Dear Mr *****
KM
Welcome, dear reader. Thank you for opening the Scrapbook on your electronic device. If I were you, I'd keep it on there because it is so colourful, it will probably cost you a week's wages to print off. The Scrapbook is better known as the Christmas Catalogue of the Independent Paperback Gift Shop. For those of you with Facebook accounts, here is the address: http://www.facebook.com/TheIndependentPaperbackGiftShop?ref=hl In here, you'll find a hundred books written by Independent authors. That is, writers who don't work for one of the major publishers the so called Big Eight whose stranglehold on new writing has existed like a developing world dictatorship for sixty years. No more. Here you will find novels. Novellas. Anthologies. Fact. Fiction. Poetry. Children's books. Ideal and inexpensive Christmas Gifts. I'll bet you can find a gift in here for someone you know fairly well but not well enough to spend a fortune on. A prosperous relative who is difficult to buy for, maybe. A prodigious reader. A frustrated reader. A reader who has read everything King, Patterson, McDermid, Childs, Grafton, Meyer, Harrison, Herbert, Gregory, Cooper, Pratchett and the bloke who wrote Game of Thrones have come up with in the past decade. A bleak decade where published US and UK writing has retreated into a safe and cuddly comfort zone of its own making. Reading as a substitute for knitting in front of Strictly Come Dancing with a cup of cocoa and a butterscotch toffee sweetie. Not here. Buy a gift from this catalogue and this reader will experience something completely new. You might be unlucky and buy a book from a writer who shouldn't be in the same room as a word processor. Then again, you might get lucky and buy a book from a writer who is better than any of the previously mentioned potboiler constructors I can think of five off the top of my head; writers who, in any other era, would be published and read prodigiously. (Lauded maybe. One is so good, she's got agents crawling all over her like woodlice on bark.) That was a bygone era that didnt involve guaranteed publishing contracts for humdrum comics like Lee Mack and Miranda Harvey. Rancid bad ones like Russell Brand (and his ghost) have managed a couple. Can't be right, surely. That's the glory of it:The sheer glory of Independent Literature. The economic anarchy that followed the Black Death. The Wild West. The Grand National. Punk Rock. If it wasn't for the Clash, the Dolls, the Pistols and the Stranglers, we'd all still be listening to Oldfield and Dylan. So please. Have a browse. There are starving authors out there waiting to entertain you. And enrich your life. Stop buying J****** P******** (name of cash-absorbing idea vacuum famous author money sponge deleted for legal reasons) another yacht moored on St Tropez harbour next to some plundering Chechen oligarch, wrinkly rocker, or owner of a plastic Premier League football club . He doesn't need it. Mateys. The kindest of regards, Wiz Green NB: The views expressed above are personal and may or may not be shared by the authors and small press publishing companies highlighted in the Indielit Scrapbook..
Remember we are a community and if we stand together, we can succeed together. _____________________

Gods, kings, queens, vengeance, blood, love, lust and death in ninth century England...
(...and that's just for starters, guv!)
(Mary Ann Bernal: The Complete Briton and the Dane Trilogy 2010 2012) Friend of the Gift Shop, anglophile, historian, one woman helpdesk, top quality writer, Indielit guru, editor and font of all knowledge, if there is a more popular member of the Indie community than New York's finest, Mary Ann Bernal, I've yet to meet her.
Gwyneth loved to relax to the soothing melody of breaking waves as a cool, salty mist caressed her face, and also loved the rich and colorful hues of the darkening sky as the sun disappeared below the horizon. As her eyes became accustomed to the darkness, she was able to distinguish recognizable forms and shapes. She did not see the figure on the beach in full view but rather from the corner of her eye. She blinked a few times as she adjusted her vision, and believed she saw a shadow heading towards the fortress walls or was the silhouette heading towards the sea.

Mary Ann, why Buy Indie? Why not spend 50c on a Philippa Gregory from the bargain store?
I enjoy supporting Indie authors who are just as talented and hard-working as mainstream writers. The traditional route has rejected many a talented novelist whose stories deserve to be read, but with the advent of the digital age this is no longer the case. So many great stories are now available, and my list continues to grow.
I fell in love with medieval England after I read Sir Walter Scott's Ivanhoe. Then came the great Hollywood epics such as Knights of the Round Table, Prince Valiant, The Black Shield of Falworth and The Vikings, to name but a few. Add to the mix Camelot and an incurable romantic Anglophile was born! The Briton and the Dane novels are set in Ninth Century Anglo-Saxon Britain when the formidable Vikings terrorized the civilized world. The epic adventure runs the gamut of deception, treachery, intrigue, and complicated relationships during a time of war and conquest.

