held at Hotel Lallgarh Palace, Bikaner , 9th-11th February 2012 organized by ISACP & Rajasthan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Bikaner, Rajasthan (India)

Modern Concepts in Canine Health and Diseases of Human Concern Theme Session - I Chairman:- Prof. P.R. Jatkar Co chairman:- Prof. V.K.Sinha Rapporteur :- Dr. Hemant Dadhich The theme of the congress is a burning issue and challenge for the veterinarian and human physician jointly as there are many diseases having zoonotic importance are spreading because of a very close contact between man and pet animals particularly dogs. One key note and three lead papers were presented in this session. The key note address presented by Prof. V. K. Sinha directed that there should be discussion on various emerging issues like canine zoonosis, pet animals medicine, nutrition, management and welfare. A lead paper presented by Prof. A. K. Gahlot on topic Client education An inevitable component of practice in maintaining health of companion animals as well as family in which he had given emphasis on importance of education of pet owner by veterinarian and human clinician regarding many diseases transmitting from dogs to the children. Therefore, there is necessity to educate the parents that any similar symptom occur in pet and child should immediately be reported to medical doctor for proper diagnosis & therapy. A lead paper on Rabies was delivered by Dr. R. V. Barar provide information and latest techniques for diagnosis of rabies. There is necessity for a quick and perfect diagnosis of this disease causes heavy morbidity and mortality in human beings and animals worldwide. A lead paper on Cutaneous Leishmaniasis was presented by Dr. R.D. Mehta suggested the clinical diagnosis of this disease and given emphasis on differential diagnosis from other cutaneous infections. He also explained the association of this diseases with HIV positive cases. He recommended Sodium Stibogluconate as a drug of choice for treatment of this infection. The committee suggested that the recommendations given by above scientists should be widely distributed to the field veterinarians and human clinicians for joint efforts to prevent the occurrence and spread of these diseases in the society.

Canine Medicine Session Session - II Chairman:- Prof. N.R. Pradhan Co chairman:- Dr. S. Haque Rapporteur :- Dr. D. K. Bihani In this session, 4 lead papers were presented & 10 abstract papers were presented. Papers on Canine pancreatitis, Hemodialysis, Alternative medicine in dental diseases and infectious dermatitis were presented in lead papers. In abstract papers Hepatozoon infection, fungal dermatitis, Oral papilloma, Tryponosomiasis, Cardiogenic pulmonary edema, Malassezia patchydermatitis, Piroplasmosis, Hypothyroidism and Cutaneous leishmaniasis in dogs were discussed. One paper on Canine Husbandry in Saudi Arabia was also presented. Recommendation :1) Renal failure is a very common problem in dogs. Therefore Hemodialysis facilities are to be created in every Veterinary Clinic for increasing life span of the dogs. 2) Treatment with some alternative medicine like Homeopathy etc. may be encouraged in treatment of dogs in some dental and other disease problems. 3) Special emphasis is to given for proper diagnosis and treatment of infectious dermatitis in dogs. 4) Canine Haemoprotozoan disease like Hepatozoonosis, Trypanosomiasis and Piroplasmosis etc. are to be diagnosed properly and to be treated effectively to prevent sudden deaths.

Canine Surgery Session - III Chairman:- Dr. L. Ranganathan Co chairman:- Prof. Dipak Kumar De Rapporteur :- Dr. T. K. Gahlot Recommendation :1. The lead paper was on the Stem cell which is now a days the basic research on Canine Surgery and also very informative and very much useful for wound healing and different surgical condition and further study should be undertaken to upkeep the research on the limited cases. 2. The other important surgical condition was ascities surgical management in canine for Hepatobiliary Ascities the procedure notated were very much informative and should be attempted for further study. 3. The lead paper on Laparoscopic diagnosis and therapeutics is an important interaction for the Canine Practitioner. 4. Newer concept on Acupuncture and Physiotherapy is very much essential for the Canine Practitioner. More papers on recent concept is needed in this of Canine Congress. Member should keep in their mind to present the paper on clinical and field oriented technique. Out of 38 abstract 8 papers presented.

1. Abstract 5 was best paper presented by Dr. Satyandra Gupta on Surgical and semi surgical evaluation for prostatic hyperplasia slide presentation was very good and presented within time limit. 2. Other paper was ok. Last presentation was very casual. 3. For 2 abstract papers evaluation made by Dr. V.P. Chandrapuria and L. Rangnathan. Two paper presented by I) J. Singh II) Dr. A. K. Maji. 1. The society should recommended for establishment of a National Research Centre for Pet Animals to ICAR in the 12th plan. 2. The society should form a expert committee for finalizing vaccination schedule for dogs in poor country and also post exposure Antirabies vaccination at schedule in dogs. Cutaneous leishmaniasis should be treated by safe, painless and inducing long time curve which is radiofrg. Heat therapy.

