Writers Workshop: After conferences we will concentrate on many mini lessons in our writers workshop. We will continue to learn and practice to stretch out our words using our mini slinkys or word stretchers as we call them in class. Practice having your child write by stating and sounding out each sound in a word. Remember spelling is not essential when we are writing in writers Workshop (popcorn words should be spelled correctly) The key is getting your child to write. We will begin Concept Books- which are easy books that you might often use with a small toddler. They will focus on one concept and one word per page along with an illustration. These will allow your cd to practice stretching out words and writing them. Math
We will work on comparing numbers. We will learn to identify dot cards (similar to dice) learning that the dots represent a number. We will use these cards to compare more than, less than and equal numbers.

Books we are Reading: I Know An Old Lady, Non-fiction books about Spiders and Insects

More for this week:

Homework is due Wednesday the 31st of October! During the month of October we do not celebrate Halloween at BPE, however in Kindergarten we do activities based around the theme Spiders and Insects and Fall! If you sent in a change of clothes for your child you need to send in a new one in a bag. The weather has changed and the shorts and T-shirts for emergency changes are probably not appropriate for the new weather for Fall and approaching winter. Please send in a new change of clothes with your child so your child can take their summer clothes back home. Also be sure your child is wearing a jacket and or coat each day and knows how to fasten it..Practice Practice!! Recess will continue as long as it is dry outdoors.

Reminders !
This Friday November 2nd, we will have a Miss Spider Tea Party!! We are learning a lot about Spiders and Insects and will celebrate with treats and pretend tea (apple juice) that will be poured from a teapot. We will make a fun spider snack and enjoy some Fun!!! This week we will also make some fun pumpkin crafts and a special spider headband!

I am asking that each child bring in $1.00 to help with the cost of the treats and supplies I will be buying for this week. If you can send in $1.00 with your child as soon as possible it would be greatly appreciated. Please mark the envelope or baggie Spider Tea Party
