Automatic ladder base window blind control system.

ABSTRACT:
Typical mid-income households spend Rs 300 to Rs 500 per month on electricity 800 to 1000 kilowatt-hours (kWh). Most households could save 20 - 30 % of this easily if we can use efficient equipments and even more we can save if we can utilize the outside sun light for lightening. In this project we have planned to develop an automatic Blinds control system in Accordance with outside sunlight to save the electricity. Whenever there is sunlight outside, blinds are opened to utilize that light avoiding need of electric lights. Blinds angle of opening is proportional to sunlight intensity. To control the blinds we plan to use Stepper motor and intensity of sunlight is sensed Using Light Dependent Resistance interfaced to on chip ADC of microcontroller. It takes input from sensor, decides the angle of opening for blinds and activates the stepper motor through motor driver. Keeping in mind the vast technical and document support and integrated on-chip peripherals available, high source and sink currents ATMEL microcontroller is chosen. Because of less development time, easy debugging and easy understandability compared to assembly language, Firmware (software for embedded system) is developed in Embedded C. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Project Proposal The title we chose for our project was Smart Window Temperature Control. The main idea of this project is to create a controller that would take in two different temperature readings, one indoor and one outdoor, and based on those inputs will send a signal to a motor to open or close a window via RF communication. There are several reasons why we selected this project. The first of these reasons is that we are both interested in controlling motors and this is a large part of the project. We are also both very interested in how to use RF communication and would like to use this project as an opportunity to learn more about it and how to use it. Lastly, this project would be one that would be very useful to the average person; it would improve comfort when sitting in a room and save money on heating and cooling. We are excited about this project because we are combining things we are very interested in with things we want to know more about to create a very useful end result. This project will have the following benefits and product features for the customer: Benefits Save money on heating and cooling of your home The convenience of continuous automated monitoring of your temperature settings Increased fresh air and circulation inside the house Features RF technology makes it possible to incorporate several motor modules on several windows all using the same control unit Ability to override the control unit and manually electronically open or close a window Wireless transmission of data so there is no wiring

The control unit and outdoor temperature sensor can be placed in convenient locations

Explanation of Modules Outdoor Temperature Node - This module will obtain the outdoor temperature from a temperature sensor and send this information to the control unit via RF communication. This node would be placed in a strategic outdoor location, which is protected from adverse weather but would be able to report an accurate temperature. Control Unit - This module receives the outdoor temperature information as well as the indoor temperature information from its local temperature sensor. It then processes this information along with additional switches and I/O and sends a command to the motor module via RF communication. Motor Module - This module receives a command from the control unit via RF communication and will then either open or close the window using a DC motor. The module will keep track of the position of the window and will decide the actions needed based on that information and the information from the control unit. Performance Requirement This device will be able to operate with a very high rate of accuracy where temperatures will sensed to at least the nearest degree within the range of -10F to 110F. It will also have a range such that a motor module can be placed on any window of your home and will be able to communicate with the control unit.

Tolerance Analysis In order for our project to work properly we will need to be sure that our temperature sensors can work in extreme temperatures. Having an outdoor thermometer will expose it to adverse conditions such as temperatures up to 110 degrees and as low as 10 degrees Fahrenheit. The housing for the outdoor sensor will hopefully compensate the effects of wind and rain. When we have properly configured the sensor we should be able to have a sensor which is accurate within a degree for temperatures ranging from 10 to 110 degrees. Our control unit will have to be able to make decisions and execute commands based on the temperature both indoors and outdoors.
