Are you interested in a day of discovery, story-telling and sharing ideas around the theme of families and how we live together? If so, TEDxLaceMarket is for you. Its a unique, fun and educational event thats taking place at Nottingham Contemporary on Saturday 24 November. Running from 9:30am to 4:30pm, TEDxLaceMarket will see a 100-strong audience of local people become a family for the day. Its set to be an exciting and challenging day, says event organiser Marios Perrakis. We have ten amazing guest speakers, giving a global perspective to the family theme. Well be exploring questions like: How could we live better together? Is family the most efficient, sustainable, loving and practical way of co-existing? What is family? And if we were to start over with a better understanding of the role family plays in other cultures, how would we better design the cells that form ours? Guest speakers at TEDxLaceMarket will include the Chair and Founder of UK Co-Housing Netowrk, the owner and director from a local family-run businesses, a community focused social enterprise and the renowned American author, speaker and entrepreneur, C.C. Chapman. Each speaker will give an 18 minute talk on a family-related theme thats personal to them such as balancing work and home life whilst running a family-owned business, or describing how family units and structures work in different countries around the world. The TEDx ethos is Ideas Worth Spreading so as well as listening to the speakers, youll be encouraged to share your own ideas and opinions on what family means to you. Youll watch family-themed videos and take part in discussions, games and activities with other audience members. Livescribes, a team of live illustrators, will be on hand to bring each activity to life by drawing the event as it unfolds helping you really enjoy, understand and remember the day.

Your road to TEDx starts as soon as you buy your ticket. Youll be invited to watch the organisers Preptastic video diaries in the run-up to the event, so you really feel involved and part of the TEDx family when you arrive on the day. Therell be no time to feel shy when you arrive as social trading cards company MeetMeme are running the ultimate in fun ice-breaking sessions. Youll have your own personalised Top Trumpsstyle trading card so you can introduce yourself and get to know other audience members. TEDxLaceMarket is open to everyone, says co-organiser Caron Lyon. But wed especially like to see family groups say Mum, Dad and two teenagers who live in Nottingham coming along together. We want you to take the ideas gathered on the day away with you and talk about them at home afterwards. Therell also be online videos and resources to help you stay in touch with your TEDx family and pass what youve learned on to others. In a nutshell, wed like the event to change how you live together for the better.
