Whats new in Plimmerton? November 2012

Keep your family and property safe
October report from community constable Jonathan Westrupp Thefts from houses, vandalism and vehicle theft at night in northern Plimmerton have spiked in recent weeks. Has somebody new moved into the area? Please keep a watch over your streets for suspicious behaviour. A car was broken into at Pukerua Bay over the weekend. Offenders wait for people to park their cars and head off for a walk, knowing this gives them time to break into the car and steal whatever is there. The police would like more 111 calls reporting suspicious behaviour. Note make of vehicle and registration number and descriptions of people behaving suspiciously. For example offenders may: walk down the street looking into parked cars and trying doors ... they look for unlocked cars and target the coin tray for starters. approach houses looking for easy items to steal ... if confronted they often make up an excuse about finding a lost dog or finding an address. convert a room in their house to grow cannabis using indoor plant growing lighting. They may be selling to people visiting the address. target copper and sell it to scrap metal dealers ... copper spouting and hot water cylinders in particular. Jonathan urges us to report all such suspicious behaviour to Crimestoppers www.crimestoppers-nz.org Its anonymous, and I can assure you that we investigate every crime reported. You can now read regular reports from Jonathan on our website.

Ara Harakeke shared walkway completion on hold for rail upgrade

The final section of Ara Harakeke Walkway between Pukerua Bay and Paremata was scheduled for completion last year. A rail spokesperson tells us that there are still upgrades to be completed which involve the area of the proposed fence and path widening. They say that this work will be completed in the next six months. Meanwhile work will start on the section of walkway just over the railway crossing with pavement widening up to where the new fence will be erected. And the section of walkway from the south end of the station alongside Mainline Steam coming out at the Plimmerton Domain will also get under way. Confused? We will put a diagram and information on the website during November.