Honolulu, Frisco, Cross Plains, Texas, Charleston, South Carolina, nomadic aircraft mechanic and fictionalist K-Trina Meador has spent the summer in solitude and contemplation, always looking for the next story. An inspirational book reviewer, editor, voracious reader and tireless supporter of the Indie cause, she says she's addicted to writing and wherever she lays her notepad and pen is her home. _______________________
Daniel, like many others, stood out in the rain with his head up to the sky and his mouth opened. They never received enough water to drink, and with the weather so hot, they received even less water. They had no soap, but Daniel stripped off his clothes unashamedly and washed as much dirt off as possible. He felt clean even though he had no soap. The water was cleansing him and invigorated his spirit. Naked, he held up his clothes to get soaked and wrung them out. He put them back on wet. Many of the men followed him.

Ms. Meador is an incredibly talented author with the stunning ability to write in a manner that richly blesses the soul while entertaining the mind. AM Hunter Each time I had to put the it down, I couldn't wait until the next time I could pick it up and start reading again! Beth M I didn't want to put the book down, but life made me! MD This is such a compelling read! The intensity you build with language is captivating. There is a richness here, an authenticity which touches the soul. The "unforgiving" abuse of Marrissa was truly heartbreaking to read. Giving high stars to this very well-written piece. J Rose.

Rather than being about traditional vampires my book is about 'real vampires' or otherwise 'normal' people who need to drink blood. The idea started when I saw a documentary about people who claimed to drink blood and it ran from there really. Sanguinary has elements of horror, vampirism and romance all set to a rock n roll backdrop.

