Urban public transport

Vehicles do not of course about the roads for mysterious reasons of their own. They move only because people want them to move in connection with activities which they are engaged in. This explains why there is so much traffic in towns because activities are concentrated there. It is characteristic of activities in town that they mainly take place in places such as markets, depots, docks and stations. One of the most basic movements is the link between home and places of work. Every morning and every evening, a great movement of vehicles takes place between the residental areas and the places of work. There are various means of transportations such as: buses, trams, trolleybuses, the underground and private cars. The tram is a passenger carrying vehicle running on lines through the street. The trolleybus is driven by electric power. Like the tram, it moves forvard smoothly and rapidly. Buses have nearly replaced trams and trolleybuses and they have become the most widely used form of public transportation in urban areas. Some large cities have an underground which lies partly or wholly below street level. The underground is too deep to be reached by stairs, except in an emergency. Moving stairways carry passengers between the street and the underground platforms. Some of the biggest stations have four escalators, two going up and two down. But with the rising standard of leaving and the increase of car ownership, and because in many places the public transport services seem unable to cope with increased demands, far more people use cars for the journey to work. Naravno vozila se ne kreu po putu iz svojih misterioznih razloga. Ona se kreu samo zbog toga to ljudi ele da se ona kreu u vezi sa aktivnostima u koja su ljudi ukljueni. Ovo objanjava zato je tako mnogo saobraaja u gradovima zato to su ljudske aktivnosti tu koncentrisane. Karakteristino je za aktivnosti u gradu da se ona uglavnom deavaju gde su marketi, depoi, dokovi ili stanice. Jedna od osnovnih kretanja je veza izmeu kue i javnog mesta. Svakog jutra i svake veeri, deavaju se velika kretanja vozila izmeu stmbenih kvartova i mesta gde rade. Postoje razliita sredstva prevoza kao to su: autobusi, tramvaji, trolejbusi, podzemni prevoz i privatna kola. Tramvaj je vozilo za prevoz putnika koje se kree po inama na ulici. Trolejbus se pokree elektrinom snagom. Kao i tramvaj, kree se glatko i brzo. Autobusi su skoro zamenili tramvaje i trolejbuse i postali su najire koriteno sredstvo javnog transporta u urbanim podruijima. Neki veliki gradovi imaju podzemni prevoz koji delimino ili u celini lei ispod nivoa ulice. Podzemlje je isuvie duboko da bi bilo dohvaeno stepenicama, osim u hitnim sluajevima. Pokretne stepenice prenose putnike izmeu ulica i podzemnih platformi. Neke od najveih stanica imaju etiri lifta, dva idu gore dva dole. Ali porastom standardom ivota i poveanim brojem vlasnika automobila, i zato to u mnogim mestima servisi javnog prevoza ne mogu da se nose sa poveanom potranjom, veina ljudi koristi kola za putovanje do posla. U veini gradova, korienje automobila za putovanje do i sa posla ve dominira saobraajnom slikom, i pravi poznate jutarnje i veernje piceve.
