UNIT OF WORK : COMIC- STRIPS GRAMMAR AND FUN

FINAL TASK: LEARNERS WILL BE ABLE TO MAKE A SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT USING CONCEPTS FROM THE PRACTICES THEY`VE BEEN DOING DURING THE LESSONS
Goals and objectives: learners will be able to

Identify different kinds of sentences Identify subject and predicate in a sentence Demonstrate understanding of sentences parts and types Write simple sentences correctly

Use grammar for communicative porpouse Content: This lesson covers simple and complete predicates.

Thematic Aspects: vocabulary related to the comic strips that learners will work with. Linguistic Contents: Simple present and Simple past verb tenses review; auxiliaries do/does /did; nouns and verbs; Interrogative-negative-imperativeand exclamatory sentences structures. Pronunciation: intonation of the different kinds of sentences Other Contents: Procedural content; learning strategies; writing strategies. Communicative Content: Function; understand and produce comic strips Discourse; comic strips sentences Skill; inference and anticipate content, distinguish different kinds of sentences and their use. Process
WEEk 1 Learners will locate The subject and the verb in sentences Eample: Alice is an amateur detective `Come here right now, her mother ordered. ( in this case `You`is the subject, it is understood) WEEK 2 Predicates Once learners have located the subject, the predicates are easy to find. A predicate shows action, the subject is the one who is doing the action. Simple Predicates The simple predicate, which can be from one to four words long, is the verb in the complete predicate Example: The squirrel ran across the yard and over the fenceThe girl jogged for one mile to the park and one mile back home.

The Complete Predicate The complete predicate is easy to find once you know what the complete subject is. It`s everything in the sentence that the complete subject is not. Example: The girl ran around the yard.

WEEK 3 The four Kinds of Sentences Declarative S. : makes a statement and ends with a period. Interrogative S.: asks a question and ends with a question mark. Imperative S.: gives a command and ends with a period. Exclamatory S.: shows excitement or strong emotion and ends with an exclamation point Sentence Fragment: as a not complete sentence ( it does not have got both, a subject and a verb)

Procedure: First, the teacher will need to go over subjects and verbs to make sure learners understand the function of nouns and verbs in a sentence. Then, the teacher will need to explain the difference between subject and predicate. Finnally, the teacher will develop the four kinds of sentences structures.

Evaluation (procedure/instrument) Carried out by learners: they will assess their own achievement of objectives, development of abilities, participation in class and by their opinion about the topic and the lessons in general. That will be by completing worksheets and self-assessment worksheets. Carried out by the teacher: there will be a continuous evaluation all through the unit , and a formative evaluation (informally) which will allows the theacher to adjust planning if necessary. Finally, there will be a final task assessment on learners product ( summative evaluation). All of them will be carried out by completing different worksheets of assessment accordingly.
