Week 1 List the major components of the hospitality and tourism network

According to hospitality & tourism: Principles, Practices, Philosophies 11 editions by Charles R. Goeldner and J.R. Brent Ritchie describe that there have four major components categories that can be classified into: 1. Natural resources The natural resources are materials, which living organisms can take from nature for sustaining their life or any components of the natural environment that can be utilized by man to promote his welfare is considered as natural resources. Therefore it can classified to natural climate (Mother Nature), physiographic (countries) and people (citizen)

2. Built Environment Human-made surroundings that provide the setting for human activity, ranging in scale from buildings and parks or green space to neighborhoods and cities that can often include their supporting infrastructure, such as water supply, energy networks, building, road and etc. The built environment is a material, spatial and cultural product of human labor that combines physical elements and energy in forms for living, working and playing.

3. Operating Sectors The hospitality industry is a broad category of fields within the service industry that includes: a) Accommodation Hotel Motel Caravan Resort Inns Hostels Apartment Rest House Chalet Lodges Cottages Campground s Cabin Houseboats Hospital

e) Food and Beverage The food and beverages sectors encompasses all types of establishment supplying and beverages for consumption from fine dining and ethnic restaurants to institutional food outlets and catering firms, from pubs and bars to nightclubs and lounges.

f) Tourism Services Tourism sectors services sector is made up of the organizations, associations, government agencies, and companies that specialize in serving the needs of the tourism industry as a whole rather than the needs of travelers specifically. Including people others about tourism and those who distribute and travel also fall into this sector.

g) Transportation There sectors is divided into four categories

h) Travel trade The travel trade sector supports the bookings and sales in the other sector. The people that work in the travel make reservations for accommodations, tours, transportation, food and beverages and for attractions. These booking can be in the form of an all encompassing tour packages or singles booking for singles traveler

4. Spirit of Hospitality and cultural resources The development of hospitality resources is perhaps the most important factor in tourism. The finest physical facilities will b e worthless if the tourist feels unwelcome. A favorable attitude toward the visitor can be created through programmers of public information and propagandas. The social foundation of the destination its culture, which consists of the language, customs, and religions of the residents of the region as well as works and related leisure behaviors. It is the people and the cultural wealth of areas that make possible the successful hosting of tourists. Cultural resources include; fine arts, literature, history, music, dramatic art, dancing, shopping, sports, and other activities.