Canine Reproduction and Breeding Session - IV Chairman:- Dr. B.K.Beniwal Co chairman:- Dr. Sudershan Kumar Rapporteur :- Dr. G.N.Purohit In all 5 lead papers and 2 Abstract papers were presented. Suggestions on the basis of presentation:Paper on prediction of parturition date it was suggested that plasma progesterone assay during proestrus and mating when progesterone is 3ng/ml and adding 65 days could predict parturition. Another option could be the rectal temperature. Pyometra in canines can be managed by medical therapy more expensive and time consuming and hence ovariohysterectomy is suggested but bitches should be monitored carefully. Venereal granuloma in the dog can be treated easily with vincristine sulfate. Reproduction failures in bitches are common because of unpredictable time of ovulation. This can be monitored by vaginal cytology and plasma progesterone profiles SIPS, Metritis and Eclampsia are common post-partum complications. Modern approaches of diagnosis require sophisticated instrumentation and expertise. Ovariohysterectomy is suggested for partum problems not responding to therapy. Two oral presentations were made. One was on surgical management of Vaginal hyperplasia and one on semen collection and evaluation of canine semen.

Canine Microbiology, Virology, Immunology and Pathology Session V Chairman:- Dr. P.N. Diewedi Co chairman:- Prof. J.C.Jena Rapporteur :- Dr. S.K.Kashyap Recommendation :1. New generation multivalent vaccines should be developed to provide protection against various canine diseases. 2. Level of maternal antibodies be monitored prior to vaccination in pups so that the efficiency of the vaccines should be retained. 3. For the control of Rabies mass vaccination of stray dogs and responsible ownership should be promoted. 4. Newer diagnostic kits based on molecular biological techniques be developed to diagnosis various disease simultaneously in cost effective way. 5. Use of antibiotics sensitivity testing be applied for suggestion of proper drug therapy of diseases.

Canine Nutrition, Hygiene and Management, Canine Behavior & welfare Session VI Chairman:- Dr. Satya Bhushan Bakshi Co chairman:- Dr. Tribhuwan Sharma Rapporteur :- Dr. R.K. Dhuria Recommendation :In All 5 papers were presented. It was multifaceted. The session was a blend of canine welfare and science. Papers presented explained the vital role of canines in security alarmed about the use of animals for testing in cosmetics on account of sufferings and increasing trend of use of dog meat. The work done by NGO for canine welfare was also presented by one presenter. As a special finding it was suggested that animal specificity must be taken in account while using food animal ivermectin in dogs.

Applied subject (Anatomy, Biochemistry, Parasitology, Pharmacology and Physiology) Session VII Chairman:- Dr. Hala El Miniawy Co chairman:- Dr. Sabar Abu Zeid Rapporteur :- Dr. R.K. Dhuria Recommendation :One Lead paper presented by Dr. Zafar Iqbal Choudhry Oral paper four Dr. Ranjeet Kaur Dr. Chandarwarthani , Dr. Saber Abu Zeid , Dr. Goverdhan Singh Recommendation of this session are 1) Predominant vector of the all canine diseases should be identified to know their role in epidemiology of the diseases. This will helpful in minimized the incidence and prevalence of the canine diseases. 2) To increase the safety and potency of drugs, alternative way in veterinary therapeutics should be developed. Adoptation of existing human pharmaceuticals products in companion animals and avoidance of time consuming costly drugs development programme would be better strategy for short terms benefits. 3) Vaccines for canine influenza be developed as there in no specific antiviral treatment for canine influenza.

Human, Canine Interaction & Zoonosis Session VIII Chairman:- Prof. S.B.S. Yadav Co chairman:- Prof. Abdul Salam Baksh Rapporteur :- Dr. F.C. Tuteja In this session out of 4 lead papers only one was presented on Hookworm infestation. Out of five contributory papers only one was presented on Rabies control. Recommendation emerged out of this session were 1. For prevention of Hookworm infestation there should be regular deworming of canine as well as human population. 2. Mass vaccination of canine population should be carried out quickly, systematically and in Co- operation with community people. 3. No need to Kill healthy stray dogs. 4. Community education for zoonotic infection is required at every level. May be International, National or Local level depending upon animal species.

Poster Session Session IX Poster were presented in session IX of International Congress on Canine Practice. The committee members Chairman:- Dr. R.N.Kachhcwah Co chairman:- Dr. C.K.Mrudia Rapporteur :- Dr. A.P.Singh There are evaluated the poster exhibited in the poster session IX. In all there were 26 poster out of which 6 posters were presented. 1. Detection of Canine Distemper in a dogs A case report presented by Deepika Dhuria et al. 2. Surgical correction of rectal diverticulum with and without perineal hernia in Dogs - a report of two cases authored by A.K.Maji et al. 3. Celebration of World Rabies Day at Mekelle University College of Veterinary Medicine for the control and prevention of Rabies since 2009 to 2011 presented by Habtamu Teddle et al. 4. Importance of dental hygiene for dogs health by N.K. Mudgal et al. 5. Prevalence of different infectious & systemic diseases in Dogs in Bikaner by Nirmal Kumar Jeph et al. 6. An approach to blood transfusion in dogs a clinical study by A.K.Palei. About evaluation ranking of posters was done as under Rank Ist :- a) Detection Of Canine Distemper In A Dog A Case Report presented by Deepika Dhuria et al. b) Surgical correction of rectal diverticulum with and without perineal hernia in Dogs - a report of two case authored by A.K.Maji et al.
