INTRODUCTION
Welcome to Akiyama ASIO Driver vA 1.0.1. This manual enables you to make the most of your Akiyama ASIO Driver installation In order to achieve the best possible results with Akiyama ASIO Driver, it is recommended that your computer is configured accordingly: - Set the power scheme to Always On (XP) or High Performance (Vista & 7) in order to turn off Processor P-State switching! Advanced: Modify an existing power scheme so as to not switch CPU speed, because other power settings are not that critical. - Turn off system sounds. While e.g. the Windows logon sound certainly will not be a problem, sound effects in response to button clicks, notifications etc. will mean that for the time they play, Akiyama ASIO Driver may be unable to initialize the audio device. For updates, help and further information, please visit: http://www.akiyamadj.com/ - Akiyama Web site There now should be a button to launch the ASIO control panel. How this button is labelled depends on your particular software. Once you press this button, the Akiyama ASIO control panel should appear. Please consult the manual of your audio software for further assistance, if necessary. In Traktor you should select Settings and in Virtual DJ select ASIO config to launch the control panel (green rectangle). Sometimes, the audio software indeed would not provide an ASIO control panel option. This is the case for e.g. some ASIO output plugins in media player software. For configuring Akiyama ASIO Driver with these applications anyway, you can launch the control panel by clicking on the Akiyama ASIO Driver status icon in the System Tray area. The tray icon will become visible whenever an application initializes the Akiyama ASIO Driver. If there is no tray icon, your audio application is not currently using the Akiyama ASIO Driver.

SETTING UP YOUR AUDIO SOFTWARE

In order to make use of Akiyama ASIO Driver, you need to configure your audio software accordingly. How you would do this depends on your particular software application. Generally, you would always enter to the audio configuration menu and select ASIO -> AKIYAMA ASIO. For example: when using Traktor you have to go to Audio Setup in Preferences and select AKIYAMA ASIO from the list of Audio Devices (blue rectangle).

If you are using Virtual DJ you must open the settings window and select Sound Setup. Afterwards, it is necessary to select ASIO driver as sound card and select AKIYAMA ASIO from the list (blue rectangle).

The first three icons reflect the state of the driver according to the ASIO spec, i.e. "running", "prepared", "loaded/stopped". The exclamation mark will flash briefly if the driver encountered an internal overload condition resulting in a restart of the audio engine.

Note: When it is possible to access the ASIO control panel from within the audio application, you should use that option instead of clicking the tray icon! Changes made in the control sometimes may not have an effect until you restart the audio application. Once you made it into the Akiyama ASIO Driver control panel (one way or the other) you can now proceed with configuration.

CONFIGURATION
Multi-device-setups require that all the devices involved are running from the same clock source. Fortunately, most USB devices will automatically synchronize themselves for as long as the host controllers they are connected to have a common clock source, which is trivially true for the USB host controllers embedded in the south bridge on any mainboard. Note: If devices are not accurately synced, their audio streams are likely to drift apart over time! If you do not need audio inputs, you best disable them all, which normally will provide you with a better stability at very small ASIO buffer sizes, or allow smaller buffer sizes in the first place. You should also disable all audio outputs you do not really need. To disable channels expand the items in the WDM device list and disable everything you do not want to use in this setup. The current state of each device is shown as a small icon on its associated button. It can be either of these: Active The device has been successfully started by the audio engine. Inactive The device should be available for use in this session but has not been started yet Unavailable The device is in use elsewhere, such as by another audio application or by the MS GS Software Wavetable Synth. Beyond Logic You get this if the device for some unknown reason refuses to start and/or displays erratic behavior of any kind. Sometimes, closing and reopening the control panel may cure the situation, as may unplug and re-inserting of USB devices. Sometimes, this can also mean the same as Unavailable, whenever the device does not report its current availability or the lack thereof back to Akiyama ASIO Driver. Note: If the device list is empty, this means that you do not have a single WDM audio device in your system. Please check with your audio hardware manufacturer for a WDM driver! Highlight the device that you want to make changes to. Note: All parameter changes always only apply to the currently highlighted device!