Emma, why Buy Indie? Why not spend 50p on a Stephanie Meyer from the charity shop?
Indie authors write because they have to, because they have a story to tell, to share with the world. And a number one bestseller from a big publishing house doesn't necessarily mean good writing. So buy Indie and you might just discover a hidden gem of a read." Who is Emma Edwards?: "I have a dark, maybe slightly twisted imagination, let's just say it's never going to be rainbows and fluffy bunnies with me." Wine and whisky is consumed and the passion is hot! Life and love isn't always a smooth ride though but then Angel's never been one to tow the line which is continuously reiterated to her by her sister Coral a.k.a "The perfect one". The characters are well developed with some essential background characters like Jay and Minnie thrown into the mixture. (Mad about books review, 2012) A fantastic read, the characters are down to earth normal people who by the end of the book will be your friends too, very well written, great story line, VERY VERY hard to put down, lost a few days of normal life, where all i could think about was the book and what was happening next. One of the most crystal clear and technically correct young writers I have come across. Her prose and descriptive acuity are worth close examination. and you'll be hearing a lot more from Suzanne, mark my words. (MAB, Green Wizard Publishing) New Book:
The interior of the club was dark, the walls painted a deep greenor perhaps even black. Life-size projections of Dizzie Gillespie and Miles Davis moved across the walls, living shadows in moribund dance. The patrons were a motley lot. Some were clad in sequins and feather boas, others sporting the slim-fit catsuits of the modern era, all engrossed in the speakeasy vibe of the club called Dixieland. The kid on stage dipped and swayed beneath the flickering blue and orange lights, the sax sitting snug in his fat cherub mouth. His lips, Cyrus decided, were made for caressing a wind instrument into sonorous ecstasy.. _________________________________________
Suzanne, why Buy Indielit? Why not spend a few euros on a Neil Gaiman graphic novel?
There's a misconception that 'indie' generally means poor quality. This isn't true at all. What indie does mean is freedom from the restrictive bonds imposed by traditional publishers who often pigeon hole books for marketting reasons. This is why I buy indie, to enjoy stories that defy genre and inspire the imagination.. Who is Suzanne Van Rooyen? There's no such thing as too much peanut butter and I will never get tired of travelling even when the cities start to look the same; writer, musician, dog-lover, beanie-knitter and more - one sentence just isn't enough. What sort of music are you into? I get the impression you're a rock chick. Does the music you like inspire your writing? Do you listen to music when you are writing? I have a really eclectic taste in music, just to give you a hint - the next few live events on my calendar are Prokofiev's Romeo & Juliet, followed by an arena concert by Placebo and then a club gig by the power metal band Dragonforce. Give me a minute to braid my hair and throw on some tie-dye and I'd be all set for an indie-electronicahippie festival. Pull on jeans and a band shirt and I'm ready to headbang the night away. I can also do fishnets and corsets when the mood is right for a night of sea weed dancing to everything from hardcore industrial to EBM and trad goth. I love the classics and am totally in love with Beethoven, Chopin, Debussy, Rachmaninov, Dvorak, Shostakovich, Scriabin and Tchaikovsky - wow, that's a lot of dead Russian guys. Obscura Burning
(Etopia Press, exp. December 7, 2012)
Tonight, I'm going to change the world, armed with Shira's turquoise bracelet and Danny's rosary, and with a rainbow sombrero perched on my head. Not quite the comic book superhero I'd have imagined. The shift was painless this time, no mind-searing headache or haemorrhaging eyes. It's a little disconcerting, not knowing why things have changed. Mya said she'd meet me here, up on the ridge overlooking the basketball courts. Coyote's Luck is mad with Independence Day fever. The thunder of fireworks ricochets up the street, bursting technicolor across the sky. Obscura's there too, sparkling blue, taunting me with her sapphire gaze
The body bag only seemed to suffocate more with Ethans mantra of vampire superiority
running through my head. I knew that I could survive, but simply surviving was pale light compared to thoughts of how much I could suffer through that wouldnt kill me. Sweat ran from every pore on my body, proving to me that we were back in Vegas, or some equally hot place. The black plastic burned my skin everywhere it touched, my face enduring the most of it when my arms got too tired to hold it up. I was not going to be pretty for a few hours after this jaunt. I could hear Nathaniel cursing somewhere beside me, undoubtedly being barbequed right along with me. The truck we were in the back of hit so many bumps on the way that my skull threatened to crack with the repeated blows. After a long torturous ride, we finally came to a stop. I was jerked from the bed, my head smacking against the ground, when they let me fall headfirst. My fangs sliced into the sides of my tongue gouging holes in my cheeks as well. Blood filled my mouth and helped me temper the pain radiating from my skull. A hiss escaped me, right before I heard another loud thud, and an even louder growl from Nathaniel. I had no doubt about his intentions for these men, if he got half the chance.

Indie authors pour their heart and soul into the books they produce. It's work from the moment they put their hands on the keyboard to the moment it becomes available for sale and beyond. We don't do it for a paycheck, We do it for our readers.

Delightful (and delighted) reader enjoys DOA while floating on a waterbed in Cancun
Naked and glowing, they lay on rugs and cushions before the fire, Angel eating lemon sorbet and Aidan smoking a cigarette. The wind outside had ceased its anger and the rain its velocity. A velvety evening embraced the lounge, as phrases of exquisite jazz touched their ears and Indian incense tickled their noses and it was here, like this that Angel was at her happiest. No clothes to clutter the human body energized with food and drink and warmed by the fire in the grate. No people to intrude, to demand or enquire of her to use her mind or steal her time. Just she and Aidan, together and as they held each other, an owl called outside and then again and again, until the answer came. Aidan began to kiss her. His mouth at first soft and gentle and then, as his hands sought her breasts, firmer and more impatient. She pulled back from him and looked into eyes of vibrant jade, sparkling and glittering with desire. She felt the warmth in her feet and legs as the flames caressed her, her skin swelling and prickling with excitement. Am I the mistress here? she whispered. No, said Aidan, pushing her onto her back. I am the master.
Biog: When I left school, I had no idea what I wanted to do but it's hard to envisage a time when I didn't write. My first piece was a poem aged 10, after visiting the Tutankhamen exhibition in London and, ever since, I've come home from new adventures and committed my thoughts and experiences to paper. My first piece of published (and paid!) writing was an article for the Dancing Times, after attending my first day of belly dance workshops in London, eight years ago. As a child, I read and wrote stories, losing myself in the lives of the characters, while in my early twenties, I wrote children's stories and short stories but it was on a two day writing course, nine years ago, that I believed I could be a writer. I liked the character I created on the course and, over the following three years, proceeded to write my first novel between school runs, children's clubs, family domesticity, cleaning other people's houses and stacking shelves in a supermarket. After attending Swanwick Writers Summer School for the second time last year, and receiving great advice and help, I made the decision to take time away from teaching dance and complete the current novel I was working on. 'Destiny of Angels' made me a novelist.
Noted children's story creator Ngaire Elder enjoyed DOA and strongly recommends it.

