sin

(3)

(a) The maximum moment about point A when dMA/d = 0 80(4 cos - sin ) = 0 tan = 4 = 76 OR = 76 o + 180 o = 256 (refused) MA = - 80( 4 sin 76 o + cos 76 o) = - 329.8 < 0 So, the moment is maximum MA max = 330 N.m = 330 N.m

(b) The minimum moment about point A is when MA = 0 - 40 * sin * (8) 40 * cos * (2)= 0 4 * sin + cos = 0 tan = - 0.25 = 180 14 = 166 Alternative Solution : If the moment about (A) IS TO BE ZERO , the force F must pass through the point (A) , so : tan = 2/8 = 0.25 , = 14o ,
