By the end of the lesson, the pupils will be able to: a) Given a set of pictures, identify and pronounce the names of various plants/trees correctly, b) Match accurately the names of plants/trees with the pictures in a task sheet given, c) Given a guided dialogue, role-play a scene in a plant nursery creatively. d) Based on the information processed from the internet/Encarta CD, label the plants/trees based on the plant categories identified correctly,

e) Interview two friends about their favourite plants or trees that they would like to grow in the school during the School Beautification Programme. Induction Set (5 Mins)

Teacher asks pupils if they grow any plants/trees in their gardens. Teacher invites some pupils to Plants realias name the plants they grow in their gardens. Teacher shows pupils some samples of real plants. Pupils identify and name them. Teacher puts up picture cards on the board. Pupils identify as many names of the plants/trees based on the pictures shown. Teacher puts up the word/phrase cards on the WB/BB. Teacher helps pupils with pronunciation of names of plants/trees. T explains the meanings of the words. Pupils then work in groups to

Presentation (20 Mins)

Word/Phrase & Picture Cards Plants/Trees: Hibiscus plants, orchids, money plant, small bush, tall durian trees, leaves, fruits, nursery. Pronunciation: /t/, /tr/, /gr/, /i:/

Role Play MI: Interpersonal Intelligence

Pupils are given a guided dialogue to practise asking and responding to information about plants. Pupils role play a scene in a plant nursery in pairs. Teacher checks and corrects the pronunciation of the pupils. Teacher highlights the importance of looking after plants and trees in the environment to protect the Earth. Pupils access an internet site/Encarta CD provided by the teacher e.g. Singapore Botanical Garden Pupils fill in a task sheet by categorizing plants and trees based on plants groups found in the Garden. Pupils label the plants and trees according to the categories in a task sheet. Teacher gets pupils to find out from two people what plants/trees they wish to grow during the School Beautification Project. Pupils go around the class to ask 2 friends. Teacher gets some pupils to share what they have found out in class.

To give ppls practice in asking and responding to questions. Listening & speaking skills practised dialogue/ meaningful drill.