Destiny of Angels - The Lilith Trilogy
Delightful, Charming, Adorable, Captivating, Enchanting, Refreshing....Need I really go on? Cecilia, a ten year adventuress finds herself a friend while collaborating to escape and survive the many dangers of The Brimstone Forest. The book was easy to read and I was easily able to relate to Cecilia! (K Meador, Amazon)
Cecilia started to feel very, very dizzy. She flopped to the ground and Flurry came and lay beside her, panting wildly. She lay there gazing at the big, fluffy, white clouds floating in the sky. She could see different shapes in the clouds: a face with a long, pointy nose drifted past; the Loch Ness Monster glided through the sky, followed by a space ship, a canoe and a gigantic snail. The cotton-ball clouds started moving faster, swirling and whirling. She shut her eyes to make them stop, but before you could say, Dont dilly-dally down daydream alley a witch had zoomed down on her jet-propelled broomobile. Flurry barked and growled, and Cecilia sprung to her feet. Quick run for it! she shouted to Flurry. But it was too late. The witch swooped down and swept Cecilia onto her broomobile. The witch and Cecilia hurtled into the sky, high above the treetops and disappeared into the clouds, together with Cecilias cry for help.

It seems that correct use of the magnificent language of Chaucer, of Sir Thomas More, of Swift, of Johnson and of the greatest exponent of them all,
Shakespeare, is no longer considered an asset. It is no longer something to boast about: In fact, it seems to be a skill to be decried, to be sneered upon and sniggered at. OMG. Whatever!. In such a world, Sue Lobo is a shining beacon that shines straight in the faces of the iconoclasts, the lazy, the trendy, the textmen, the messengerwomen, the MA in Creative Writing, the kitchen sink philosophers, the goatee bearded naysayers. Like many educated in the old colonies of a now bankrupt and discredited empire, Sue brings to the table a copious vocabulary, beautifully punctuated, with flawless balance and an eye for semantic detail. Even if you are not generally a reader of memoir, like me, I read this and marvelled at her ability with the pen. It's like stepping back fifty years where even the thug, the blackguard, the footpad, the black market spiv and the lounge bar waistrel knew the difference between a semi-colon and a colon. Read this and a different world is yours.
Wherefore art those golden days, whence one put feathered quill to ancient
parchment to impart thine missive to thou beloved devine afar across yonder horizon, sealed with a tender kiss from ruby lip, flown by soft feathered dove & delivered into the quivering hand of thou beloved. And wherefore art those moments when the object of thine hearts devotion retrieves the sepia parchment from betwixt the plumed carriers pearly beak with swift gratitude & silky caress, & with bated breath & thudding heart he inhales his loves aroma of rose petal & lavender that foretells what valoured page sayeth before the sealing wax has crisply cracked & reveals the hidden script relating the oldest history in time.-never-ending love. For fans of innovative, angry, wisftful, often complex, soulful, melancholy, funny, elegaic and always inspiring poetry chock full of the very best of the English language, don't miss Sue's quite brilliant blog.
The Poet: By Sue Lobo Ive Long tired of the sweating hands of groping, grasping men, Of cheap thrills, one-night-stands, their ignorance of word & pen, Of sweet-nothings adrift on winds & spoken words unheard, Butchers of men, knowing only of flesh & nothing of the word. Give me not the blusterings & slobberings of dithering dolts, From whose unwanted fumblings, I must undoubtedly bolt, Give me the poet who speaks through eloquent, erudite pen, Give me the poetic warblings & words of romantic men.

