2. ITANJE
Zadatak 3
Read the text and choose the correct answer to the questions below:
HOW TO DEAL WITH PRESSURE FROM PARENTS

Most parents just want what is best for their children. But their ideas of what is
best are usually different from yours. Thats why they start pressuring you. Then
you get angry and start fighting with them. So the situation gets even worse. If
you think you need help, here is some advice for you:
Stay calm even if they repeat something tens of times. If you want your parents
to listen to what you have to say, say it in a reasonable tone. Dont scream, cry
or get angry. This shows that you are mature enough to have a discussion, not a
fight.
Of course, you must be ready to have this discussion. You need to prepare
and then explain your ideas clearly. It is better to find some true statistical facts
because most parents believe statistics. This will help you show that you are right
and they are wrong.
Also try to find an expert on your father (or mother). Think of family and friends
who know how your parents minds work. It could be your aunts and uncles,
grandparents, family friends. Dont forget that your older brothers/sisters have
survived probably the same pressure so ask them to help you.
No doubt that you already know that lifes not fair. It is not realistic to expect
to do what you want all the time. Show your parents that you are willing to
compromise. Try to find a middle ground something that you can all agree
upon. Parent pressure can make your home a living hell but these hints should
make the pressure smaller. Then hopefully you will all meet in the middle. This is
what we all do in our relationships.

Zadatak 4
Read the text and choose from the titles A-I the one which fits each gap (1-8). There is
one extra title which you do not need to use.
JOIN US IN THE NEXT IAYC!!!
1..........................
Every summer the International Astronomical Youth Camp (IAYC) takes place
somewhere in Europe. About seventy young people from many different countries live
together for three weeks. The IAYC is different from most astronomical camps because
of its international character and the fact that you will do your own small research
project.
2..........................
You must be between 16 and 24 and able to communicate in English. We use English
throughout the entire camp. The aim of this is to discourage people from the same
country or language group from spending all their time together. Your English need not
be perfect but you should be able to have a normal conversation without a dictionary.
3..........................
The IAYC day starts with breakfast at 12:00 (noon). After breakfast, the first working
group session takes place. The working group sessions last about two hours, and after
that there is some free time. You can participate in one of the sports competitions, learn
how to develop photos, build and launch micro-rockets, take a walk with your friends...
you choose. After dinner, its NAP time (NAP stands for Non-Astronomical Programme),
then a 2-hour evening session. Around midnight we have a light meal and if the sky is
clear we observe. Three days are reserved for a special NAP programme, an excursion
and a free day.
4..........................
Most of the astronomical activities in the camp take place in working groups. There
are eight working groups; each one has about 8 participants and one leader who
is responsible for the group. Every member of the group works on his or her project,
either alone or in groups of 2 or 3. At the end of the camp, everybody will write a small
report on the project and all these reports are then gathered in a book which will be
sent to you after the camp. This makes a nice souvenir and a good way to know what
everybody worked on during the camp.
5..........................
Doing astronomy for three weeks without anything else drives you nuts. Thats why
every day after dinner, there is an anything-but-astronomy activity with the entire
group: group games, singing evenings, discussions and many more things.

14

6..........................
The IAYC 2008 will be in a very pleasant youth hostel called Jugendherberge
Sayda in a small town in Germany. The house offers plenty of space for all
participants and working groups. The fee for accommodation, full board and the
whole program, including the excursion, will be 550 Euro. A limited number of grants
is also available.
7..........................
Detailed information about IAYC 2008 will be made available in December 2007. If
you want to know more about the IAYC, or if you want to participate in next years
camp, then email us at info@iayc.org.

Tekst 1
You will hear an interview with the musician Robbie Williams. He is talking about his
new album "Rudebox", his memories and his fame.
SPIEGEL: Mr Williams, several lyrics of your new album "Rudebox" are about the same
theme: Robbie Williams. Are you your greatest fan?
WILLIAMS: Well spotted. But everything I do has to do with me. Plus it is nostalgic.
SPIEGEL: You mean because it reminds you of the eighties? A decade that you
experienced as a teenager and that many music critics see as the synonym for bad
taste.
WILLIAMS: But the one in which I first developed something like an identity. I
discovered my love for pop. I was enthusiastic about hip-hop and break dance and
found everything great that somehow sounded electric. And I tie my album to the
first memories. Its the first real Robbie Williams album.
SPIEGEL: You have sold more then 50 million records and filled football stadiums
around the planet. Why is it so hard for you to deal with critique?
WILLIAMS: Because it is never about my work, about my music. The attacks are
always targeted at me personally.
SPIEGEL: What are you jealous about?
WILLIAMS: About good songs.
SPIEGEL: The last good song you have heard?
WILLIAMS: "Angels".
SPIEGEL: Thats your own hit.
WILLIAMS: Right. Id rather like to say whom I adore: the U2 singer Bono for example,
because it seems he can deal with people very relaxed. But if you insist on an
answer: I envy the people whose life is less complicated than mine.
5SPIEGEL: A complicated life is normal when you are famous.
WILLIAMS: I know. You get used to it and still youre shocked every now and then.
When I go down to the hotel bar, everyone in the room looks at me. Even if most
people try to do it decently, I feel the eyes on me.
SPIEGEL: When was the last time you did not get recognised?
WILLIAMS: When I was sitting alone in my room a few minutes ago.
SPIEGEL: Mr Williams, thank you very much for this talk.

You will hear a mother talking about her daughters computer skills.
COMPUTER PROBLEMS? CALL A 9-YEAR-OLD
My friend Jennifer called last week with a problem. Nobody in her family knew
how to decorate her daughters house in Club Penguin, a popular childrens Internet
game. It was an emergency, and I got the call for help on my answering machine.
Jennifers voice said: I know little about computers and you are not good either. So, will
you please send over Sarah? My daughter Sarah? The fifth-grader??
I realised that Jennifer is right. Of all of us, Sarah worked with her laptop as easily
as Mozart played the piano.
I found her in her bedroom, composing an e-mail message for her father asking him
to buy some new Windows program that she wanted. Can you visit Jennifer tomorrow?
I asked. Let me check, she said, clicking on her Google calendar. O.K., but I have to
be back for a play date at noon.
And that was how my youngest daughter started working as a computer support
specialist. Its a job that requires strong problem-solving skills and paid an average annual
salary of $44,350. There were 514,460 people who had this job title last year.
The next day, Jennifer paid Sarah $10 for an hours work. Then Sarah went home,
found her father trying to understand the new Windows program he had bought. She
explained that to quit it, it was first necessary to shut down all the windows. Or something
like that.
