October 6, 2012 CCSD Human Resources: Hello and thank you for taking the time to read this cover letter! Today, I am very excited to be applying for the position of a General Resource Teacher with the Clark County School District. As a qualification for this position, I am a graduate of Nevada State Colleges Teacher Prep Program, with a degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in Special Education. On a more personal level, teaching Special Education has a really big home in my heart. My brother was labeled as qualifying for Special Education and he had a really amazing resource teacher when he was a child and it really helped him to get to where he is today. That is my goal. I want to be that resource teacher who helps a child with special needs reach their full potential. At Nevada state college I took classes which taught me how to assess students in special education, transition students in special education, and use behavior management techniques for student in special education. I have also received a TESL Endorsement and have earned an associates degree in Secondary Education, which gave me skills to work with older students as well. While at Nevada State College, I student taught for 16 weeks. Eight weeks were spent in a resource room where I gave students assessments to check their developmental and cognitive levels of learning, I learned how to and did input information into the Encore program, worked with general education teachers to help their students in the special education program succeed within an inclusive classroom setting, and lesson planned for a resource room environment. The other eight weeks were spent in a general education classroom setting, where I was able to work with a full classroom of students, lesson plan for the students, and participate in staff and grade level meetings. I have worked as a Substitute Teacher for two years which has helped me to develop great classroom management skills, it has taught me to work with children, and it has taught me how to work with parents to develop their childs skills. I also speak, read, and write fluently in Spanish. My previous experience before working as a Substitute Teacher was working in a law office as a paralegal. While there, I had to work with clients one on one which helped me to develop good people skills and conversational skills. I would, again, like to thank you for taking the time to read this letter. Working for the Clark County School District would be an amazing experience because of the commitment to parent involvement and the eagerness to make school and exciting and safe place for students to learn. I would enjoy the opportunity to interview with you, so please feel free to contact me. Sincerely, Daphne Sauceda