Device List
This is the list of WDM audio devices found in your system. The device list is expandable. By expanding the device list, you can fully explore the WDM audio architecture of your system. The device list contains Devices and Device Interfaces. Activate the device you want to use by clicking on the button next to the device name. Using the button next to each device interface, you can now selectively enable/disable each particular interface of the device. This way, you can also create multi-device-setups. In the picture above, both sound cards would be enabled while the interfaces HD Audio Mixed capture and HD Audio SPDIF out would not be enabled. The names of the channels of a device may change depending on the configuration of the Akiyama ASIO Driver. In the picture above if ARES SC4 was the only selected device, outputs from 1 to 4 of ASIO would correspond to the physical outputs from 1 to 4 of the device. However, if we had the ASIO driver configured like in the picture above, outputs from 1 to 8 of ASIO would correspond to High Definition Audio Device while the names of the four outputs of ARES SC4 would be 9, 10, 11 and 12 in ASIO. In the picture below it is shown how it must be configured Virtual DJ using the ASIO configuration showed in the picture above. Using this configuration deck 1 and deck 2 would be routed to the channel 1 and of the ARES SC4 sound card and headphones would be routed to the headphones output of your computer.

ASIO Buffer Size

Use the slider to adjust the ASIO buffer size for the device currently highlighted. Smaller buffer size means lower latency. Once you hear crackles or audio becomes distorted, you need to increase the buffer size. ASIO buffer size directly relates to audio latency. Thus, you want to get a rather small value here.

- (Vista) the meters are moving, everything looks o.k. - But there is no sound Drivers for High Definition Audio devices have a habit of listing SPDIF outputs before the analog ones. As a consequence, the first two or more ASIO channels will be routed to SPDIF. You can change this by either disabling the SPDIF output in the Akiyama ASIO Driver control panel or correctly assigning ASIO channels in your audio application. - Changes made in the control panel do not propagate between different audio applications Neither do they propagate between different users. This is not a bug, it's a feature! Akiyama ASIO Driver stores settings per host application/per user. This makes it possible to have several instances of Akiyama ASIO Driver run at the same time for as long as they do not try to use the same piece of audio hardware exclusively. This further allows to every user of a computer to have their own configuration.

TROUBLESHOOTING
If you change the device setup in the Akiyama ASIO Driver control panel, the number of available input and output channels is likely to change, as well as the names of the channels that are seen by the host application. Therefore, it is always advisable to restart your audio host application after any change in the audio device setup whenever you find that the particular application does not appear to be able to handle these kinds of changes on the fly. More potential problems and possible solutions: - Akiyama ASIO Driver not visible in host audio configuration menu There are two possible reasons for this: Either your audio application does not support ASIO or you installed Akiyama ASIO Driver as an underprivileged user. In the latter case, please log on as Administrator and install Akiyama ASIO Driver again. Once successfully installed, Akiyama ASIO Driver should not require Administrator privileges anymore in order to run. - Audio device flagged as Unavailable or Beyond Logic even though it is not in use elsewhere You want to make sure the MS GS Software Wavetable Synth or anything by a similar name is not enabled anywhere in you MIDI setup. If any such Software Wavetable Synth (sometimes in disguise as ...DLS Synth...) can be ruled out as the cause, try to restart the audio host application. Sometimes, when switching from another driver to Akiyama ASIO Driver, the previous driver will not release the audio device in time. If the device is an USB/PCMCIA/FireWire device, close the Akiyama ASIO Driver control panel, unplug the device, plug it in again and re-open the Akiyama ASIO Driver control panel. - Cannot play sound from another application when Akiyama ASIO Driver is active This is by design. As close to the hardware as possible means that all the software mixing provided by Windows will be bypassed. Without any software mixing - and the associated latency and bit mangling - you are stuck with the hardware mixing capabilities of your audio device. Most of the time, there simply is no hardware mixing capabilities at all.

INTRODUCCIN
Bienvenido al driver Akiyama ASIO vA 1.0.1. Este manual le permitir sacar el mximo provecho a su instalacin del driver. Para poder obtener los mejores resultados posibles de su driver usted deber configurar su ordenador consecuentemente: - Configure el plan de energa como Siempre activo (XP) o Alto rendimiento (Vista & 7) para deshabilitar la conmutacin P-State del procesador. Avanzado: Modifique el plan de energa actual deshabilitando la conmutacin de la velocidad de la CPU, ya que otras configuraciones de potencia no son tan crticas. - Deshabilite los sonidos de sistema. Mientras que por ejemplo el sonido de apagado de Windows no supondr ningn problema, los efectos de sonidos correspondientes a clicks de botones o notificaciones pueden provocar que mientas se estn reproduciendo el driver Akiyama ASIO pueda no ser capaz de inicializar el dispositivo. seleccionar ASIO como tarjeta de sonido y AKIYAMA ASIO en la lista (rectngulo azul).

