Ok,letmejustfirstexplainthetitle.Thetitle"DrugWarZone"referstothisregion,ElPasoand(Ciudad)Jurez,andthecurrentwar betweenthe"carteldeJurez"andthe"carteldeSinaloa."So,it'sallaboutthat.Butthere'sasecondmeaningforthetitlewhichisthatI usethatconcept,thedrugwarzone,torefertosortoftheculturalwaroverdrugsandtheirmeanings,whoshouldhaveaccesstothem, whoshouldcontrolthem,etc. Whendidyoustartwritingthebook? Aboutfiveyearsago.It'smainlyoralhistoriesofpeopleinvolvedindrugtrafficking.That'sabouthalfthebookandtheotherhalfis peopleinlawenforcementthatarefightingdrugtraffickers. You'vesaidthatthebookapproachesdrugtraffickingaswork.Whydidyouchoosetoapproachthesubjectthatway? Youtalkedtopeoplewhowereallpartofthatsomehow.Wasthereanystorythatparticularlyimpactedyou? Whatwasoneofthebiggestobstaclesthatyoufacedwhenyouwrotethebookandweretryingtotellthesestories?
