Bonnie and Clyde guns sell for $504K at auction

NASHUA, N.H. Two guns once in the possession of notorious gangsters Bonnie and Clyde when they were killed in a hail of gunfire have sold at a New Hampshire auction for more than half a million dollars. The guns were two of 134 artifacts that sold Sunday for a total of $1.1 million at the auction in Nashua (NASH'-wuh). About two-thirds of the items were from Clyde Barrow and Bonnie Parker. Items also came from other notorious criminals. Bonnie Parker's .38-caliber Detective Special that she had taped

to her thigh when she was killed in 1934 in Louisiana drew the highest bid and sold for $264,000. Clyde Barrow's 1911 Colt .45-caliber automatic sold for $240,000 to the same bidder

Bond auction. . . Daniel Craig's swim shorts up for grabs

Props, costumes and memorabilia from 50 years of James Bond films went up for auction in London with an Aston Martin car and a pair of Daniel Craigs swimming trunks among the lots. Christies auction house expects the tight sky-blue shorts which left some fans shaken and stirred when the current 007 wore them his 2006 debut, Casino Royale to fetch up to ($8,000). Other lots in the auction include an Aston Martin DBS, used by Craig in a car chase through Italy in Quantum of Solace, which is expected to fetch up to $200,000. There were items from every single Bond film among the 50 lots celebrating a half-century of the glamorous British spy. Other items include the tarot cards used by Jane Seymours character Solitaire in Live And Let Die, a fake ice table seen in Die Another Day, and costumes worn by Bond stars from Timothy Dalton to Pierce Brosnan. The newest Bond film, Skyfall, is due for release in Britain and Ireland on October 26 and the U.S. and Canada on November 9. Directed by Oscar winner Sam Mendes, it sees Craig play the secret agent for a third time, opposite Spanish actor Javier Bardem as the villain. Judi Dench returns as 007s no-nonsense boss M, while Berenice Marlohe and Naomie Harris star as the Bond girls.

Ingredients 4 (3/4 inch) thick pork chops 1 teaspoon vegetable oil 2 tablespoons brown sugar salt and pepper to taste 1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg 2 tablespoons unsalted butter 2 tart apples - peeled, cored and sliced 3 tablespoons pecans Directions Preheat oven to 175 degrees F (80 degrees C). Antique vending machine hits the sweet spot at Auction

DENVER, Pa. An all-original antique vending machine that dispensed both Stollwerck Chocolate and Chiclets chewing gum topped the 1,100-lot lineup at Morphy Auctions sale of antique advertising and mechanical m u s i c . Adorned with beautiful porcelain panels on its front and sides, the near-mint machine handily surpassed its $ 1 0 , 0 0 0 $15,000 estimate to serve up a winning bid of $28,000. In all, the auction a c h i e v e d $756,000 inclusive of 20% buyers premium. Soda pop advertising m a d e a strong statement in the sales top 10, with a scarce 1920s Coca-Cola bottle-shape lamp earning an above-estimate $12,000. The red, white and green 20-inch-tall lamp was a line-for-line scale model of a Coke bottle, complete with metal cap and the trademark and registration notice below the flowing-script logo. Two figural metal school crossing signs promoting soft drinks were among the top 10 lots. A rare 1955 sign depicting a policeman holding a Slow School Zone paddle served as an eye-catching advertisement for 7UP. Estimated at $4,000-$6,000, it was bid to $9,000. Similarly estimated and also realizing $9,000 was a rare Pepsi-Cola patrol boy school crossing sign with a base designed as a Pepsi bottle cap. A selection of antique occupational shaving mugs was offered, with one lot, in particular, producing an unexpectedly fine result. In near-mint condition, a mug with an image of a man pushing a street cleaners cart with shovel inspired collectors to bypass the $600$900 estimate and chase the rarity to an astonishing $11,400. The auction was highlighted by music machines and other coin ops. A visually appealing Rol-A-Top 10-cent twin jackpot machine adorned with repousse cherries on its front panel led the offer ing. An older restoration, it sold within estimate for $6,000. The auction also included more than 80 apothecary antiques from a Philadelphia pharmacy that closed many years ago. An extremely rare 15-inch teardrop apothecary jar with Greek key motif, described in the auction catalog as being in mint condition, easily surpassed its $2,500$4,000 estimate to sell for $5,700.