Una vez seleccionado el driver ASIO debera aparecer algn botn que le permita abrir el panel de control de ASIO. El botn puede tener distintos nombres dependiendo del software. Una vez seleccionado el botn de configuracin debera abrirse la ventana de panel de control de Akiyama ASIO. Consulte el manual de su software de audio para ms informacin si es necesario. En Traktor usted deber seleccionar Settings y en Virtual DJ ASIO config para abrir el panel de control (rectngulo verde). Algn software no dispone de ninguna opcin para configurar el driver ASIO. Este es el caso, por ejemplo, de algunos plugins de salida ASIO en software reproductores multimedia. Para configurar el driver Akiyama ASIO en estos programas, usted puede abrir el panel de control clickando el icono de estado del driver Akiyama ASIO que aparece en la barra de tareas de Windows. Este icono ser visible siempre que algn programa inicialice el driver Akiyama ASIO. Si no encuentra el icono en la barra de tareas es porque ningn programa est utilizando el driver Akiyama ASIO.

Para poder utilizar el driver Akiyama ASIO es necesario que configure su software de audio correctamente. La configuracin depender del software concreto que usted utilice. Normalmente existe un men de configuracin de audio en el que se pude seleccionar ASIO -> AKIYAMA ASIO. Por ejemplo: Si utiliza Traktor deber seleccionar Audio Setup en Preferencias y seleccionar AKIYAMA ASIO en la lista de dispositivos de audio (rectngulo azul).

En Virtual DJ se debe abrir la ventana de configuracin y seleccionar Sound Setup. A continuacin

"en funcionamiento", "preparado", "cargado/parado". La exclamacin parpadea unos instantes si el driver sufre una condicin interna de sobrecarga que causa el reinicio del motor de audio. Nota: Siempre que sea posible acceder al panel de control de ASIO desde el software de audio es recomendable utilizar esta opcin en vez del icono de la barra de tareas. Algunos cambios realizados en el panel de control pueden no tener efecto hasta que se reinicie el programa de audio. Una vez se ha configurado el software de audio y ha conseguido acceder al panel de control del driver Akiyama ASIO ya puede proceder a configura el driver.

En la siguiente imagen se muestra como deberan configurarse las salidas en Virtual DJ si la configuracin del driver fuera la que hemos dicho anteriormente. Utilizando esta configuracin: el deck 1 y el deck 2 seran enviados a las salidas de la tarjeta ARES SC4 y los auriculares se enviaran la salida principal del ordenador.

CONFIGURACIN DEL DRIVER

Configuraciones para mltiples dispositivos requieren que todos los dispositivos involucrados estn utilizando la misma fuente de reloj. Afortunadamente, la mayora de los dispositivos USB se sincronizarn automticamente mientras los controladores anfitriones a los que estn conectados tengan una fuente de reloj comn, lo que es trivialmente cierto para los controladores anfitriones USB integrados en cualquier placa base. Nota: Si los dispositivos no estn debidamente sincronizados, es probable que los flujos de audio se separen con el tiempo.

Lista de dispositivos
Es la lista de dispositivos WDM que se encuentran instalados en su sistema. La lista de dispositivos se puede expandir. Expandiendo la lista se puede explorar la arquitectura de los dispositivos WDM de audio de su sistema. La lista expandida contiene tanto los dispositivos como las interfaces de cada dispositivo. Active el dispositivo que desea utilizar clickando el botn que se encuentra a la izquierda del nombre del dispositivo. Utilizando el botn que se encuentra la lado de cada interface, usted puede habilitar/deshabilitar cada una de las interfaces del dispositivo. De esta manera se pueden crear configuraciones para mltiples dispositivos. En la imagen de arriba las dos tarjetas de sonido estn activas mientras que las interfaces HD Audio Mixed capture y HD Audio SPDIF out estn desactivadas. El nombre de los canales de los dispositivos puede cambiar dependiendo de la configuracin del driver Akiyama ASIO. En la imagen anterior si ARES SC4 fuera la nica tarjeta seleccionada, las salidas de 1 a 4 de ASIO se corresponderan con las salidas fsicas de 1 a 4 de la tarjeta. Sin embargo, si el driver estuviera configurado como se muestra en la imagen, las salidas de 1 a 8 de ASIO se corresponderan a High Definition Audio Device mientras que los nombres de las cuatro salidas de ARES SC4 seran 9, 10, 11 y 12 en ASIO.

