Did you know every day in Australia; about 48 women are told they have breast or gynaecological cancer?

I have been asked to put together a little something to explain why I started this journey to raise funds for the Cancer Councils Girls Night In, this year and to introduce the women helping me organise this event.

Hi, my name is Dana Harrigan. I am wife, a mum of 2 beautiful boys, a daughter, a sister, an aunty and a friend. I decided to embark on this journey as I have heard too many stories, lately, of wonderful women being effect by this terrible disease, Cancer. My Grandmother was taken by Breast Cancer when I was 16. And as an Intimo Stylist, it is becoming clear to me the number of women that have been touched by this terrible disease Cancer!

Around 770 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer each year. One in 157 women will be diagnosed with cervical cancer by the age of 85.

After doing some research into how many women are affected, I decided to be proactive and help the Cancer Council raise money to provide ongoing research to minimise the threat of cancer and provide patient support to women and their families, across Australia. Why Girls Day Out @ The Kilmore Races? I live in Doreen, which is part of the biggest growth corridor in Melbourne. It is full of wonderful women, of all ages. I wanted to get the women of the community together to celebrate life, whilst making them Cancer Aware. The Race Day is a good opportunity for us women, to get dressed up, have a good time and raise money for Womens Cancer. The Online Auction also became part of it, to help raise money. I would hope that if I was to be touched by Cancer Council would have the funds to support me and my family.

Ovarian cancer is the ninth most common cancer affecting women in Australia. Around 1,270 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer each year. One in 79 women will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer by the age of 85.

Introducing, Sam Tildesley the wonderful woman behind the scenes! I am a wife, a mum of 2 beautiful children, a daughter, a sister, an aunty and a friend. I joined Dana in this amazing Girls Day Out because Ive lost 5 people close to me to Cancer. I wanted to do my bit to help, make a difference, however I could. It affects so many people in different ways. My most recent loss, my friend, Karen. Karen lost her battle with cancer and her husband is now left to bring up 2 small boys. Its a painful, cruel, horrible disease that men and women have to battle. Im helping Dana make this Day Out a special one to raise lots of money, to bring our growing community together and remember those I have lost.

Over 2,000 women are diagnosed with uterine cancer each year. One in 93 women will be diagnosed with uterine cancer by the age of 85.

SO PLEASE REMEMBER TO HAVE YOUR BREASTS CHECKS AND YOUR PAP SMEARS!
