(St.

Augustine Church, Barberton, OH) (October 14, 2012)

Twenty-Eight Sunday in Ordinary Time

The rich young man in the Gospel knew what he had to do, but he was locked into his stuff. His possessions consumed him and blocked him from truly following God. We live in a consumer society but who or what is really consumed? Todays Gospel warns us not to be locked into chasing more and better stuff while neglecting Gods goal for us. Pope Benedict XVI has designated October 11, 2012-November 24, 2013 as a YEAR OF FAITH. Our Diocese has added the designation Living Our Relationship with Jesus Christ. As quoted in the Magnificat Year of Faith Companion (available on the bookrack), The Year of Faith is a summons to an authentic and renewed conversion to the Lord. The Holy Father tells us that a task every believer must make his own, especially in the course of this Year, is to rediscover the content of the faith that is professed, celebrated, lived, and prayed, and to reflect on the act of faith. The October theme is God the Creator: I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth Reference the Catechism of the Catholic Church 198-421. Please look for the monthly bulletin inserts that contain reflection questions for each Sunday of the month. The Year of Faith, observed by Catholics throughout the world, provides an excellent time to re-examine our beliefs and to commit ourselves more deeply to knowing, loving, and serving our great God. (James 4:7-8) Many blessings to you!

Today there will be a second collection for Blanket Sunday. The Diocesan St. Vincent de Paul Society will make your money go further with bulk purchases for use in our own metropolitan area. Thank you for your donation and for giving someone a blanket for the winter. Your donations are warmly appreciated.