En caso de no necesitar entradas de audio, es mejor deshabilitarlas para tener mejor estabilidad utilizando tamaos de buffer ASIO pequeos, o le permitir utilizar valores menores de tamao de buffer. Tambin deberan deshabilitar las salidas que no se utilicen. Para deshabilitar canales, debemos expandir la lista de dispositivos WDM y deshabilitar todo lo que no vayamos a utilizar. El estado de cada dispositivo se muestra en el icono que se encuentra a la izquierda del nombre. Los iconos pueden ser los siguientes: Activo: El dispositivo ha sido inicializado por el motor de audio satisfactoriamente. Inactivo: El dispositivo debera estar disponible para ser utilizado pero todava no ha sido inicializado. No disponible: El dispositivo est siendo utilizado por otra aplicacin o por el mezclador de Windows. Fuera de la Lgica: Este icono aparece cuando por algn motivo desconocido el dispositivo no permite su inicializacin o muestra algn comportamiento errtico. Algunas veces cerrando y volviendo a abrir el panel de control o desconectando y conectando el dispositivo USB se soluciona esta situacin. A veces tambin puede significar lo mismo que No disponible, cuando el dispositivo no reporta su disponibilidad (o la falta de) al driver Akiyama ASIO. Nota: Que la lista de dispositivos est vaca significa que el ordenador no dispone de ningn

dispositivo de audio WDM. Consulte al fabricante del dispositivo de audio a cerca de la existencia de drivers WDM para su dispositivo. Seleccione el dispositivo al cul quiere hacer cambios (ste se resalta en azul). Nota: Todos los cambios slo se aplicarn al dispositivo que est seleccionado en el momento de hacer los cambios.

Si el dispositivo es USB/PCMCIA/FireWire, cierre el panel de control del driver Akiyama ASIO, desconecte el dispositivo, conctelo de nuevo y vuelva a abrir el panel de control del driver Akiyama ASIO. - No se puede reproducir sonido desde otro programa mientras el driver Akiyama ASIO est activo El driver se salta cualquier software de mezcla de Windows para reducir la latencia que aaden este tipo software. Hay que tener en cuenta que utilizando el driver Akiyama ASIO slo se podrn utilizar funciones de mezcla que realiza el hardware. Por tanto en caso de que usted modifique por ejemplo el control de volumen desde panel de control de Windows, el volumen slo se modificar si el hardware dispone de esta opcin. - (Vista) Los controles se mueven y todo parece correcto pero no hay sonido en la salida Algunos drivers correspondientes a dispositivos de alta definicin de audio tienen el hbito de listar las salidas SPDIF antes que las analgicas. Como consecuencia, los primeros dos o ms canales de audio se asociarn a SPDIF. Tiene la opcin de deshabilitar las salidas SPDIF en el panel de control del driver Akiyama ASIO o asignar correctamente los canales ASIO en su programa de audio. - Los cambios realizados en el panel de control no se propagan entre distintos programas Tampoco se propagan entre distintos usuarios. Esto es una caracterstica del driver Akiyama ASIO. El driver almacena las configuraciones por programa y por usuario. Esto hace posible tener mltiples ejecuciones del driver a la vez siempre y cuando intenten utilizar el mismo dispositivo hardware de audio de manera exclusiva. Adems cada usuario de un mismo PC puede tener su propia configuracin.

Tamao de Buffer ASIO

Mueva la barra horizontal para seleccionar el tamao de buffer ASIO del dispositivo que se encuentra resaltado. Reduciendo el tamao del buffer disminuye la latencia. Cuando se empiezan a or crujidos o el audio distorsiona es necesario aumentar el tamao del buffer. El tamao del buffer ASIO est directamente relacionado con la latencia. Por lo tanto, usted desear obtener un valor relativamente bajo.

SOLUCIN DE PROBLEMAS
Cuando se modifica la configuracin de los dispositivos en el panel de control del driver Akiyama ASIO, es muy posible que el nmero de entradas y salidas disponibles cambie as como los nombres con los que se seleccionan estas entradas y salidas en el software. Por este motivo es recomendable reiniciar el programa de audio despus de realizar alguna modificacin en la configuracin del dispositivo si parece posible que el software no pueda manejar los cambios improvisadamente. Ms posibles problemas y soluciones: - El driver Akiyama no se encuentra visible en el men de configuracin del software de audio Puede haber dos motivos posibles por las que esto suceda: Puede ser que el software de audio no soporte drivers ASIO o que el driver haya sido instalado por un usuario sin privilegios. En el segundo caso, inicie sesin como administrador e instale el driver Akiyama ASIO de nuevo. Una vez se hayan instalado con xito, el driver Akiyama ASIO no debera necesitar privilegios de administrador para ejecutarse. - Dispositivo marcado como No disponible o Fuera de la Lgica a pesar de que ste no se est utilizando en otro lugar Debe asegurase de que el mezclador de Windows o algn software con un nombre parecido no est activado. En caso de que alguno de estos software puedan ser los culpables, intente reiniciar el software de audio. Cuando se cambia desde otro driver al driver Akiyama ASIO, es posible que el driver que estaba en uso previamente no libere el dispositivo de audio a tiempo.
