1. (a) What are the functional problems in pattern recognition system design? Explain. (b) What are the design concepts and methodologies of pattern recognition system? [8+8] 2. The following decision functions are given for a 3 - class problems: d1 (x) = - x1 , d2 (x) = x1 + x2 1, d3 (x) = x1 x2 1 (a) Assume than these functions were determined under multiclass case (i) and sketch the decision boundaries and regions for each pattern class. (b) Assume case (2) conditions and cutting d12 (x) = d1 (x), d13 (x) = d2 (x) and d23 (x) = d3 (x) above, sketch the decision boundaries and regions for multiclass case(2). [8+8] 3. Assume that the following pattern classes have the normal probability density functions: 1 = {(0, 0)1 , (2, 0)1, (2, 2)1, (0, 2)1 } and 2 = {(4, 4)1 , (6, 4)1, (6, 6)1, (4, 6)1 }