Blah, Blah, Blah Everyone I know is writing a book, Everyone I meet is a budding poet, We all do blogs, twitter & face book, And we make sure that everyone will know it. We tell of our loves, the good & the failed, We divulge secrets to strangers unknown, We await the messages & hoped to be mailed, We cannot stand the thought of not being known. We click LIKE & leave comments galore, Never a negative word do we leave, Telling unseen faces that we want to see more, The appreciation society well always believe. All those words, poems & stories are fine, But do we write just for fun & not the fame? Among all posted words, I admit, some are mine, But when I leave this earth, who the hell will remember my name?
Give me not the horn-handed grasping, of sensitive reticent breasts, Those greedy robbing hands, that I feel obliged to always arrest, Give me men, from times of the existence of the true gentlemen, And Ill show you a lady, from the times, when a lady knew when.
Open me the pages of old books & poetry, & not of open thighs, Word me with sonnets & I shall reward you with passionate sighs, Manners made man, in those days when manners were good, Show me the poet, the man, who stands where morals are good. Wine me & dine me, but preferably rhyme, scribe & line me, With verses of old wisdom & of ancient Bards entwine me, With poetry, youll always woo, lure & entice me dear, And with your secret wooing words I shall fo rever hold you near.

(Jessica McHugh: PINS 2012) Sassy, upbeat, a joker, in-your-face, modern and a damned fine writer, Jessica has been making stirring things up in Indielit circles for the past three years. PINS has been tipped by shrewd judges as her breakthrough novel.
Buy PINS and other Jessica McHugh novels here: www.amazon.com/JessicaMcHugh/e/B003NUKAA4/ref=sr_ntt_ srch_lnk_2?qid=1350146871&sr=1-2
Fans of horror, pulp, hard crime, depictions of very beautiful young women, hot dialogue and fast, pulpy tales wont be disappointed and Id recommend it for a plane journey from New York to Chicago. (MAB, Green Wizard Publishing) `PINS' is a great novel, well written, well paced and absorbing. The writing is very visual and descriptive leaving no confusion to what is happening.... I could almost smell the blood at times! I loved Birdie's voice, her sarcasm and humour made her character real and I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a gritty read. (MJ, Amazon) ______ Jessica McHugh is an author of speculative fiction that spans the genre from horror and alternate history to epic fantasy. A prolific writer, she has devoted herself to novels, short stories, poetry, and playwriting. And, according to her, a weirdo smiley pie! She has published twelve books including the bestselling "Rabbits in the Garden," "The Sky: The World" and the gritty coming-of-age thriller, "PINS." She is married (to Dave) and lives an extremely busy life of science, literature and parties somewhere in deepest West Virginia.
The banner for pageant sign-ups was still hanging over the door, waving away those who didn't belong. For the first time, I wasn't one of those people. I was so confident, in fact, that I'd forgotten what I looked like. Most of my wounds were dressed, but my clothes were still filthy. Dried patches of blood cracked whenever I moved, sometimes causing scrapes to weep again, and my matted, dirty hair kept falling into my face. But despite my ghastly appearance, I marched into that building like I was taking the stage at Pins. Everything else fell away. It was just me and the droves of suckers eager to empty their wallets..

Jess, why Buy Indie? Why not spend 50c on a Sue Grafton from the Salvation Army sale?
I encourage people to buy indie books because they are often the most unique stories out there.
From dark urban fantasy to crystalline punk-victorian, Ive found several indie books to be the quirkiest and most touching pieces of literature Ive ever had the pleasure of calling forever mine.
What is the main function of a writer? To entertain? To inform? To educate? To make money?
It depends what kind of writer you are, I suppose. For me, I just want to entertain people. If they learn something, that's awesome, but my goal is to tell interesting stories that twist people's imaginations, perhaps a little further than ever before. Making money would be great, but despite my outlandish nature, I'm a bit too realistic to say I write for the money.

Danny Marble is an expert on things that go bump in the night, but it's the last thing he wants to be. He'd gladly trade his expertise for a full night of sleep: something he hasn't had in over three years. Tortured into insomnia by scary things at home and taunted for insomnia by children at school, Danny is desperate to rid himself of his torments and all aspects of his fear. But he soon realizes that his scary things are unlike the usual phantoms conjured by a child's mind and fear is not something easily conquered. His quest calls him into strange worlds, from an island of dreams to the mythical Hades, where his path to salvation may lie in facing fears he didn't even know he had.

