6.1.2.1 Stator coils Shall be carried out on individual coils after winding into the stator core with the coils fully wedged and braced. Should any coil fail during testing in the core then the coil shall be replaced and tested, along with any other coil disturbed during replacement. The test shall be based on the monitoring of the response of the coil to an injected high frequency damped oscillating voltage, the rate of rise of voltage and the peak value of the injected voltage being such as to produce a voltage distribution within the test coil whereby a substantially equal stress between successive turns is achieved. Each coil shall be subjected to at least 5 pulses of injected voltage. The test apparatus shall be set for each design of coil to give the values below.

The total peak voltage (Up) applied to a coil shall not exceed the value given by the formula Up(peak) = 0,5(4 Un + 5000) Where Up equals applied volts and Un equals machine rated line volts. Where the high frequency voltage cannot be applied because of the nature of the windings, an RMS test voltage at 50 Hz corresponding to the peak levels indicated below shall be applied between turns for a period of 3 seconds.
Motor Rated Line RMS Volts 3300 6600 11000 Test Voltage 50 Hz RMS Volts 2100 3200 4700

In the case of coils with transposed conductors the insulation between each pair of laminations/sub contractors shall be tested at 220 volts RMS 50 Hz for 10 seconds. 6.1.2.2 Rotor coils Where two or more rotor bars in one coil are separately insulated (i.e. not connected together), all coils shall be subjected to a test of 2 times phase to phase open circuit rotor volts for a period of 10 seconds after winding into the rotor core with the coils fully wedged and braced.

NEMA WP Type II (IC01) systems hall be in accordance with the following: A weather protected Type II machine shall be a guarded machine with its ventilation passages so constructed as to minimise the entrance of rain, snow and air-borne particles to the electrical parts. In addition its ventilation passages at both intake and discharge shall be so arranged that high velocity air and air-borne particles blown into the machine by storms or high winds can be discharged without entering the internal ventilation passages leading directly to the electric parts of the machine itself. The normal path of the ventilating air which enters the electric parts of the machine shall be so arranged by baffling or separate housings as to provide at least three abrupt changes in direction, none of which shall be less than 90 degrees. In addition, an area of low velocity not exceeding 600 feet per minute shall be provided in the intake air path to minimize the possibility of moisture or dirt being carried into the electric parts of the machine. Removable or otherwise easy to clean filters may be provided instead of the low velocity chamber.
