THE LIFE OF CHRIST The blood line - From Eden to Abraham PT#1 SLIDE #1

we began this study last week in Gen. 1 in the garden. we saw how sin entered the human race and we saw the great promise of God. Genesis 3:15 And I will put Enmity ( hostility, Hatred ) between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed ( virgin birth ) He ( messiah ) will bruise your head, and you ( Satan ) shall bruise His heel ... SLIDE #2

Adam and Eve Fell we began following this promise. this bloodline to the Hope.. JESUS. this "blood line" follows all the way through the bible. why do we have list after lists on Geologies ? we are following a line to Messiah, that had to be from the blood line of Abraham, David and on. no other person could fill this roll. one of this things that was saw last time was that this is a book of prophecy.. SLIDE #3

how does this work .. we must understand that God is not bound by time.. GOD IS NOT BOUND BY TIME SLIDE #4

we always thing of time a linear we are in this little window of time right now.. but God is not bound by time.. Isaiah 57:15 "...the high and lofty one, who inhabits eternity." Revelation 1:8 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, says the Lord, who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty. ( Psalm 90:2; 93:2, Prov. 8:23 and on it goes ) Alpha and Omega - the first and last letter of the Greek alphabet. he is the all in all. if is the first and last, author and finisher of our faith capstone and cornerstone. he is the one who is and was and is to come - ALL AT THE SAME TIME.. The beginning and the ending refers to the eternity of the Son and His immutability. Concerning this, Hebrews 13:8 says, Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to-day, and for ever. When it says that He is the same, it does not mean that He is walking over yonder by the Sea of Galilee today. He is not. But it means that in His attributes He is the same. He has not changed. He is immutable. Since He is the beginning and the ending, He encompasses all time and eternity. Saith the Lord is an affirmation of the deity of the Lord Jesus Christ. Which is, that is, at the present time, He is the glorified Christ. Which waspast time, the first coming of Christ as Savior.

Which is to comefuture time, the second coming of Christ as the Sovereign over this earth.1 God is an infinite circle whose center is everywhere and whose circumference is nowhere. Augustine of Hippo2 God is not bound by time.. he sees the beginning from the end..3 ------------------------------------------------with this said now . GOD has made himself known all the way along.. every book of the bible points to Jesus, every sacrifice, every feast day , prophecy after prophecy point to JESUS..

There is prophecy after prophecy that point to Jesus. in Josh McDowell's book "new evidence that demands a verdict" he has 61 crisp concise prophecies that Jesus fulfilled. McDowell has also added explanations for each one.5 What is the probability that one single individual since the beginning of time could fulfill just eight of the following conditions? how prophecy works understand that if I say its going to rain tomorrow we have a %30 chance of rain depending on the weather, what if I add , its going to rain tomorrow just in Sandy , chances get slimmer, its going to rain tomorrow in sandy between 2-4, each time I add a detail the chances get smaller and smaller.. now lets take just 8 of these prophecies. 1. Come from Bethlehem: 1 in 10,000 (my estimate) 2. A messenger will prepare the way for him and then the Lord will come to His Temple: 1 in 1,000 (my estimate) 3. Ride on a donkey into Jerusalem and be declared as a righteous king having salvation: 1 in 10,000 (my estimate) 4. Betrayed for 30 pieces of silver: 1 in 1,000
5