Indie writers write with the same heart and soul as the writers who go through traditional publishers, but we work a hundred percent more to get our work seen and appreciated because we are standing on unfamiliar ground. We have to learn the steps of success through each other and understanding our own being. We can only wish to be half as successful as authors who have the backing of a publisher to do the hard work for them.
We are totally proud to be Indie writers and we enjoy what success we have.

thrash metal band. They are the brainchild of ageing lead guitarist Phil Winter. They represent his big hope for regaining his former musical self-esteem and his luck with the ladies. Phil had to hastily exit stage left from his last band when his dalliances with the drummer's fiancee were discovered. Young singer and underachiever Nick loves the band because it provides an escape from his dull job in a supermarket. For rhythm guitarist Ian it's all he's ever wanted to do. For bass player Jim it's a pleasant hobby, at least to begin with. For drummer Paul it's a step up from being in a covers band and a sometime causer of arguments between him and his wife. A band is much more than just the musicians in it, it's a whole ecosystem. A female perspective is given by close friends Cleo and Jenni as the Pandas play to and hang out with an audience comprised of friends, fans, wives, girlfriends, future girlfriends, lovers, promoters, other bands, interested spectators and uninterested spectators. After a nervous first gig in their native Reading they play in Swindon, Coventry, Oxford, Dudley, Brighton, Birmingham and Camden. In between gigs they mostly go to the pub, eat biscuits, record an E.P, read a girl's guide to heavy metal written by Cleo, practice and make grandiose plans for their future. Occasionally they get laid. Even more occasionally they get paid to play. This is a niche novel and proud of it. If you're into

Satan, indeed, lost the war in Heaven but the "true" history of Heaven has been obscured and turned into propaganda by God for his own political purposes. Unlearning everything they've been taught, the newly arrived must be swayed into staying in Hell or risk an afterlife of slavery. I loved this book. Once I started to read it, I really couldn't put it down. The book was an easy read. Characters were well developed and essential to the story line. It was definitely a shocker. Full of suspense and heart ache. LOVED IT!!! I can't wait to get started on the next book. (Lisa J Patelski, Amazon)
Cairin dei Theras, the man hissed in perfect Old Tongue, and bowed mockingly, never taking his eyes off hers. We finally meet. He made to walk closer. Do not move, said Ahloren softly, a clear warning in her tone, and was surprised when he stopped his advance. I have not given you permission to approach me. The man snorted derisively, and said, Permission, Ahloren, really? His eyes narrowed. Your authority means nothing to me, little Cai. Before this day is over you will either be kneeling at my feet begging for your life, or youll be dead. The choice is yours. The malevolence radiating from him was beginning to make her feel ill, and it took every scrap of willpower she had not to reveal what she was thinking and feeling. She had an idea this was not a uman man standing before her but something much worse.

Indie authors have written their works from a place of complete freedom and pure instinct, untainted by another's dictates. Traditional publishers tend to mold and manipulate works to suit their own visions whereas Indies are wild and unfettered creatures who pour out their hearts directly onto the page! Extract: High above them, gantries ran back and forth, people moving over them with rattling footsteps. To look up gave a sense of inverted vertigo, eyes instead forced to settle on the windows. Nestled among the gantries was a huge airship, bolts and ropes shot into the floor to hold it still. Beneath the inflated envelope dangled a gondola like none he had ever seen. It ran the length of the massive ship, arching delicately upward like the bow of a ship. At the stern, two propellers dropped down beneath it and, to the fore, the gondola was decorated with guns. _________________________________________

Rick Brewer turned back to watch the Marine Drill Team, now performing flawlessly as the unfortunate youth was out of the formation, doing push-ups in his dress uniform. Regime change, he gave a slight grunt, fancy way of saying Assassination. Perhaps, Mr. Brewer, but it has a more polite ring to it. The fat man took a large manila envelope from his jacket and took one step toward the Assassins back. She wore a diaphanous white scarf that streamed behind her in the warm wind as though she were a perfect, ivory kite with a gossamer tail. Charlie walked behind her, trailing by ten feet, fifteen, thirty. With each foot of separation, the scarf grew, unfurling from Gabrielles neck until it formed an unlikely sail behind her forty feet long. Charlie, as did the two females behind him, wore deep, almost opaque sunglasses. The sunlight refracted from the glass beads of sand shimmered in a blinding kaleidoscope. The light danced against Gabrielles white outfit, making it seem alive with color. _________________________________________

