ABSTRACT Dengo, Nizma. 2010. Improving students listening Comprehension through Audio Visual Media ( An Action Research at class XI students of Tourism Department of SMKN 1 Limboto). Thesis post graduate Program in Language Education Gorontalo State University Advisor : (I) Prof.Dr.Hi.Hasanuddin Fatsah,M.Hum, (II)Prof. Dr.Hi. Hamzah Achmad, M.Pd This action research is aimed at describing the implementation of using Audio Visual Media in teaching four types of listening performance (Intensive, Responsive, Selective, and Responsive) knowing whether the use of Audio Visual Media Improves the students listening comprehension, and describing the students responses toward the use of Audio Visual Media in teaching listening. The action research was carried out at class XI students of tourism department of SMKN 1 Limboto and involved 28 students as the subject of this research. The action research went through at the Odd Semester in the 2009/2010 academic years. Starting from August up to December 2009. The researchers role or position in this research was as the participant observer. The design of this research was classroom action research by using. Kemmiss Model involving four components planning, acting, observing and reflecting. Data of the research were gathered from observation and Questionnaire. The result of this action research showed the implementation of using Audio Visual Media in teaching four types of listening performance (Intensive, Responsive, Selective and Extensive) improved students listening comprehension. In Cycle 1, 14 (50%) students were successfully in learning, while in cycle II, 25 (89.3%) students were successfully in learning. The students were positively to response using of Audio Visual Media in teaching and learning Process. This was proved from the Mean of their response toward the questionnaire were 3.86 to 4.29 in cycle I, and 3.93 to 4.43 in cycle II. However, because of the limitation of this research, so the researcher would like to suggest to the further researchers to research the learning strategies to improve students listening comprehension. Because the researcher believes that the use of learning strategies make the learning process easier, faster, more enjoyable, and meaningful to the students, and the researcher does not discuss more about this in this research. This thesis is written and then presented in partial fulfillment of the requirement for the degree of magister in language Education at graduate program of Gorontalo State University. I realized that, this thesis can be finished without blessing of my God, helping my advisors, and supporting from some participants. Therefore, I am grateful to them who have given their contributions directly and indirectly in finishing this thesis. I hope that this thesis will help English Teachers to look for a good solution to teach listening so that students listening problem can be solved.

Teacher ask the students to practice the expression in front of class. (in pairs). c. Post - Activity (20 minutes) Teacher and students make conclusion about the material.