New Evidence - Pg 168-192

5. Silver returned, thrown into the Temple and used for the Potters field: 1 in 100,000 6. No defense though innocent: 1 in 1,000 7. Crucified (predicted before it was invented): 1 in 10,000 8. Bones not broken: 1 in 100 (my estimate) 6 If you multiplied this out it would be 1 in 10 to the 28th power. To be fair, this could have been fulfilled by anyone who has lived since the time of these prophecies which would include 8.8 billion people. (Of course the Temple must be standing, so we could slice 2/3 of history off this exponential number if we wanted to, but we wont.) Therefore the odds of these eight prophecies happening by chance to one particular man within that time frame is found by dividing 10 to the 28th power by 10 to the 10th power, which gives us 10 to the 18th power. How big a number is that? Lets take a silver dollar. Ill use the one that I carry in my pocket at all times. I actually use it for witnessing to unbelievers concerning the amazing power of our God. In fact I use this exact example in my story to them. This example originally came from Peter W. Stoner, Science Speaks7. So lets look at that huge number that is required in order to make eight of these prophesies come to pass in one man since the beginning of time up until today. Lets pretend that you had 10 to 18th power silver dollars. Do you know how many that is? It is enough to fill an area two feet deep. Now the question is; how big of an area? How about the size of your church? If we filled your church two feet deep in silver dollars is that large enough to hold these silver dollars? Nope! How about the size of your city? I dont even care what city you live in, if we filled your city two feet deep in silver dollars, would it be large enough to hold 10 to the 18th power silver dollars? Nope, but I bet the city folks would love to see it though. How about the county that you live in? Is that big enough to hold the number that we are talking about? Nope. We would need to take the whole state of Texas and cover it with silver dollars to a depth of two feet. How big is Texas? You would have to add together the sizes of Ohio, Indiana, all of New England as well as all the Middle Atlantic states combined. Finally we would have a big enough area to hold that quantity. This area is 268,581 square miles and remember that it is filled two feet deep with silver dollars. That is an unbelievable amount of silver dollars. Now stick with me, because we arent done yet. The next step is to make one of them gold plated, drop it by helicopter somewhere in the state of Texas and then mix all of the silver dollars up thoroughly. Finally we would need to take a blindfolded man or women, or better yet a monkey, since the evolutionists think thats where they came from, and let the blindfolded monkey go anywhere in the state and pick up one coin. The likelihood of that monkey picking up that gold plated silver dollar on the first try is the same as the

odds of these eight prophecies coming true in one man without divine intervention. If our blindfolded monkey did that, then Ill be a monkeys uncle. But since its not going to happen, Ill stand firmly as a son of God. SLIDE #7

Genesis 4:1
Now Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore Cain, and said, "I have gotten a man from the Lord.'' The Hebrew literally reads "I have gotten a man/Yahweh" so Eve thought that this was the child to crush the head of Satan however the birth of Messiah was yet future and was fulfilled through the birth of Mary prophesied by Isaiah the prophet.

This reveals the fact that Adam and Eve certainly did not anticipate that the struggle was
going to be long. When Cain was born, Eve must have said, I have gotten the man from

the Lord. God said that the seed of the woman would bruise the head of the serpentand here he is! But Cain was not the one. He was a murderer, he was no savior at all. It will be a long time before the Savior comes. For a minimum of six thousand yearsand I think it has been longer than thatthe struggle has been going on between the seed of the woman and the seed of the serpent.8 I have gotten a man from the Lord, said Eve, or literally, I have gotten a man, even the Lord. In naming her firstborn son, Cain, or acquired, it is clear Eve believed he was the Seed promised to her in Genesis 3:15, the Promised One, the Messiah.9 SLIDE #10-#22

A Study of Original Roots

The meaning of proper names can be a difficult pursuit since a direct translation is often not readily available. Even a conventional Hebrew lexicon can prove disappointing. A study of the original roots, however, can yield some fascinating insights. (A caveat: many study aids, such as a conventional lexicon, can prove rather superficial when dealing with proper nouns. Furthermore, views concerning the meanings of original roots are not free of controversy and variant readings.)

The Flood Judgment

McGee, J. V. (1997). Thru the Bible commentary (electronic ed.). Nashville: Thomas Nelson. 9 Courson, J. (2005). Jon Courson's application commentary : Volume one : Genesis-Job (18). Nashville, TN: Thomas Nelson. 8

Methuselah comes from muth, a root that means "death";10and from shalach, which means to bring, or to send forth. The name Methuselah means, "his death shall bring".11 Methuselah's father was given a prophecy of the coming Great Flood, and was apparently told that as long as his son was alive, the judgment of the flood would be withheld; but as soon as he died, the flood would be brought or sent forth. (Can you imagine raising a kid like that? Every time the boy caught a cold, the entire neighborhood must have panicked!) And, indeed, the year that Methuselah died, the flood came.12 It is interesting that Methuselah's life, in effect, was a symbol of God's mercy in forestalling the coming judgment of the flood. Therefore, it is fitting that his lifetime is the oldest in the Bible, speaking of the extensiveness of God's mercy.