With traditional publishing, you know exactly what youre getting what youve always gotten. Indie publishers can afford to explore themes ignored by big publishers. Together, guided by Robin's deceased sister, they discover a singular talent - the ability to walk into and influence others' dreams. Wayne, why Buy Indie?
Why let your reading choices be dictated by traditional publishers? The advent of indie publishing, especially in various electronic formats, has given otherwise unknown voices a chance to tell their story; whatever it might be. We are all richer for it. Describe yourself in one sentence: Whether through poetry, short stories or novels, I like to tell stories. What attracted you to the Western ? Growing up in Montana with its history certainly didnt hurt. I read a lot of westerns by James B Hendryx, Zane Gray, William Colt MacDonald, Max Brand and many others. It was, in many ways, a time of simpler morals. Right was right and wrong was wrong. Not a lot of gray areas. One was judged far more on actions than on words. I think an author of Westerns must reflect that idea within the framework of the story. How do readers find out more about you?: greenwizard62@blogspot.co.uk

An awkward looking, depressed, but sincere older man who is happy to take on her daughter. Hes a saviour, a way back to her past and shes tempted, but entwined in her life is Tyrone, a feckless, alluring, charismatic young rapper: Someone she cant quite get out of her head. As her bodywork reaches a conclusion, with one story left to emblazon, Emily is forced to choose: Alan? Or Tyrone? Who will be symbolised by the very last tattoo? Rebecca took me aside one dinner time in the refectory and told me she regretted introducing me, that he was a bad sort and that I should dump him. He was dangerous and possibly a pervert. Several of the students at the college had slept with him and she thought I would just f**k him and move on like they had. Get the black thing out of the way. Almost all the girls at the college wanted to try to go to bed with a black man just for the experience and plenty did. She regretted introducing me because I was green and I fell for him and she should have seen that. She counselled me to forget him. Had she said that two months before she did, I would have been annoyed, probably seriously annoyed, but because I was thinking of Luke more and more, I wasnt offended at all and realised she was right; he had to go.

why publishers think the wit and wisdom of shit comedians, knocker jockeys, reality dribblers, Z-Listers, bit part actors and crap musicians are worth a book when they can barely sign their own name on a cheque. It's time for revolution. Publishers have betrayed an entire generation of young writers by convincing the reading public that celebrity is the main criteria for a book deal. All hail Kindle and Createspace. The scene is ripe for change. Just like when the Pistols blew the dinosaurs out of the water in '76 and like it or not, if Amazon exert a degree of editorial control and force Indies into investment in editing etc, then there won't be a publisher left in the world of fiction by 2020. And I for one think thats a good thing. They betrayed us. We shall have our revenge.

The race transpired in front of silent shouts in the sparsely- populated stands, the ghosts of a million railbirds witnessing from the empty seats. Millions of dollars would be bet today, but much of it would be wagered from the comfort of armchairs, laptops on suburban poolside tables. This change in the tastes of consumers ensured that track atmosphere became another slain victim of the internet, the crowd as silent as church mice - except for the wild yelping from those lucky enough to back the two horse which won by an easy three lengths. In the final hundred yards, the big man was cheering on the jockey on the two horse, for all he was worth. Bishop smiled, but didnt cheer. Ramirez, who had returned to his seat mid-race, almost did though: Hed had twenty bucks on the nose. It took a sideways glance from the older man to remind him to stay on the clock.

I love everything Paranormal, especially Vampires and after seeing the TV show Moonlight, I was inspired to write my first novel "The Man of my Dreams." I am a big fan of Alex O'loughlin who was the lead on Moonlight and also love the concept behind Dexter, so my hero is kind of Mick St John meets Dexter! Although my books are a work of fiction, there is an element of realism too as a lot of material comes from my own life. Quite a few of my characters are based on real life people too.

