extraction methods are often ineffective. In-situ thermal recovery, Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) in particular, is extremely successful for recovery of heavy and extra-heavy oil (bitumen). A typical SAGD process consists of two horizontal wells placed near the base of an oil sands deposit. A steam injection well is placed a

The steam distribution and injection valves are exposed to a number of challenges depending upon the steam quality and pressure. These challenges include:

Erosion damage to the trim and body due to low quality steam Inadequate seat load to maintain tight shutoff

FISHER CUSTOMIZATION A SAGD plant in Northern Alberta was having process issues and needed a valve that could handle their low quality steam. The high pressure steam and condensate was very erosive and was causing erosion damage to the rim. The valve trim materials were selected to combat the erosive effects of the condensate entrained in the steam and a customized Fisher Whisper Trim III cage was designed to suit the sizing requirements of the application and to reduce the vibration typically caused by high pressure drop steam applications. For selected process pressure drops, Whisper Trim cage utilizes multiple orifices of special shape, size and spacing to achieve noise reductions to 30 dBA. Process flow-up techniques keeps energy sources away from critical trim parts Trim parts furnished in hardened materials to extend service life Incorporates patented, three-dimensional flow path, pressure staging and special passage shapes that uniquely combine to achieve up to a 40 dBA noise reduction Process flow-up technique keeps energy sources away from critical trim parts Trim parts furnished in hardened materials to extend service life