The Other Names

If there is such significance in Methuselah's name, let's examine the other names to see what may lie behind them. Adam's name means man. As the first man, that seems straight forward enough.

Seth
Adam's son was named Seth, which means appointed. Eve said, "For God hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew."13

Enosh
Seth's son was called Enosh, which means mortal, frail, or miserable. It is from the root anash, to be incurable, used of a wound, grief, woe, sickness, or wickedness. It was in the days of Enosh that men began to defile the name of the Living God.14

Muth, death, occurs 125 times in the Old Testament. See Pink, Arthur W., Gleanings in Genesis, Moody Bible Institute, Chicago IL, 1922., Jones, Alfred, Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names, Kregel Publications, Grand Rapids MI, 1990., Stedman, Ray C., The Beginnings, Word Books, Waco TX, 1978. 12 Methuselah was 187 when he had Lamech, and lived 782 years more. Lamech had Noah when he was 182 (Genesis 5:25-28). The Flood came in Noah's 600th year (Genesis 7:6, 11). 600 + 182 = 782nd year of Lamech, the year Methuselah died. Genesis 4:25.

10

Genesis 4:25.

Kenan
Enosh's son was named Kenan, which can mean sorrow, dirge, or elegy. (The precise denotation is somewhat elusive; some study aids unfortunately presume that Kenan is synonymous with Cainan.) Balaam, looking down from the heights of Moab, uses a pun upon the name of the Kenites when he prophesies their destruction.15 We have no real idea as to why these names were chosen for their children. Often they may have referred to circumstances at birth, and so on.

Mahalalel
Kenan's son was Mahalalel, from Mahalal which means blessed or praise; and El, the name for God. Thus, Mahalalel means the Blessed God. Often Hebrew names include El, the name of God, as Dan-i-el, "God is my Judge", etc.

Jared
Mahalalel's son was named Jared, from the verb yaradh, meaning shall come down.16

Enoch
Jared's son was named Enoch, which means teaching, or commencement. He was the first of four generations of preachers. In fact, the earliest recorded prophecy was by Enoch, which amazingly enough deals with the Second Coming of Christ (although it is quoted in the Book of Jude in the New Testament): Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, "Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against." Jude 14, 15

14

Genesis 4:26 is often mistranslated. Targum of Onkelos: ...desisted from praying in the name ; Targum of Jonathan: surnamed their idols in the name... ; Kimchi, Rashi, and other ancient Jewish commentators agree. Jerome indicated that this was the opinion of many Jews of his day. Maimonides, Commentary on the Mishna (a constituent part of the Talmud), a.d. 1168, ascribes the origin of idolatry to the days of Enosh. 15 Numbers 24:21, 23. 16 Some authorities suggest that this might be an allusion to the Sons of God who came down to corrupt the daughters of men, resulting in the Nephilim (Fallen Ones) of Genesis 6.

10

Methuselah
Enoch was the father of Methuselah, who we have already mentioned. Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah.17 Apparently, Enoch received the prophecy of the Great Flood, and was told that as long as his son was alive, the judgment of the flood would be withheld. The year that Methuselah died, the flood came. Enoch, of course, never died: he was translated 18(or, if you'll excuse the expression, raptured ). That s how Methuselah can be the oldest man in the Bible, yet he died before his father!

Lamech
Methuselah's son was named Lamech, a root still evident today in our own English word, lament or lamentation. Lamech suggests despairing. (This name is also linked to the Lamech in Cain's line who inadvertently killed his son Tubal-Cain in a hunting incident19

Noah
Lamech, of course, is the father of Noah, which is derived from nacham, to bring relief or comfort, as Lamech himself explains in Genesis 5:29. That's rather remarkable:

Man (is) appointed mortal sorrow; (but) the Blessed God shall come down teaching (that) His death shall bring (the) despairing rest.

we will talk more about this when we get to the Genealogy of JESUS SLIDE #24

this takes us to the flood.. ( not used for sake of time )

