CINEMA 4d MO-GRAPH & DYNAMICS ANIMATION

Grade Level: College 100 Level

Subject: Motion Graphics Prepared by: Bob Thompson

Overview and Purpose: For students to create a realistic 3d animation using Cinema 4D v13 Mo-Graph- Simulation with Rigid and Collider tags, thus gain a better understanding of the dynamics engine. Educational Standards STANDARD 1 DESIGN Candidates demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to design conditions for learning by applying principles of instructional systems design, message design, instructional strategies, and learner characteristics. 1.1 Instructional Systems Design: Instructional Systems Design (ISD) is an organized procedure that includes the steps of analyzing, designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating instruction. 1.2 Message Design: Message design involves planning for the manipulation of the physical form of the message. 1.3 Instructional Strategies: Instructional strategies are specifications for selecting and sequencing events and activities within a lesson. Objectives: At the end of this lesson, the student will be able to:

demonstrate the use of Mo-graph and simulation tags show the steps and make adjustments in physics engine in mo-graph apply this to a 3d animation within Cinema 4d

Materials Needed: Cinema 4d v13 Internet Access for additional tutorial help Other Resources: (websites, videos, books, etc.) http://www.maxon.net http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4eFz6jOh8e0 Information:

Discuss the project before hand and go over the different tag variables that change the dynamics of the animation. Discuss how to stop and start animation when a change has been made. Discuss the physics of Mass, gravity, and inertia as it pertains to the cinema 4d setup. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Open Cinema 4d and create floor using add floor object Create a 50x50x50 cube using add floor object Add simulation tags to each object - rigid to cube, Collider to floor Move cube up 300cm on X axis Play to view animation Adjust variable (mass, bounce, etc.) to create a more realistic animation

Verification: Steps to check for student understanding

1 2 3

Ask questions pertaining to each students animation View animations while students are working Discuss the variables within the simulation tags and discuss

Activity: Allow 30 minutes to create and another 15 to render project 1. 2. 3. 4. Have students create a new project and save Each student can add texture and light to scene to create a more realistic look Check each Rigid body and collider tags for viable physics combination Have each student play animation in real-time to check if done correctly

Notes Accommodations: Students may wait for render if time becomes an issue. Animation and physics can be cached and saved for later output. Assessment: Instructor can assess if cube interacts with floor in a realistic manor.
