Traces of Grace
Dear Fellow Parishioners October is always a busy time in the parish. Folks are finally really back from summer breaks and school and parish Faith Formation are back in full swing. Add that October is Right to Life month for Catholics in the United States (and, of course, that we have a National Election coming up in a few weeks). I wish to thank all the groups who are actively engaged in promoting life issues during this month. Pennies from Heaven is a diocesan drive every year to help support local life centers (I am working on filling my fourth baby bottle), and the staff and priests who support and speak to life issues facing our nation, our church and our families in these days. I especially want to thank our parish justice committee who sponsored a series of presentations on looking at the death penalty as it exists in California. They worked very hard to bring together speakers and evenings of reflection for us to consider how the death penalty should be changed in our state. If you missed these evenings, some of them were visually recorded and are available on StedCast on www.youtube.com/stedcast. You may wish to check them out. Recently, an invitation was extended to you to be a part of our Parish Assembly night. While the overall numbers were not large, those who were able to make it had a lively discussion last Monday evening in Knight Hall. We discussed the life of our parish community, looked at our parish goals and how we might be able to implement them in the coming year. I really enjoyed the energy and interest generated that evening. Know that you will be seeing more about this in the next month at our Sunday liturgies as well as in the bulletin and our website. In the meantime, work hard, pray harder! Together in Christ;

Fr. Steve Pastor

October 20/21 (World Mission Sunday): MISSIONARIES OF FAITH Today is World Mission Sunday. We are called to this Eucharistic celebration along with Catholics in every parish, chapel and church throughout the world to fulfill the call we first heard at Baptism, the call to be missionaries, to share our faith. On World Mission Sunday, we are called in a special way to be missionaries of faith through prayer and participation in the Eucharist, and by giving generously to the collection. Let us pray especially at this Mass for all who long to hear the hope-filled, saving message of Jesus, and for the priests, religious and lay catechists in mission countries worldwide who offer them that Good News. MAKING A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE (note: additional/optional to use on WMS) Just as our young church here in the United States received support in the 19th century from the Catholics of Europe through the Society for the Propagation of the Faith, so too the growing churches in the Developing World today also require financial help. Your generosity will help make a faith-filled difference around the world! * A gift of $15 is a weeks support of a young man in a mission seminary. * A gift of $25 is a months help for the formation of a religious Sister in the Pacific Islands. * A gift of $50 helps provide care for one of the 50 children at a home in Zambia. * A gift of $100 covers the cost of a desk and textbook for five of the 300 children in catechism class at a parish on the Galpagos Islands off Ecuador.

Outreach & Support

SOCIETY OF ST. VINCENT DE PAUL
The Society is a worldwide Christian community, founded in Paris in 1833 by a group of young Catholic lay people and an older person, who joined together to create the first Conference. The Society wishes to remember them all with gratitude as they set an example of dedication to the poor and to the Church. The Holy Spirit was undoubtedly present in all of them at the founding of the Society, fostering the charism of each one. Among them, Blessed Frederic Ozanam was a radiant source off inspiration. WEDDING COORDINATOR NEEDED

Our parish is looking for another wedding coordinator to assist in wedding preparation, rehearsals, as well as the day of the wedding. It involves working with the couple, as well as the celebrant in order to help make the wedding day go smoothly. This is an hourly position, involving working some weekends and evenings. If you are interested, please call, Saundra Mulato, the office manager at 496 1307.

FAITH IN ACTION
The perfect way to give back without a huge time commitment. There are many folks who need a ride to Mass. Faith in Action offers rides, assistance with shopping for groceries and other chores that we all take for granted. If you have a seat available in your car when you come to Mass or some spare time to assist someone with these tasks, call Christe Roknich at 949-240-5892 or email Christe@roknich.com

STEPHEN MINISTRY

Christ Caring for People through People. That's the motto of Stephen Ministry. The Stephen Minister's role is to bring God's love into the lives of people who are going through a difficult time or experiencing a crisis. Stephen Ministers listen to you, support and encourage you, and pray with and for you. And in the midst of this confidential, one-toone, caring relationship, God's healing love comes pouring through. For more info, call St. Edwards Stephen Ministry at 949-496-1307 x 2503 or email us at stephenministry@stedward.com.

HELP ART AND ENVIRONMENT DECORATE THE CHURCH

Volunteers are needed to assist the Art and Environment Committee as they prepare the Church for the coming liturgical year. They decorate for Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter and Ordinary Time and many hands are needed. To volunteer or for more information please contact Deana Progar at dprogar@stedward.com or 949-525-7092 and leave your contact information.

CATHOLIC SOCIAL JUSTICE

If bloodless means are sufficient to defend human lives against an aggressor and to protect public order and the safety of persons, public authority must limit itself to such means, because they better correspond to the concrete conditions of the common good and are more in conformity to the dignity of the human person. (Catechism of the Catholic Church, no. 2267) On November 6, 2012, join the Catholic Social Justice Ministry in advocating for the end of the death penalty and replacing it with life without the possibility of parole. Our next meeting is November 13, 7:00pm, in the Church Meeting Room.

LEGATUS
Legatus is an international organization of Catholic business leaders and their spouses. Members meet each month for Mass, dinner and a program. Meetings help members to live their faith better and to integrate their faith into their businesses. No fund raising or projects are pursued. If you are a parishioner and the CEO, president, managing partner or owner of a business or other organization, and would like to meet with other Catholic business leaders in this setting, visit our website at www.legatus.org for more information. You may also call Legatus member Mark McCormick at (949) 677-5734. CATHOLIC FAMILY LIFE WEBSITE www.familyandchurch.org Page 6
