SOLUTION: It is possible to change the connection method of the HP Officejet G series all-in-one product between parallel and USB. NOTE: USB is the preferred connection method for the HP Officejet G series all-in-one product for Windows 98 and 2000 installations. Do not connect the unit using both the parallel and USB methods. This will not work. Switching connection method To accomplish this, the software must be uninstalled and then reinstalled. This is required so that the old entries in the Device Manager will be removed and the new ones created. Follow these steps: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. 11. 12. 13. Click Start, Programs, and HP Officejet G series all-in-one product. Select Uninstall Software. Click OK to continue. A window will appear asking what components should be removed. Remove the check mark from all entries and click Next. The uninstaller will remove the software. Turn the HP all-in-one unit off. Disconnect the HP Officejet G series all-in-one product hardware from the computer. The computer needs to be restarted. To restart the computer, click Start, Shutdown, Restart Computer, and OK. Insert the HP Officejet G series all-in-one product software CD-ROM into the computer's CD-ROM drive. The software should launch automatically. If it does not, click Start, Run and enter d:\setup.exe where d is the drive letter of the CD-ROM drive. Install the HP Officejet software. Turn off the computer and connect the HP Officejet G series all-in-one product in the new connection method. Restart the computer. During the start process, Windows will recognize the unit and add the device drivers into the Device Manager. The Congratulations screen should appear at the end and inform that the installation was successful. If this message does not appear, the uninstallreinstall process must be followed again.

Installation fails If the installation fails for any reason, uninstall the HP Officejet G series software and then download and run the latest version of the Uninstaller Utility from the Officejet-Support.com Web site, and then reinstall the software. Follow the instructions found on the Web page.
