Inspirational Message:
Sister Gaudelia P. Baluyot, SPC, Perpetual Succour Hospital-Nursing Directress, Ms. Priscilla P. Bacayo, Eversley Childs Sanitarium-Chief Nurse, USJR CON Faculty and Staff, Parents and Guardians and the candidates for the 8th Capping, Badge Investiture and Candlelighting Ceremony, Good Morning! When you stepped inside the portals of this university you have made a commitment to yourself and to those around you/ that you will BE someday be a NURSE. Now, you are standing at the crossroads. You have chosen a noble profession and it will take a lot of sacrifices in order to achieve your goal. This is the moment that you will truly feel that you are on your way to what you have dreamed of becoming. You are on your first step, in which the road ahead is still long and winding and most of the time you will be on an uphill climb. You will therefore need strength to overcome all the obstacles to get to that one goal and I hope you will not lose sight of that along the way. What is the significance of your nurses cap? In the older times, a womans humility and obedience were denoted by the veil she wore and the cap on her head, this was the very premise that the nurses cap was based upon. The cap symbolizes responsibility. It also means humility and the ability to work on any area assigned to her or him. Why the color white? Because it represents simplicity and symbolizes morality, purity of intention, goodness, cleanliness, faith, beginnings, sterility, humility, softness and perfection. A nurses character must be impeccable, a person who will be a role model, a person to admire and to follow. The males are given badges instead of caps and these too have the same symbolism of duty and commitment, setting aside his own personal interests but rather the promotion of a healthy people, environment/ and a society. Now as you receive your caps and badges remember that as Nurses we are in a unique position to belong to a profession that combines science and technology with tender caring and a desire to improve public health and encourage wellness. Nursing provides you a way to make a difference in your life, your patients lives, the life of the community in which you serve. Nursing is, after all, a service profession. You will be serving the sick and promoting health in the community. You will serve the disenfranchised of society and those who reside in upscale communities. You will see them as equals. And They are your responsibility. They are your patients. AS Nurses WE SHOULD work hard. We shouldl make decisions on the fly that will affect lives and make lasting impressions on those you care for. You will give of yourself until you have to dig from the depths of your soul to keep on giving. You will occasionally leave work exhausted, frustrated, and maybe angry. You will be present at the beginning of life and you will be there guiding a patient and their family through the process of dying. You will receive untold rewards from your patients. Perhaps it will be a heartfelt thank you. Or a simple sweetness from a shy smile of a toddler. Maybe it will be the satisfaction of watching an anxious patient in pain relaxing and sleeping for the first time in a day. But let me tell you the greatest reason for choosing to be a nurse When you walk out of that job, whether be it in a hospital, a clinic or a home, you will leave with the knowledge that you made a difference in someones life. And you will be touched by those same lives. In the end,/ even considering the benefits, the flexibility, the income and the respect you will receive as a nurse. Making a difference in your patients lives is the best reason of all. And then/ they say it is an easy profession? Remember this, when youre a nurse you know that everyday you will touch a life or a life will touch yours. ADELANTE!

Lastly I would like to share with the requirements of being a full pledged nurse: Nurses are required to have the following: The memory of an elephant An angels patience A heart the size of the sun Eyes on the back of your head A nasal filter 8 arms like an octopus Resistant legs A back strong enough to hold and transfer full grown adults A 5-liter bladder and An impenetrable immune system And then they say it is an easy profession? ADELANTE! .