My life certainly didn't pan out the way I had expected. I fought for my life and nearly died from cancer at the age of 23. From that point forward, everything changed. However, change is like a glacier and it moves at it's own plodding pace. My experience with cancer taught me a valuable lesson - don't allow life to just "happen" around you. Make changes, take risks and be true to your own heart. After 11 years, I'm finally acting upon those lessons learned. I left a comfy career in my hometown to travel the world as an enterprise consultant. My wife and I lived in Vietnam for a month while we adopted our son. And I'm now listening to that ever-present voice telling me I'm an artist. Words and stories are my craft, and I hope you find some joy and surprises in my fiction. Matthew Plourde

Chronicles of My Life with a Blonde!
Chronicles of My Life with a Blonde is an epic and hilarious tale of antics of a male blonde spouse and the descent of his brunette wife into the depths of insanity. These stories are true, the participants are not actors. They are actual humans with a life . pending in Washington State, only their identities have been changed to protect the innocent... ...and themselves from pending lawsuits. Anyone resembling these characters will be prosecuted for identity theft. Any similarities... ...well, you have our sympathies. No actual animals were harmed in the making of this book... blondes were, unfortunately. No spoilers, you'll have to buy the book!

So, what are you waiting for? Clearance price? Come on, buy the book. You know you want to... it will give you that joke you were looking for for the office party. I read it all in one day and couldn't stop laughing. The images/stories are classic "blonde jokes" that happen to a man, not a woman. With a tongue in cheek attitude this book doesn't demean blondes, rather it shows the many human foibles in a humorous manner. With a writing style similar to Garrison Keillor it's a very easy read and I was actually a little disappointed when I finished the book. I didn't want it to end. (Amazon)

I got hooked on the book during the first few chapters. It was dark and entertaining. The book took a lighter turn though making it more age appropriate. That said, I do wish the dark forboding kept on. Maybe as Holly grows up the situations will darken and suit my tastes better. Most ages will enjoy this book but I think it is ideal for the young adult market at the younger spectrum specifically. I cant wait to see what happens to Holly as she grows older and her schooling intensifies.

Bren Woodard had taken her share of beatings as a child in the privacy of what others called her home. Then as a teen she put up with having kids push her around, while most put vulgar statements toward her last name. Now in her late twenties she had taken to one of those very names, Woody, and paid great attention to all who had hurt her. Bren found her love for handmade, wooden weapons from the very yard stick that was used on her as a child by her abusive father, to the things she now carried concealed to protect herself. Little did anyone know that she had sharpened that very yard stick and planted it into her fathers chest when she was a mere seventeen, making others believe that in a drunken stupor, he had fallen upon it. I buy Indie because authors pour out their hearts into their work,
and I love 'off the beaten path'. I find that Indie authors are truly passionate about their work, and more than once, I have found brilliant books that I read over and over by Indie authors. Wei en Chen, Pennsylvania
I buy Indie books because I believe there are SO MANY writers that are EXCELLENT in their genre and get turned down by Publishers. I think the way to go is INDIE, they work so hard and do the work, the marketing, editing, etc. I think this is certainly worth buying and reading something I know was created from scratch and not changed in any way...Patricia Nally, Brooklyn
There are so many great new authors out in the marketplace trying to be read. Typically, most people buy works by well know authors and never get beyond the well established publications. After having read several books by new and independent authors, I have come to realize that there are some wonderful stories waiting to be recognized and read. I have read some exciting and amazing stories that have entertained me, gotten me to think deeper, taught me some new things. There is so much new talent out there for us to enjoy. Reading and buying Indie provides a "win win" for both authors and readers. I will continue to open my mind and receive some pleasant surprises. (Susan Gervasi, Pallatine, Illinois)
Read one King...you've read them all...(Kimble, Seattle)
I buy indie because everyone has a story to tell and I want to hear it. Publishers be damned! (Barbara Chen, New York)
I buy indie because the first book being written is from the heart; All heart and soul is put in to the book. Also the book is written by the author not his or hers ghost writer. (Stephanie Matulich, Virginia)
Independence is close to God's Heart (KB, Jacksonville)
For me, Independent literature is a lucky dip. You can experience everything from joy, to hatred, to frustration, dislike, love, revelation, anger, disappointment and enlightenment. Publishers have forgotten how to take risks. Its the safe option every time, My Kindle is fill of risk and danger and thats the way books ought to be. (Pete Sanchez, Manchester)
I have read some great stories, downloaded onto my Kindle, that were by Indie authors. I would recommend many of these to friends and family. These indie authors have turned me on to finding more great stories not yet found by the big publishing companies. So much talent, so little time! (Michaela Hawley, Omaha, Nebraska)
Those who the Gods seek to destroy, they first make mad. (Euripides)