LONGEVITY OF LIFE ..... The lives of the patriarchs over lapped:Adam died when Methuselah was 243 years. Methuselah died when Shem was 98 years. Shem died when Abraham was 150 years. You can cover the first 2157 men of history by 3 men Adam, Methuselah and Shem. How much can you learn in 950 years.. the wisdom of pre-flood inventions of the era were probably much greater than we can imagine. Noah had 6 living ancestors that could have know Adam personally The point of the illustration: For 243 years Methuselah was taught by Adam who personally walked with God and knew Gods plan for the ages. For 600 years Methuselah took this knowledge and passed it down to Noah. Noah had a godly heritage of people who had remained faithful to God and in passing the Word of God on to the next generation, starting with the First Adam until the judgment of the World. 12

Jesus said in Matthew 19:4 and Mark 10:6 that the Creation of Adam and Eve was The Beginning .. it becomes obvious that the bible teaches that Adam was created about 6,000 year ago not billions of year ago as the textbooks and even some Christians now teach.

first use.. GRACE - NOAH FOUND GRACE IN THE LORD.. GEN. 6:8 again God is setting up a plan..
Noah's Ark and Jesus' Resurrection.

It appears that Noah's ark rested on Mount Ararat on Nisan 17, the day Jesus returned to life. Here are the scriptures that indicate that this is true. Also the fountains of the deep and the floodgates of the sky were closed, and the rain from the sky was restrained; and the water receded steadily from the earth, and at the end of one hundred and fifty days the water decreased. In the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, the ark rested upon the mountains of Ararat. (NASB) Gen. 8:2-4 Here we discover that the ark rested on the mountain on the seventeenth day of the seventh month in the Jewish calendar. By comparing Exodus 12:2 to Exodus 13:4 we find God changed the Jewish calendar and made Abib the first month of their calendar year. Now the LORD said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, This month shall be the beginning of months for you; it is to be the first month of the year to you. Speak to all the congregation of Israel, saying, On the tenth of this month they are each one to take a lamb for themselves, according to their fathers households, a lamb for each household.'" (NASB) Ex. 12:1-3

13

In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at evening, you shall eat unleavened bread, until the twenty-first day of the month at evening. On this day in the month of Abib, you are about to go forth. (NASB) Ex. 12:18-19 Now it is important to note that Abib was the seventh month of the Jewish calendar.20 If the Jewish calendar was unchanged from the time of Noah to the time of Moses, then Abib would be the month in which Noah's ark rested on Mount Ararat. Then by comparing Exodus 12:2 to Esther 3:7 we find that the name of the first month was later changed from Abib to Nisan, the first month of the Jewish year. In the first month, which is the month Nisan, in the twelfth year of King Ahasuerus, Pur, that is the lot, was cast before Haman from day to day and from month to month, until the twelfth month, that is the month Adar. (NASB) Esther 3:7 Now if we compare Exodus 12:18-19 with Esther 3:7 we discover that Nisan 14 is the day on which God had commanded the Israelites to celebrate the Passover. SLIDE #25

TOWER OF BABEL - BABEL (Bay' behl) Babel is a Hebrew word meaning "confusion," derived from a root which means "to mix." It was the name given to the city which the disobedient descendants of Noah built so they would not be scattered over all the earth (Gen. 11:4,9). Babel is also the Hebrew word for Babylon. The tower and the city which were built were intended to be a monument of human pride, for they sought to "make a name" for themselves (Gen. 11:4). It was also a monument to mankind's continued disobedience. They had been commanded to fill up the earth but were seeking to avoid being scattered abroad (Gen. 9:1; 11:4). Further, it was a monument to human engineering skills, for the techniques of its building described the use of fired clay bricks as a substitute for stone. Bitumen, found in relative abundance in the Mesopotamian Valley, was used to bind the bricks together. Ruins of numerous temple-towers, called ziggurats, have been found in the region of Babylon. It is possible that ruins of the great temple-tower to Marduk found in the center

of ancient Babylon is the focus of this narrative. We possess descriptions of this tower, recorded by ancient historians, as it stood undamaged and unravaged by time. To bring the people's monumental task to an end, God confused their language. The inspired writer apparently considered this to be the basis for the origin of the different human languages. When the builders were no longer able to communicate with each other, they then fled from one another in fear. The city of Babylon became to the Old Testament writers the symbol of utter rebellion against God and remained so even into the New Testament (Rev. 17:1-5). SLIDE #26
